Comfortable and cozy beach read about two sisters figuring it out in Chatham Cape Cod. Hannah an author with writers block and Sara a mother of four sons with a strained marriage spend a summer together after the loss of their mother. There is some romance here and women empowerment but nothing outrageous. These people are living their lives in an idyllic setting, quietly solving their problems. If you enjoy a comfy romance this is for you. Thank you Netgalley and St Martins Press.
The Seaside Sisters by Pamela M. Kelley
Thanks, NetGalley for the ARC of The Seaside Sisters by Pamela Kelley. The main character, Hannah has gone home to Chatham for the summer. She is a writer and needs some inspiration to keep writing her book. She spends time doing things she enjoys and catching up with her family and friends. A nice vacation read. She is staying with her aunt Maddie, her mom's sister as Hannah's mom recently passed away and she's not ready to stay in her mom's house. The setting was great. The characters were all likeable. I would absolutely read more novels by this author. Pamela M. Kelley is an amazing writer, well worth a reader's time spent reading her books. Kudos to Pamela M. Kelley!
Thank you to St Martins Press & NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was 3.5 ⭐️ for me.
I am a longtime fan of Pamela Kelly’s books, because they are such comfort reads. The Seaside Sisters was great, but it wasn’t my favorite of hers. I feel like the romance aspect came into the story too late (I’m talking not until 80% into the story) and some of the situations that happened in the book just felt pretty unrealistic. I would have liked to see more of Hanna & her sister Sara over the summer, and their relationship be more of the main focus since the book is called The Seaside Sisters.
One thing Pamela always does extremely well in her books is setting the story. I spend a lot of time in Chatham in the summers, so it was so fun to read about it in a book. She does a great job of explaining the setting in such vivid detail, it’s like being there! It was also so fun to see cameos from the characters in The Bookshop by the Bay.
Overall, I would still recommend this book because it was a quick & easy read that will be the perfect addition to a beach or pool bag this summer!
This is another amazing novel by Pamela. This was definitely a very light, beach friendly read. I read this novel courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher St. Martin’s and also on audiobook through Macmillan audio.
This novel focuses on Hannah, her sister Sara and their aunt Maddie. Hannah and Sara have recently lost their mother and Hannah is dealing with writers block and stress. After a scare of her health she goes to visit her aunt Maddie in Chatham, a beautiful beach town.
Sara, a mother of boys and a wife to a husband who’s not the most appreciative or present is stressed and feels as if her marriage is crumbling. She decides after hitting a breaking point to take a small week vacation to Chatham.
Over the course of this summer Hannah and Sara learn what they want for themselves, how to choose putting their happiness first and ultimately Hannah realizes where she wants to call home.
I highly recommend this novel for anyone who is a fan of Women’s lit, and those who like a good easy read with a HEA!
The Seaside Sisters is a beautiful summer beach/poolside read! It's a fun and quick read that you can dip in and out of while enjoying the beach, lake, pool, or wherever you prefer reading. You pick right back up without feeling like you left. You will feel right at home with Hannah, Sara, and Aunt Maddie in Chatham. You will fall in love with the town, the friends you meet along the way, even Lady and Tramp, and you'll miss them as the book comes to a close.
This is the best kind of read on long and hot summer days when you want to take a break from reality. All around this book is a great read to enjoy this summer with a glass of wine, coffee, a big glass of sweet tea, or a beverage of your choice.
Thank you, Netgalley and St. Martin's Griffin, for this ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
Sarah and Hannah are sisters whose lives are both in mini ruts. Sarah is married with 4 boys, snd feels taken for granted in her marriage. Hannah is an author who is suffering from writers block in Brooklyn. Her aunts suggestion? Come back home to their cozy, costal town, and stay with her, and see if the words come. Not surprisingly, there’s a love interest for Hannah, and Sarah takes a stand for herself.
