The perfect summer read. This book was light and exactly what I was looking for…. Summer on the Cape. I loved the Chatham vibes and the bond between the family that had lost someone to cancer.
Definitely a feel good book full of relationships new and old, healing and thriving. I see this as a popular beach read this summer! Thanks Net Galley!
This book centers on sisters Hannah and Sara in the Cape Cod area. Hannah is staying in the area for the summer as she is writing her second book and trying to overcome some writer's block. Sara is a busy mother of 4 boys, searching for a little sense of self amid that craziness. This is a nice summer read of friends, books, and moving forward in life.
Another fabulous Pamela Kelley book. I wanted to read it in a day, but spaced it out so I could enjoy it longer. Her characters are always wonderfully developed and her storylines keep you intrigued. Now I want to move to Chatham with Hannah and Sara. 😂 The story deals with loss of their mother, marriage issues, relationships and life changes. Don’t miss this!
The Seaside Sisters is a heartwarming story of Hannah, Sara, and Aunt Maddie who are grieving the loss of their mom/sister as well as dealing with other issues in their personal lives. Hannah, who lives in NY, is suffering from writer's block on her second rom-com novel and decides to go back home to spend the summer with her aunt and sister. While back in town, her summer turned out to be so much more than she thought it would be - new friends, new writing routines, and more time with family.
There are multiple storylines in this book and they all come together very nicely. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and the description of Cape Cod. I have never been there - but I could envision the beautiful area. This story has it all - including love, friendship, and second chances. You even get a glimpse of what the characters are up to from her novel The Bookshop By the Bay.
Thank you to Pamela, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of The Seaside Sisters, I enjoyed this book.
This was a fun quick read. Pamela Kelley's books are dependable and predictable. But don't take that to mean they aren't any good! It's about the journey and Kelley's latest doesn't disappoint. I thought the characters in the story were likable and the plot lines were interesting. The only criticism I have is that sometimes the language seems a bit formal and stilted. People (such as the characters in the book) don't tend to talk the way Kelley wrote some of the conversations so that tended to draw me out of the story at times. Otherwise it was an enjoyable read.
Hannah Brewster is an author living in New York City. She grew up in Chatham on Cape Cod. Hannah’s sister, Sara, is happily married and living in Chatham. Their mother died recently. Hannah has a panic attack which is attributed to stress from working on her second book and the recent death of her mother. She decides to take go to Cape Cod for the summer to work and reconnect with her sister and aunt. Hannah works on her novel in the local coffee shop. She also connects with both old and new friends, most notably a guy she despised in high school. Hannah finds that people do change as they grow into adults. Sara, on the other hand, finds that her marriage isn’t as perfect as it seems. Tom is a workaholic and doesn’t seem to realize all that Sara does for Tom and their boys. Now that the boys are in school, Sara accepts a parttime job at the local bookstore. But Tom needs reminding that he is capable of caring for the boys and that Sara is much more than a housekeeper. Being a beach read, all ends well. The Seaside Sisters is the perfect beach read for this season.
Pamela Kelley’s The Seaside Sisters is a sweet love story about a young writer from Brooklyn who suffers from writer’s block after losing her mother and breaking up with her boyfriend. Hannah has written a successful debut romance novel and is now attempting her second book.
So Hannah goes back to her hometown of Chatham on Cape Cod to stay with her Aunt Maddie hoping the beautiful beach and ocean scenery will get her creative juices flowing again.
Aunt Maddie introduces Hannah to her neighbors Joy, also a writer, and her husband Ben and Joy invites Hannah to a weekly writer’s group which Hannah enjoys. Joy invites Hannah to dinner after the first session and they are joined by Joy’s grandson Spencer.
Spencer who was a year ahead of Hannah in high school is an attorney and since Hannah’s second novel is about an attorney, he agrees to let her shadow him at work so what she writes will be realistic.
While in Chatham, Hannah forms a closer relationship with her older sister Sara, a mother of four boys and former librarian, who tired of being at home all the time, starts working part time at a book store.
Hannah decides to do some of her writing at the coffee shop attached to the bookstore so she and Sara see each other every day when Sara eats lunch.
Sara’s husband is not initially supportive of her job because it causes him to have to do more around the house and he doesn’t really realize how much his wife does.
Aunt Maddie and Hannah encourage Sara to take a week’s vacation from her house and let her husband Tom deal with her four boys and their school and activities and cooking and laundry. So Sara stays at Aunt Maddie’s house. The experiment goes well and Tom appreciates Sara more and their marriage and family life improves.
Hannah does a successful book signing at the book shop and meets another more famous author Niall Peterson. She goes on a few dates with him but then he starts dating a supermodel.
She becomes friends with Spencer, his law partner Natalie and her boyfriend Adam, and the coffee shop owner Caitlin and greatly enjoys socializing with them all often over the summer.
Writing picks up for Hannah and before the summer is over she finishes her book. She’s thrilled and almost ready to go back to Brooklyn although she’ll miss Chatham and vows to visit more often and keep in better touch with Sara.
Before she leaves, Spencer kisses her deeply and tells her he couldn’t let her go without knowing how he really feels.
She considers staying in Chatham but continues her plan to return to Brooklyn.
Will she come back to stay?
Read this enchanting novel to find out.
This is the first book by Pamela M. Kelley that I DNF. I found the characters to be a little flat. I will continue to read this author since I'm a big fan of this author.

