Add this to your audiobook TBR! It comes out June 3. ☀️🏝️🌊👙📚I had both the book as well as the audiobook, but had a lot of laundry, vacuuming, and things to do yesterday- so the audiobook it was.
Such a sweet beach read! Hannah has an anxiety attack, and is overwhelmed from life lately. She is trying to write her second novel, and having a harder time than she did with her first. Her mom passed away six months ago, and so when she calls her sister Sara, Hannah heads back to her home on Cape Cod. Her Aunt has her stay with her at her house to rest, and refocus. Sara, her sister, has four kids, a fizzling marriage, and is trying to find a part time job. It ends up being the summer both sisters need to heal and to spend time together. There’s some love, some healing, and some sweet sister moments in this book I really enjoyed. Thank you @netgalley @pamelamkelley @stmartinspress for this advance copy.
As with Pamela Kelley’s other books set on Cape Cod and Nantucket, The Seaside Sisters is the reading equivalent of comfort food. It has all the hallmarks of a Pamela Kelley book—the coastal setting in Chatham, lots of mentions of food and wine, and cozy relationships whether they be with friends, family members, or something more romantic.
When hit with a crushing case of writer’s block, romance writer Hannah leaves her Brooklyn apartment to spend the summer at her aunt’s house in Chatham, where she meets two potential love interests (and yes, overcomes her writer’s block). Hannah’s sister, Sara, lives in Chatham with her inattentive husband and their three boys and is in search of something to call her own. Their aunt is currently going through her own marital strife and professional crossroads, and the three stories intertwine in a braided narrative that results in a happy ending for them all. Fans of Kelley’s previous Chatham book, The Bookshop by the Bay, will recognize some of the background characters as well as the coffee shop and bookstore.
The stakes are low and there is no real conflict to drive the story forward, but I still found myself wanting to curl up into this pleasant escape.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
After the loss of their mother Hannah and her sister are struggling. Hannah is experiencing severe writers block and feeling homesick so she decides to head home to Cape Cod and get some much needed rest and hopefully inspiration. Her sister Sarah is a stay at home mom but desperately missing being in the workforce and wanting something that gets her out of her routine of grocery shopping, cleaning, and driving her boys around to their activities. Her husband is busy with a demanding career but doesn’t seem to value all that Sarah does for everyone.
The sisters are each on a journey to discover a new path in their lives while leaning to live in a life that doesn’t include their mother. Hannah takes the summer writing and making new friendships she’ll discover she can’t live without. Sarah will accept a new job that opens her eyes to troubles in her marriage and thoughts of a future she hadn’t considered. Being a mom and wife are her priorities but she didn’t realise how much she’d put her own desires on the back burner. The summer in Chatham will change the lives of both Hannah and Sarah.
A cute light beach read. I enjoyed the story and especially liked the references to characters from her previous book.
What a treat to read an ARC by Pamela Kelley. It felt like you were walking the streets of Chatham with the main characters. I hope there’s a sequel. The character development was great and it was nice having characters from other books make an appearance. Highly recommend for a quick beach read.
Hannah is a writer living in New York and has hit a writer's block. Her home town is Chatham, Cape Cod where her sister, Sara and Aunt Maddie live. Hannah goes to Chatham for the summer and finds not only is her writer's block cured but love is waiting. OK, it's not as straight forward as just returning to her home town. Her mother recently died, her sister is being taken for granted by her husband and there is an old high school guy who just might turn out to be something more than a grump. Beautiful homes, great food and cute main street shopping are described in this story as well. It is a perfect beach read.
This was unfortunately not my cup of tea.
This story follows a few different characters (all in third person). Hannah lives in Brooklyn; she’s grieving her mother and struggling to complete her second novel. She decides to spend the summer in her hometown with her Aunt Maddie (who’s perspective is also shown, as well as Hannah’s older sister, Sara).
I’m left a little confused about what the point of the story was. I feel like nothing ever really happened. The pacing felt off to me and the storylines underdeveloped. The use of descriptions were nice, but an entire scene would start and be wrapped up within the span of one paragraph. It didn’t work for me.
I was not able to connect to any of the characters or the storyline. There were tons of characters with pretty small, insignificant roles and I found it difficult to keep track of everyone. There was a minor romantic plot; I felt zero chemistry between these characters. There were a few minor conflicts sprinkled throughout, which I felt could have been better explored. All of the conflicts were resolved way too easily in my opinion.
Overall this is a predictable, fluffy beach read. If you like something mindless and hallmark-y it may work for you! I would have liked a little more oomph and have liked others in the genre more than this.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending this eARC for review consideration! All opinions are my own.
Content warnings: grief, death of a parent, panic attack/disorder
Hannah is a best selling author who lives in Brooklyn. Her first book was a success and she is now struggling writing her second book. After he mother passes away Hannah decides that she needs a break. She decides to head to her Aunt's house in Cape Cod. Sarah, Hannah's sister who has been a full time stay at home mom is now trying to find a job and she is not having any luck. Sarah's husband doesn't want her to work but Sarah is questioning her marriage. Aunt Maddie is separated from her husband and is wondering if she is ready to be be single again. The three of these ladies work together to renew their lives and life choices. As they all start to heal, Hannah finds a new love. Sarah gets a job and makes a decision about her marriage and motherhood with her three sons. Maddie also comes to the realization she and her husband can repair their marries. Hannah writes her second book. She has been healing and because of this she has found love again, The big question is will Hannah stay or go back to Brooklyn? This is a wonderfully written book about love, loss, family, health and relationships. I have to admit that I always adore a Pamela Kelly book.