While the characters were well developed and very likable, I think I expected a little more fireworks in The Seaside Sisters. While the ending was absolutely heartwarming, it was very romcom predictable. The sisters did interact, but a lot of the time wasn’t spent on the beach together - so I guess I was thrown off by the name a bit.
Overall, this was a cute summer love story that would be an easy poolside read this summer!
I received an ARC via #NetGalley for review!
Love how the story grabs a hold of you and makes you want to keep reading. Chatham has the feel of a small town, yet is also exclusive for the wealthy. From the beginning when Hannah and Spencer remeet, their friendship develops. Lots of side stories happening with each character. Who wouldn’t love to spend the summer on the Cape with family and friends! I received an Advanced Reader copy from Netgalley.
Hannah is an author who lives in Brooklyn and writes romantic comedy books. Her hometown is Chatham on Cape Cod. She is experiencing writer's block and her next book is due at the end of summer. Her mother recently died and she recently ended a 2 year romantic relationship. She's not looking for love at this time. She decides a change of scenery would help her writer's block and will spend the summer in Chatham at the oceanfront home of her aunt. Her sister, Sara, husband and 4 children also live in Chatham. Sara was a librarian but is now a full time wife and mother. She longs for a return to the world of literature and the company of others during the day.
Hannah has a great summer in Cape Cod. She makes friends, renews old friendships and begins to write again. This story follows the lives of not only Hannah, but also her sister and her aunt. The characters are so well-developed that you wish you were one of the sisters in this family. I didn't want this story to end! It is a lovely story filled with family love and connections, the life of an author, the legal profession and what makes life meaningful. Don't miss this wonderful story! A perfect summer read.
I love all of Pamela Kelley's books! They are a relaxing comfort to me in a hectic world. I love stories that take the characters back to their hometowns, families, and old loves and this book has it all. Hannah leaves Brooklyn, struggling to write her second book and retreats to her aunt's oceanfront house and to spend more time with her sister Sara who is ladden with family burdens. While Hannah tries to leave her losses in Brooklyn - an old boyfriend is suddenly available. Spending time at the ocean with family and old love is a great way to experience summer - especially for us as readers!
Much like Pamela Kelley's other works situated in Cape Cod and Nantucket, "The Seaside Sisters" offers the literary equivalent of comfort food. The familiar elements of a Pamela Kelley novel are all present—the picturesque coastal backdrop of Chatham, abundant references to delectable food and wine, and heartwarming relationships, be it friendships, family ties, or budding romances.
In the midst of a crippling bout of writer’s block, romance writer Hannah departs her Brooklyn residence to spend the summer at her aunt's home in Chatham. Here, she encounters two potential love interests and manages to overcome her creative block. Meanwhile, Hannah's sister Sara resides in Chatham with her inattentive spouse and three sons, searching for her own purpose. Their aunt navigates through personal and professional dilemmas, intertwining their narratives into a woven tapestry that culminates in a satisfying resolution for them all. Readers familiar with Kelley's prior Chatham installment, "The Bookshop by the Bay," will recognize some recurring background characters, as well as the cozy coffee shop and bookstore setting.
While the story lacks high stakes and intense conflict to propel it forward, the narrative offers a soothing retreat that beckons readers to immerse themselves in its tranquil world.
A warm thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for providing me with an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Seaside Sisters is an extremely light read about two sisters and their aunt and the trials and tribulations that each is going through in their work and love lives. I would have preferred if the novel had more depth to both the plot and the characters. All in all a very good novel to read when you are traveling. It is easy to pick up the book after not reading for several days and become engrossed. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the ARC!
The Seaside Sisters is a charming, feel-good, comforting summer read. With all of the charm of the small New England town of Chatham on island of Cape Cod, this story brims with joy, festivities, familial ties, friendship and personal growth.
