This is a lovely story which tells the traditional story of the birth of Jesus but from the point of view of a swallow. This is such a unique take on a well-known story so such a good, imaginative take on it. It's lovely and festive. I'm looking forward to reading this again and again with my children during the festive season.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is the story of Jesus's birth and a swallow (bird) was also present in the barn.
A beautiful new Christmas story for young readers. I really enjoyed reading this new view of the traditional Christmas story with my children.
This is the Nativity story but from the perspective of a little swallow whose home is the stable where Jesus was born. It does tell the more religious side of Christmas.
It is a simplified version of the classic story from a different point of view.
It is a beautiful picture book which will keep younger children engaged. The repetition will help children remember the words.
A Beautiful Christmas picture book that would make the perfect gift or addition to any library. I loved it.
I loved this Children's Nativity story from the perspective of a little swallow who lives in the stable where Jesus was born. For those parents wanting to teach their children the story of the the nativity, Jesus's birth and the religious side of Christmas, rather than the more commercial Santa side like most Christmas books, I think this book is perfect! The illustrations are beautiful and will keep younger children engaged, as will the repetition of ideas, the patterns in the writing that I really loved.
My family isn't religious but we still really enjoyed this sweet story. We also really loved all of the pictures. They're were so pretty
This children's book tells the story of Jesus's birth, from the point of view of a bird. It's rather simple to read but it's still cute. The illustrations are nice, too.
The story of the swallow who witnesses what happens in the story we know of Jesus' birth is a different perspective with the same peaceful grace.
This wonderfully simplified story is delightfully illustrated with fantastic colors by Estelle Corke!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age, great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your public library!
I requested and received a temporary electronic copy on Adobe Digital Editions from SPCK Children's, Lion Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
What a beautifully illustrated Christmas book!
This children’s book The Christmas Swallow tells the story of Jesus’s birth - from Mary and Joseph’s arrival in the stable, to the shepherds’ visit from the angel, to the three wise men’s visit. I liked the story telling for the most part. There were a couple of weird moments, such as when the star burst into the sky for the wise men and the presentation of the gifts.
The wise men present their gifts: “mine is as pure as the first fall of snow. GOLD. Mine is as sweet as a rose in bloom. FRANKINCENSE! Mine is a balm for anointing the dead. MYRRH.”
I liked that the first two gifts were wintery, Christmas-y references but the third one was super creepy.
Overall, this was a nice book!
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
The Christmas Swallow is a beautiful informative picture book for children with a different view of the very first Christmas. The narrative is from the eyes of a swallow who witnesses the birth of Jesus and the events surrounding that event. There's so much to see on each page, and I loved viewing all the scenes as the story unfolds. I'm always drawn to books with birds and nature on the cover and found this one very beautifully illustrated and written. A lovely story for bedtime.
This was a different view of the Christmas story. From the perspective of a bird. Good for little ones.
This was a lovely book that will be read again every Christmas eve in my family. With or without children as it brings the story to light in a most wonderful way. A birds eye view telling the story of Jesus being born
The story of Nativity from a swallow's eyes, how he witness the story of a newborn king. Beautifully illustrated, this story reminds us once again His birth and his early life. And how God provided through the Magi by sending Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh,
I’m excited for a new title to add to my personal Christmas collection. This is not one I’d buy for my classroom, but one that I’d like for my children at home. It had beautiful illustrations to accompany the Christmas story.
A lovely and brightly colored picture book for youngsters! It tells the story of the very first Christmas from the point of view of a swallow that sits in high places and silently watches the story unfold. The illustrations are delightful. I love looking at all the animals in each scene to see what each creature is doing. Perfect for a Christmas read aloud with your kids.
What a great idea, to use a cute swallow to follow and explain the religious Christmas story.
I absolutely loved it and the illustrations were cute, colourful and expressive too, so a great addition to the book for the very young children listening to the story. One my grandchildren and I will enjoy for many years to come.
This book is absolutely beautifully illustrated! This book tells the story of Jesus’s birth through the eyes of a sparrow that flies through each scene. This is such a fun book. The story is simplistic enough for younger kids to understand it. But it is also beautiful enough for the adult reading the story to enjoy.
Amazing imagery and drawings. There is a mix of modernity and much-needed diversity in the pictures that don't clash but add to the adoration of the tale. The excitement of the Christmas story is told through bold type, changing letter size and italics - it is all done so beautifully. Children will love the swallow and its role in singing the song of Jesus.
I received a free copy of, The Christmas Swallow, by Ben Harris, Estelle Corke, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a sweet simple story about the birth of Jesus, and the three wise men journey to Jesus, and meeting him, from the eyes of a sparrow.
