Ben did not impress Summer the first time they met. She sized him up and froze him out. She has good reason to be wary of charmers, and Ben is nothing if not charming. But he is determined to get Summer to see the real Ben, and he slowly chips away at her resistance. They are very sweet together and overcome several challenges.
I didn’t want to leave Marbella Island! Why did I have to finish the book!? ;)
I loved everything about Ben. His goofiness had me cracking up the entire book. He was all sunshine to Summers grumpy. I couldn’t get enough and his persistence and patience was so sweet. Summer was so prickly and he took that in stride and I loved that about him.
The scenery is something I would totally love to see in person. I could imagine everything by the way it was written. I loved the supporting characters with all my heart and can’t wait to get to their stories. This book was one I couldn’t put down at all! Pick it up, you won’t be sorry.
Witty dialogue and lovable characters will get me every time and this book is no exception to that rule! She's in hiding while striving to achieve her dreams and he is just living life in the moment. They are complete opposites and she doesn't even like him....or does she! A great rom com to have you giggling for hours as you watch them go from enemies to friends to maybe more, unless her past catches up and smashes their hopes before they can really fly! I also love a good spin off and this book is the second in a series that spins off from this author's "Shipped" series. You don't have to read that series or even the first book in this series in order to enjoy the book, but you would be absolutely, positively missing out as characters and places from the Shipped series are mentioned in this book and the entertainment alone is worth its weight in gold. This author really knows how to write with wit, a bit of snark, a lot of fun and a bit of angst to make the story the complete package! I can't wait to go back and snag the first book in the series and any new ones that come up! If you haven't put this author on your must-read list, well...you really must do so!
Super cute story! It’s an enemies to lovers, dual pov rom com. There were parts that were a bit cheesy but overall a great book. The banter between the characters was absolutely hilarious. Really enjoyed reading this one!
Perfect close door romance ! Ideal for fans of Sarah Adams and Christian Lauren! Cute romcom for when you need a little fluff in your life
I feel like this was the story of an “underdog” that you just can’t help but love. I kept finding myself rooting for Ben and wanting to yell at Summer to just give him a chance. But the sweet nature of their story and how it builds made the book a wonderful read where you ultimately end up rooting for #TeamBummer and appreciating the journey they took to get there. Also, Phyllis needs her own book 🤣
This book is the second in the series but I feel like it can easily be read as a stand alone book. This is a dual pov, clean romance.
I love the true chase behind Ben’s and Summer’s relationship. They are the perfect example of the saying there is a fine line between love and hate. Summer’s strong personality makes her extremely admirable but was also almost her downfall at missing out on love. Ben, being ever the flirt he is, finally sees that his carefree personality isn’t always the best approach and there are times when he needs to slow down and be serious. This story also begins to introduce other future books so I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
This was so cute!
First though, can we talk about the 80s teen movie vibe? The cover alone reminds me of an L.A. Gear ad.
It took me a little while to warm up to both of the main characters but once I did, I couldn't put the book down.
I know there is an audience out here who will absolutely love this and maybe I just wasn’t in the mood, but I struggled a lot with the first half of this book. I honestly considered DNF’ing it at 25%. I struggle with stubborn characters, so the FMC was a challenge for me until she started opening up. My biggest issue is that she (in referring to Jeremy) said “I don’t typically judge people based on their first impressions”, yet that’s exactly what she did to Ben. I couldn’t get past that for a long time. Once things went from enemies to friends, it was more doable. The story was cute and I like how the ending rounds out. I also appreciated that there was no miscommunication trope and no internal threat to the relationship. I would say I’m sitting between 3-3.5 stars on this one.

This was such a cute romance! Ben has never had a problem with girls liking him, until he meets Summer. The moment he meet her he was drawn to her. Unfortunately for him, he’s gonna have to work for this one. Summer is not having his charming ways. After being hurt by a player before, she has no interest in dating anyone at the moment. Good thing Ben is persistent but not pushy.
This was such a cute book. While it is a closed door romance, there are some swoon worthy kisses. Such a great story of finding your people/ home and not giving up on your dreams. I adored these characters on Marabella Island and I can’t wait to read about the rest of them!
While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. This book launches on Nov 13, 2023 so be sure to add to your TBR list!
Thank you to NetGalley for my arc copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I really loved the characters in this book. They made it easy to read, I don't often read romance books but I loved this one.
The second book in a new series (although a spinoff from the Getting Shipped series) follows Summer and Ben as they get to know each other while working at their resort jobs.
Ben didn’t make the best first impression with Summer, so he’s working hard to turn things around. Summer isn’t sure she even wants to be in a relationship, and she has some secrets she’s keeping to protect herself.
Cute closed-door romcom. Can be read as a stand-alone. Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for A Fish Out of Water to come out November 13, 2023.
So in the mood to acquire a nice light romance we’re our mains go from enemies to lovers and A Fish Out of Water fit the bill perfectly. I also loved the Hollywood aspect as well! I thought it had such a unique premise and I really enjoyed it. I know our readers will as well!
I don’t think I’ve found a book that I don’t like by Savannah Scott! I really loved Summer and Ben. The reverse grumpy/sunshine troupe is one of my favorites and I loved Ben as a golden retriever type! I think the story was so well written and the communication between the main characters was so good. I really hope we see more of the side characters soon 🩷
