Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy. This was again another sweet book by this author. I just want to go to Chatham. I like how her previous characters subtly reappear in her next books, but they’re definitely not needed to be read in order.
If Pamela Kelley writes it, I will read it. This book is charming and the perfect book to be enjoyed poolside. Good character development and an enjoyable plot.
The Seaside Sisters by Pamela Kelley is a heartwarming and beautifully written novel about second chances, family bonds, and self-discovery. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Cape Cod, the story follows two sisters, Hannah and Sara, as they navigate life’s challenges and find unexpected paths to healing.
Hannah, a bestselling author struggling with writer's block after personal losses, retreats to her late aunt’s oceanfront home in Chatham for the summer in hopes of reigniting her creativity. Meanwhile, Sara, once a passionate librarian, is overwhelmed by family responsibilities and a stagnant marriage. As the sisters spend time together, they reconnect not only with each other but with the life they left behind—full of dreams, books, and possibility.
The novel is rich with themes of family dynamics, personal growth, and rediscovery, with the seaside setting adding a refreshing, calming vibe to the story. Romance also plays a role, particularly in the form of Spencer, a former high school acquaintance turned gruff yet intriguing love interest.
With relatable characters, charming beach-town atmosphere, and an uplifting narrative, The Seaside Sisters is perfect for fans of women’s fiction. It’s a delightful summer read that will leave readers feeling both inspired and enchanted, much like the ocean breeze it so vividly portrays.
This was an enjoyable beach read about 2 sisters reconnecting after their mother’s death. One is a struggling author and the other a struggling mother. I enjoyed the dynamics between them and look forward to more books by this author.
This was my first book by the author, Mary K Andrews, and she did not disappoint, it makes a perfect beachy/summer read. Summers at the Saint captivated my attention from start to finish. The narrative of this story was a mixture of murder mystery, rich family drama, and a hint of romance. It is told in different point of views and a few flashbacks that pieces the plot together in a profound way. I did not expect the turns thrown at me in this book, Mary knows how to spin a tale. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this advanced reader copy.
5 stars. Loved the book; it's the second one that I have read by this author and she is on her way to becoming a favorite. Anxious to read The Bookshop by the Bay since I just found out it is companion novel. Definitely , do not need to read the other one first; this one stands alone. Very sweet story of the two sisters with a little romance.
This is a sedate women's fiction about an author who is struggling with writer's block and goes back to her small oceanside home town for the summer, where her sister, aunt and their families live. Both her sister and aunt are having issues with their husbands, while she, after breaking off a two year relationship, has no interest at all in romance. As her creative juices start flowing again, she also meets two men who might turn into romantic interests, but wise advice from her aunt's neighbor, lets her sit back and see how both relationships go. Not an exciting story, but I like the characters so much that I didn't like putting the book down. I found the information about what goes into publishing a book after the author finishes writing it, very interesting.
Tropes: small town, second chances, family issues.
I read a gifted advanced readers's copy from NetGalley. com. This is my honest, voluntary and unbiased review.
This was my first novel by this author and I definitely enjoyed it! An excellent beach read with great characters that were relatable and well developed! I loved the relationship between the sisters and their aunt, and without giving too much away, completely support their advice on how to handle certain husbands! Had me laughing out loud and cheering on the women! Overall, the book was a little bit of the cookie cutter, feel-good, summer beach read, BUT there were enough of those standout parts to have me coming back to another book by this author!
When Hannah tells her sister, Sara, that she just can't get a handle on her new novel, Sara recommends she come home for the summer. Home is Chatham, Cape Cod, and both sisters are in need of healing after losing their mother six months prior. Hannah stays with their beloved Aunt Maddie, who is having her own struggles. Through their renewed relationships they all find new opportunities and strength to rewrite their lives in ways that prepare them for the future. This is a love story, but not simply between lovers. The love that the sisters and their aunt share is sacred. I found this a great book to read as the heat of summer lingers into Fall.
What a fun, summer book about the lives of two sisters and their aunt. This story starts right away with Hannah, who lives in Brooklyn, who is struggling to write her next book. She goes to Cape Cod to stay with her aunt. Her sister, Sara, lives on Cape Cod too. The novel switches points of view between the 3 as we see the various struggles and triumphs they go through. Overall, a cute, fast read. I have actually never read a book by Pamela Kelley before, but I would read another by her.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press,Pamela Kelley, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Months after losing her mother to cancer, Hannah, a new rom-com author starts getting panic attacks. So Hannah decides to go spend the summer at her beachy childhood town, to reflect and finish her next book.