Hannah, a best selling romance author, is having a bit of writer’s block. Currently living in Brooklyn, she decides to spend the summer in her hometown of Chatham on Cape Cod, with her aunt. Her sister, husband and four children also live in Chatham. Both her aunt and sister are having some marital hiccups. While there, Hannah rekindles a friendship with attorney Spencer and also dates a best selling author whose parents live on the Cape.
If I had to describe this book in three words, it would be cozy little romance. There is no significant drama or humor in this story of nondescript characters who seem to live an idealized life. Told from different POVS, there is a lot of wine (often identified by brand) and descriptions of food (especially bagels, lobster, and brownies). Chatham is depicted in all its charm and those who have visited there will enjoy the journey back.
I am a stickler for authenticity, even in fiction, and a major activity in the book bothered me. Would attorneys really have an author who is doing research sit in on conferences with clients? Where is the attorney client confidentiality? I also noticed a bit of repetition in the narrative.
All that said, if you are looking for a nice little no effort quick beach read, this may be for you.
I am a big Pamela Kelley fan and this book did not disappoint. Hannah is a writer with one best seller under her belt. She is struggling to finish the second book in the series. She has recently broken up with a boyfriend of two years and is dealing with the loss of her mother. Her older sister Sara encourages her to come home to Chatham for the summer to work on her book. Hannah's Aunt Maddie invites her to live with her in Chatham. Aunt Maddie and Sara are both dealing with marital problems. Sara loves being a mother of four boys, but needs more in her life. Hannah renews an old friendship with Spenser who is now a lawyer. She makes several new friends over the summer including a handsome best selling author who is also spending the summer in town with family. At the end of the summer, Hannah has finished her book, but has to decide whether to stay in Chatham or return to her home in Brooklyn. This book is another feel good Pamela Kelley hit.
Hannah decides to return home to Chatham, MA for the summer after a breakup . As she cannot
handle staying at the home of her recently deceased mother, she stays with her Aunt Maddie.
Sara, Hannah's sister lives close by with her husband and four children. The three women are
dealing with different issues along with the grief. Hannah is struggling with writing her second book,
Sara wants to return to part time work now that the children are older and Maddie and her husband
are currently living apart.
Good beach read.

The Seaside Sisters is the the perfect throwaway beach read. It's very formulaic, and has the perfect beach setting, with two sisters and their aunt all involved in the book industry. They each have their little conflict to overcome. Hannah is trying to overcome writer's block and Sara and Maddie have differences that they need to overcome with their spouses. Nobody has any concerns about money, and an inordinate amount of time is spent describing the food and drinks they consume. There really isn't any conflict in the book, and if your vibe is reading books about people that have pretty much perfect lives in an ideal location, then by all means go ahead and read it. After I started this book I remembered that I had read Kelley's previous book and felt much the same way about it. The book isn't bad, but it does nothing to hold my attention, and I prefer books that are little more engaging. This book is fine for someone who needs a story that takes them to their happy place, but I found it pretty boring. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Hannah is an author who is struggling to write her 2nd book. She lives in Brooklyn and is feeling burnt out. She gets the chance to live with her aunt Maddie for the summer in Cape Cod. Her sister Sara, lives there as well and is also feeling burnt out having to raise 4 children. Sara wants to go back to work part time now that the kids are older.
I loved this book. While I felt the title Seaside Sisters is a bit misleading. I thought the author did a great job of weaving the storylines of Hannah, Sara and Maddie together. Each of the women are going through struggles in their lives and relationships. It isn't always neat and tidy.
Solid 4/5 stars
What a fantastic summer read. I really enjoyed the sisterhoood and romance. Thank you for early access to this novel.
Another quick beach read book by Pamela Kelley. This was a cute romantic story with, as always, a happy ending. I gave this book only 3 stars because there was to much description which wasn't really relevant to the story.
I thought this book was... fine. But, it didn't feel like the writing flowed very well. I couldn't connect well with the story because of that and it was a struggle to read this book, in my opinion.
This is a good summer/beach read written from the perspective of two sisters and their aunt. It's a story about life's challenges after the death of a mom/sister and new starts with new and old friends, family, struggling to find happiness in marriage and work life and making life feel right again.
I enjoyed reading about Maddie, Hannah and Sarah and felt connected to the three of them. I could feel their questions, struggles and happiness as I read. It was all realistic.
I loved how characters from previous books were included. It was nice to see how old friends were doing!
Thanks so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's for the opportunity to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next Pamela M Kelley book!
Seaside sisters is a great summer read with all of the parts that make it great. The beach, a handsome guy, a wonderful girl and the way their relationship changes over time is just awesome. Great characters to root for and I love the way the include each other in their lives. I can see more books coming from these characters. Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for the ARC.
Fun, beachy read! This book begins with Hannah, an author, struggling to write. She returns to her hometown of Chatham in Cape Cod to stay with her aunt in the hopes that she will be able to get past her writer's block. She has had difficulty with writing since her mother passed away and recently ended a relationship she was in. She is planning to spend the summer in Chatham with her aunt, Maddie and her sister, Sara. Maddie and her husband are spending some time apart. Sara is frustrated with her husband. All three of the women spend the summer working on themselves. What Hannah didn't plan for was meeting Spencer, the grandson of the couple that live next to her Aunt Maddie. Great book if you like summer romance stories.
Hannah is in a writing slump and suffering from panic attacks after the loss of her beloved mother. Her sister Sara suggests she return to her hometown staying with their Aunt Maddie for the summer. The story goes on to deal with personal issues of all three women. Not a bad beach read -it was just too predictable and lacked passion for me. I would have enjoyed it more if it focused on the sisters working through their grief. However, it is worth picking up for the setting of the lovely Cape Cod town of Chatham. My mouth practically watered at the description of the seafood. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