The Seaside Sisters is a light and easy beach read perfect for summer. Two sisters Hannah and Sara and their Aunt Maddie navigate life’s struggles after the death of Hannah and Sara’s mother.
Hannah is an author struggling with writer’s block on her second book. After a breakup and the death of her mother she returns to her hometown of Chatham, Cape Cod where her sister and Aunt Maddie live. Hannah moves in with her Aunt Maddie hoping for some inspiration for her book. Sara is feeling under appreciated as a wife and mother of four boys. Aunt Maddie also has struggles of her own.
All the women have a great relationship and support each other in their work and relationships. The characters are relatable and the seaside town is lovely. A perfect beach read about love, family, and sister relationships.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.
A great summer read about a family dealing with grief. Hannah’s sister has a great marriage from the outside that is strangling her will to live. Hannah’s neighbors are dealing with the reality of getting older and the challenges of age while Hannah’s aunt and uncle are at a crossroads in their marriage with difficult decisions to make. Great lessons learned in communication and compassion. We’ll write. And highly recommended.
Such a heartwarming book. I read it in one sitting. I just couldn’t put the book down. I loved the sisters and the aunt. The book flowed so smoothly. The writing is outstanding. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This was a lovely story that focused on two sisters and their aunt. The small cape cod town was charming, and I enjoyed the vivid descriptions - however, sometimes there were so many adjectives about meals and such that it did get a little distracting.
This would be a fun read for the beach or on vacation. Overall a nice book.
This is the story of Hannah, a writer, and her family and friends navigating life’s challenges in the Cape Cod village of Chatham, Massachusetts, her hometown. Hannah’s Mother has recently passed. She broke up with her boyfriend and she has writer’s block. Hannah decides to spend the Summer at her aunt’s home in Chatham. During the Summer, Hannah rediscovers life’s pleasures of family, friends, romance along with her writing passion. I characterize this book as a cozy romance – perfect for the beach or after a challenging workday. I enjoyed this book and recommend to all who enjoy a cozy romance.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for an early read for a fair and honest review.
What a treat I received when I downloaded an ARC of The Seaside Sisters by Pamela Kelley from Netgalley! I have enjoyed reading it and this one was an exceptional read! The story tells us about Hannah, a writer who decides to return to Chatham, a beautiful seaside Cape Cod town where she lived growing up. This beautifully written, heartfelt story captured my attention from the very beginning. The characters are relatable and lovable and by the end of the book, they felt like friends. I loved the descriptions of the places in town! It made me want to visit the place! I related to some of the important parts of this book, marriage on the rocks, loss of family, connecting back with your roots. This was an amazing read for me;It is a story that, was complete!
Months after losing her mother to cancer, Hannah, a new rom-com author starts getting panic attacks. So Hannah decides to go spend the summer at her beachy childhood town, to reflect and finish her next book.
It's a sweet story about new friends, family, neighbors, going through life's passages and struggles to find happiness. Enjoy whale watching, cookouts, seafood, book writing club, and gorgeous summer days and events shared by two sisters and their aunt in this cozy cape town.
I loved this book it was such a great read Pamela writes such great stories they are so beautiful and heartwarming!
Meet Hannah. She is an author living in Brooklyn and having a bit of writer’s block with her second book and struggling with the death of her mother.
Hannah needs a break.
Sara, her older sister, still lives in their hometown, where their mother lived as well. She was a librarian once, and now has four kids and a husband. Sara needs a break as well.
When an opportunity arrives to go back to Chatham for the summer and stay with her aunt, Hannah takes it.
Spending time with Sara and her aunt is slowly helping Hannah and Sara, who is working in a bookstore and loving it, but getting some blowback on the homefront. And Hannah has made friends with a boy from high school.
Book, the beach and sisters, I think it is the best combination for a life reset!
The first word I think of for this author’s works is charming. Not without some heartache and loss, but full of hope and a happy ending. We don’t get enough of those!

The Seaside Sisters by Pamela Kelley. A fun beach read. The characters were very likeable and it was fun to learn more about them. I can see where this could become a series.
The story of two sisters reconnecting after the death of their mother. It was an easy and quick read with a happy ending.
Run-of-the-Mill Romance
The Seaside Sisters is a decent little romance. The main character, Hannah, is a romantic comedy author whose first book was relatively successful. Unfortunately, she is struggling with writer’s block with her second novel and the deadline is looming. She decides to return to the seaside town where she grew up to hopefully get the creative juices flowing. And there she encounters her high school crush, Spencer, who is now a local attorney. The initial tension between the two is so mild it barely registers. They seem to develop a solid friendship very quickly. They had both recently ended relationships, but the exes seem not to matter very much.
There are actually three different story arcs in this novel. The primary one is Hannah and Spencer. Another involves Hannah’s sister, Sarah, and the third her aunt—with whom she is staying. Sarah’s husband works long hours and is barely present for Sarah and their children. Sarah, a stay-at-home mom, very much wants to get a part-time job but her husband is not very supportive. He prefers the status quo. Aunt Maddie and her husband of 30+ years have recently separated and are unsure of what their future looks like.
Having the three different interconnected story threads was very helpful to this book because it seemed to stall in the middle. Too much energy is devoted to Hannah’s every day routine. How many onion bagels can one person eat anyway? In fact, these characters seem to always be eating something. And, interestingly, there is ample description of the various meals, but next to no description of the characters beyond their general ages.
Fortunately, all three stories end satisfactorily.