Hannah is a New Yorker and best-selling author struggling with her new novel after a year of loss and heartbreak. Sara is Hannah’s married sister and a mother of four boys who is still living on the island where they grew up. Sara is trying to find a job for a little something of her own. Hannah decides that a summer in the relaxing setting of Chatham is the perfect way to refresh and spark new ideas. The perk is that she gets to spend time with her sister and her adored aunt whom she will be staying with.
Seaside Sisters is a story full of feel-good summer vibes, a touch of romance, complicated, but realistic relationship dynamics, friendships and summer-fun. The sweet, endearing relationship between the sisters is enviable and each has a unique and interesting backstory. Though the transition from friendship to romance was surprisingly fast, and one problematic relationship resolved quite quickly, the story was lovely anyway. Seaside Sisters is an easy-to-read, delightful story, perfect for long, lazy days of summer.
Pamela M. Kelley delivers what I consider a beach comfort read. Her books consistently have likable characters, usually dealing with life issues and one or more will get a romance. Her books are closed door or in this case clean. And the setting will be on Cape Cod and will include a lot of details on the wine and food. This all holds true for the Seaside Sisters.
Hannah Brewster has successfully published her first novel but is having a hard time meeting the deadlines for her second book. She lives in Brooklyn and her sister Sara suggests she come home to Cape Cod for the summer. She returns to Chatham and decides to stay at her Aunt Maddie’s beach front home. Maddie is also her book agent and the sisters are surprised to learn that she has separated from her husband. Sara is struggling herself. She loves being a wife and mom to her four sons but now wants a part time job and something for herself. When she gets a job at the local bookshop her husband is not supportive.
I found the story easy to read and enjoyed that it crossed over with some characters and settings I remember from The Bookshop by the Bay (June 2023). I enjoyed Hannah’s diligence on working on her novel and opening herself up to dating and meeting new friends. Her potential love interest is Spencer who is a local lawyer. They spend a lot of time together with various friends and at family activities. But she claims she is a city girl and he loves Chatham and so they know nothing can come from going further. Neither is wanting a fling. I wanted longing or lusting but instead there was a wall until suddenly there wasn’t. I also thought all the men in the story, except maybe Spencer, come off weak or shallow. None were swoon worthy. (3.5 Stars)
Amazing book. I had never heard of this author but the synopsis sounded cute and adorable. I would recommend it as a perfect summer read. The book follows an author who goes home to finish writing her second book and has to face some obstacles along the way with family amd former friends.
This was a nice story about 2 sisters and their aunt after a loss in their family. The story moved a little slow and wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting the book to be more of a summer romance with a lot more happening between the three women. I felt like I was reading three separate books, rather than one book involving all three of them. The book was enjoyable, just not what I expected. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a digital arc of this title.
There is comfort in its predictability. Told from 3 perspectives, this novel deals with 3 grieving women trying to move forward in their lives. You can put this down and easily pick the story up right where you left off.
This was an interesting story of two sisters and their aunt. The relationships between the three were fun to explore and I really enjoyed the aunt's character the most.
Pamela Kelley's books are always good escapes, with most set on the shore somewhere in Massachusetts. The Seaside Sisters would make a wonderful book to take along on vacation to the beach - or wherever else. It's light, nothing majorly traumatic happens, which is good when you're reading a beach read, and the main characters are all likeable.
Pick this up and enjoy a quick escape to the seaside.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC at my request.
I enjoyed the story , love , loss and new beginnings . The characters were amazing with their own stories to tell. Kept me intrigued and engaged .
This is a sweet story of romance. I enjoyed reading about Hannah, an author, and her method of writing. Pairing that with a small, seaside town is just perfection!
I honestly did not fall in love with this book like I hoped that I would. I found it to be very slow and very dry. It honestly had great potential. All three main woman go through a big period of growth and discovery which normally I truly enjoy. Sadly I just found myself not interested in what was happening overall in their lives. I am glad that each woman was able to find what made them most happy in life, but the journey to get there just didn’t draw me in like I hoped that it would.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy.
