I will always love a heist book, so I knew before going in that this would be an instant favorite. I loved the high-stakes shenanigans - that's what made it so fun! A great read for summer, and one I'm excited to add to my shelves. Will definitely be recommending to my local library as well!
HEIRESS TAKES ALL is a YA mystery about a teenager planning a heist at her father’s wedding. Olivia Owen’s father cheated on her mother, kicked them out, and removed Olivia from his inheritance. She wants revenge, and has the perfect plan to get rich…
I loved the premise! There is an awesome cast of characters that we are introduced to, who each play an important role in Olivia’s heist. Things get tricky when a nosy wedding guest starts meddling, but it led to some funny dynamics between the characters.
HEIRESS TAKES ALL takes readers on such a fun adventure full of twists. I was able to picture the story play out in my mind and would love to see this on the big screen 📺
Emily and Austin are some of my favs. I absolutely love reading anything & everything they write! I’ll even be dabbling in fantasy when their next book, THIS WILL BE FUN (written with Bridget Morrissey under the pen name E.B. Asher) comes out in September 🗡️
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this novel! This duo is one of my favorites to read from and it’s no simple task going from romance to muster and heists, but they did it tremendously. It was action packed and fast paced which kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Thanks again and I can’t wait to see what else this writing duo has in store for us readers in the future.
If you know going in that this one is going to be way over the top and have events that are way too unbelievable or convenient to be realistic, then you can get some enjoyment out of this book. The best part about it is the characters. I really liked her mis-matched crew and the relationships they develop throughout. It is a quick and easy thriller and the author does put in a lot of road blocks to the heist that make you curious to see how things will come together in the end. Ultimately though there were just too many questions I had about the plot that made it hard to buy into. If you like heist stories this one is worth checking out, but beyond that you can probably skip it.
I'm a big fan of heists and also of Wibbroka books, but this was not my favorite of either. We follow a group of teenagers who don't really know each other as they attempt to wire millions out of our MC's father's accounts, but it fell a little flat for me. We don't see any of the planning and only flashbacks of the recruitment of each team member, so I really didn't feel invested in any of the characters or the heist itself. There was a romance that just seemed like a throw-in because there "had" to be a romance, not because it added anything to the story. I think this could've benefited from having some background; instead we spent 350 pages on the actual heist and I got so bored because it just drug on since there's only so many interesting things that can happen in the time span of a wedding! I think this could be fun for some readers, but it didn't steal any favorite spots on my list.
Socialite and heiress Olivia has been all but disowned by her wealthy father as he moves on with his new wife. However, she has a plan for revenge - she's going to use the distraction of his wedding to rob him of millions.
This was a cute, easy read. Some parts of the heist were weak or implausible, but overall the vibe was fun. I did rather enjoy the ending in particular, and the element of found family.
Thank you to the publisher for providing a review copy.
Rating: 3/5 stars
In "Heiress Takes All" by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka, readers are drawn into a clever and entertaining tale of revenge and redemption. The story follows seventeen-year-old Olivia Owens as she navigates the complexities of family betrayal and the pursuit of justice.
The authors skillfully weave together a plot filled with twists and turns, keeping readers guessing until the very end. Olivia's plan for revenge is both daring and intricate, and the execution of her mid-nuptial heist is filled with suspense and unexpected obstacles. The inclusion of an eclectic crew of high school students and a former teacher adds depth to the story, providing a diverse cast of characters with their own unique motivations and personalities.
Despite its entertaining premise, "Heiress Takes All" occasionally struggles to maintain its momentum, with certain plot points feeling contrived or overly convenient. Additionally, some of the characters lack depth, coming across as stereotypes rather than fully realized individuals.
Overall, "Heiress Takes All" is a fun and engaging read, perfect for fans of heist novels and young adult fiction. While it may not reach the heights of its genre counterparts, it offers plenty of entertainment and excitement for readers looking for a lighthearted adventure.
A big thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an advanced copy to review.
This was such a fun read. You do have to suspend some disbelief that a bunch of high school kids could hack a billionaire. Just go with it! The intensity of the heist kept me turning the page, and the opulence of the setting was fun and extravagant. The roadblocks throughout the way were pretty comical I never saw the plot twist at the end coming. I enjoyed the family drama and the secondary characters. The reason this didn't pass 4 stars for me is that I felt like it was a little long for the plot.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review. This book releases 6/4!