It's a sweet story about new friends, family, neighbors, going through life's passages and struggles to find happiness. Enjoy whale watching, cookouts, seafood, book writing club, and gorgeous summer days and events shared by two sisters and their aunt in this cozy cape town.
I love Pamela M. Kelley’s Cape Cod books, and not just because I recognize some of the places mentioned (like the Kream & Kone) from my childhood trips to the area. And I’m partial to books about writers and bookstores, so of course, I enjoyed this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an early copy.
I enjoyed this story of 2 sisters, one visiting, and the other living this a lovely seaside town that I would love to visit someday. The description and character development were very good. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a quick, easy, but delightful read.
The Seaside Sisters by Pamela M Kelly is a sweet, touching and romantic novel that is very well written. The story just jumps off the page and feels like you are living the story along with Hannah and Sarah. The characters are wonderful, realistic and charming. And the setting of this book is so well described that I wanted to be there while reading.
This book followers author Hannah who has recently experienced some personal losses which impact her ability to write. She ends up taking a trip to her aunt's seaside home in the same town as her stay at home mom sister Sarah. Together Hannah and Sarah reconnect with one another, with old friends and find a way to get Sarah back into the workforce. Hannah rekindles with an old flame and romance buds.
I liked this a lot more than I thought i would!
This was a feel-good summer read!
One thing I liked was that it looked at 3 different relationships and how each woman dealt with the difficulties they faced.
I also loved that it was a family story. It was based on 2 sisters and their aunt.
I loved the setting of the story also. It really makes me want to move to a beach town and live by the ocean.
This was such a good book and I definitely recommend it!
I feel bad giving this 2 stars but I honestly can’t find a single redeeming quality. Had this not been an ARC, it would have been in the DNF pile within the first 100 pages. I tried to like this one…I really did but I got to the point where I just wanted it to be over. The last 50 pages were skimmed. Absolutely nothing happened in this book…NOTHING!! The pace was so slow and there was no conflict, no surprises, no excitement, no character development. There were a lot of details about everyday things. Every meal was a detailed description of what they ate and how it was prepared. Was this a romance novel or a cookbook? I really wasn’t sure. I kept waiting for something to happen but it never did. The main character, Hannah, made her way to Chatham in an attempt to overcome her writer's block. I feel like that is exactly what this book was…an attempt to overcome writer’s block and it failed miserably. The entire storyline felt mundane and repetitive.
Then there were the characters. I am not even sure that two-dimensional is an accurate description. They had zero personality and felt very superficial. There was no character connection and their relationships were flat and dry. This was supposed to be a romance and I felt zero chemistry and almost all of the men are portrayed in a very negative way. The title is Seaside Sisters so I really expected to explore the relationship with Hannah and Sarah but not only was there interaction limited but then the author threw in an elderly aunt and her relationship problems. There was too much going on and nothing at all at the same time. I just felt like there was no story here. They were just words on a page that meant absolutely nothing to me. Although I couldn’t wait for it to be over, the ending felt abrupt and rushed. But, honestly, I really don’t know how you would bring a story about nothing to an end. I have not read anything else by this author and I am not sure that I will. I was very disappointed.
I have never before read a book by Pamela Kelley but I know now that I will find myself reaching for her books as they will be a great summer time read! Her writing style is beautiful; the setting/location you can do no wrong!
I love the characters, the sisters were quite the pair, and as I already said the books location was perfect. Overall the book was enjoyable and quick read.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my honest review.
What a perfect summer read! I really enjoyed this book and all the beachy, summer vibes. The setting (Chatham, MA) was just dreamy. I also loved Hannah, Sara, and Aunt Maddie. Reading the book made me want to spend my summers there with them, drinking coffee and working at the bookstore. I definitely wanted more romance between Hannah and Spencer--but also loved the focus on sisters and family. A great read!
Pamela Kelley is one of my favorite feel-good authors. She has real characters with real problems and I love the way they work through them. This was a perfect summer read.
If you're looking for a book that feels like a warm hug, The Seaside Sisters is the book for you. The book follows three family members as they navigate the loss of their mother and sister. Hannah, a published author who is struggling to write her second book, decides to return to her hometown of Chatham MA and stay with her aunt in hopes her creativity would return. Her sister Sara, a busy mom, decides it's time to put herself first and aims to find herself within her marriage.
This book was such a fun, quick read. I enjoyed every minute with it and can't wait to read more by Pamela Kelley!