This book was a little eclectic for my taste. A lot of things thrown in the story line but none done spectaculary well. Still mildly entertaining.
I was really excited to read this book and have several of their books on my tbr. Unfortunately, this was a big dnf for me. I tried multiple times to pick this up and could not get into it. Hopefully this isn't a foreshadowing of what I will think of their other books.
I’m a big fan of heist stories anyway, so the premise got my attention. It was a funny, entertaining quick read. Both hilarious and heartfelt, with a cute romance and an engaging cast of characters, this was an excellent heist story. I am hoping for more from these characters.
I found this book interesting in its own way. The publisher def got it right when they said its like oceans 11 mixed with the inheritance games. Maybe also add a little soap opera and add a little modern family and it was a definite slam dunk. Definitely will be reading the next book when they green light it!
This book throws you right into the story and leaves you eager to try and piece together exactly what is happening. The backstory is pieced together rather quickly making it easy to connect with each of the characters. The problem becomes that as time goes on and the situation becomes more complicated the story begins to slow down. The story starts to fill in on narratives for each of the characters as very tense moments play out. It sort of pulls you out of the scene and makes it a frustrating read. Normally I’m all for a cute romance but this one felt bland and unnecessary. The book has a decent ending but loses the intrigue and intensity around 75% through the book. 3.5 stars because that beginning was everything.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
What. A. Fun. Read!! Twists and turns and humour, I thoroughly enjoyed this YA heist! Definitely not something I'm normally drawn to but I loved the cast of characters and how they all intertwined with one another.
This book started out on a high note and slowly went downhill. It didn't end horribly so I'm still giving 3.5 stars, but I'd hoped for more.
Maybe I should have tempered my expectations. That was probably my first mistake. But after watching movies like Ocean's Eight and what not, my heist expectations are high. So the fact that this heist wasn't stealing something quite as valuable as I expected, I was a bit disappointed.
Also, I think it's best to go into this remembering that *nearly* everyone in the crew is a teenager. There were points where Olivia would say confidential heist things out loud or do other dumb things that felt like rookie mistakes and it was frustrating. Then I'd have to remind myself that this was a heist for teenagers, not some polished Ocean's Eleven heist. Plus, I think there was room for error and improvement because it seems like they're setting this book up for a series.
I did want more revenge out of this book, but fine. I'll live.
Overall, I had a good time reading this book which I can never be mad about. I think some things were frustrating or annoying, but it was generally a fun book.
Heiress Takes All by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka is a heist novel that follows Olivia, a seventeen year old with a grudge against her father. Determined to get her revenge, she pulls together an eclectic group to steal her father’s fortune while he is distracted getting married. What could go wrong?
I liked this novel, I didn’t love it. I am a huge fan of heist stories. It’s one of my favorite tropes but I never felt connected to the characters or felt like the stakes were high enough. There is a lot of inner monologue with the main character that bogs the pace down quite a bit and some of the writing was a little too over the top for me. But I still got through the book and I know there will be a big audience for this when it releases. If I would have read this as a teenager, I would have been obsessed.
I would recommend this to anyone who really enjoyed the entire Inheritance Games series. Just go in knowing that this feels very young adult. There are some young adult books that I think can be enjoyed by older readers but this is one that I think will mostly be enjoyed by just teen readers.
As far as my personal enjoyment, this would probably a 2.5 star but I’m rounding it up to a three because I know some of that is just a me thing. This is a book I would buy for my daughter so there isn’t anything problematic. It just wasn’t great for me.
Completely fast paced (which I love). I was so excited to get approved for this arc, I’ve been anticipating this book for awhile. This is a heist novel immersed in family drama. I really liked the open ending as well.
I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
I love a good heist novel, but this was not that. The pacing is painful, but I don't hate the characters...mostly. the over/under is that, by tomorrow, I'll forget having read this.
“Heiress Takes All” is a fun, fast-paced story of a girl seeking revenge on her wealthy father. Our main girl has assembled a crew to break into her father’s safe on his wedding day to wife #3. I enjoyed the pacing of the story and the eccentric family dynamics. Who doesn’t love a heist story?
