I loved reading this book. It was great to see the representation of these couples' unique stories. The writing was genuine and the stories came through the voices of the couples themselves. The photography is also beautiful. I learned a lot about how each individual grew up...whether they felt like they had role models or could see themselves out there in the media they could access.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This collection of photographs, portraits, and interviews celebrates queer commitment in an absolutely delightful and heartwarming way. This is a must-read for anyone who is seeking to individuate themselves, who is seeking to understand what is possible for them and their relationships.
"This photographic celebration of queer love and excellence gathers fourteen LGBTQ+ power couples, offering a glimpse into the journeys that led to their meaningful relationships and thriving careers."
Queer Power Couples by Hannah Murphy winter is the book with beautiful pictures about successful couples that's being in the LGBTQ plus community the author asked everyone the
question when was the first time you knew and how did they meet which made for a very interesting read from journalist to chefs photographers authors dancers directors in on and on they represent every walk of life and the questions the author ask lead into some very interesting conversations about living abroad how they see their self and on and on but even have an Emily Dickinson scholar a scientist who was on the team that found synthetic insulin and much more their achievements are astounding there's even one who went back to school after already being a successful journalist the stories really are incredible interesting and inspirational my favorite was Anthony and Stephen but that really does. Ty with Jenna and Ayesha and if I think too much about it they probably would have others that I would say were my favorite as a mother of a lesbian daughter it makes me feel good to know not only do they have successful long term romances and careers that are comfortable in their skin I love this book and although I am legally blind and couldn't see up every picture for those who can see it will be a treat l'm sure. This was a great book and when I totally loved it definite five star read and a great coffee table book for anyone's living room or at least for those who want to look like they're in the know.
The photo book is heart-warming, and thoughtful from the beginning to end. Queer Power Couples, shows insight in to the lives of Queer couples through photography, and personal interviews. Letting the reader really connect to stories on the pages. I would buy this book for someone as a gift.
I enjoyed this look into how couples make their relationships work and how they met. I kind of thought the pictures would be more…something. There isn’t anything wrong with the photos, but it’s advertised as a “photographic celebration” so I was expecting more. It’s a coffee table book, but it’s not because there is a lot of text. Too much text for a dinner party book or for someone to just flip through while you are getting them a drink. I think it would just sit on someone’s bookshelf unless you bought it for Valentine’s day or as an engagement present. Read it and tell me how you would categorize it. The stories are great. I just don’t know if I would promote it as a photo book.
A beautiful anthology that follows fourteen couples and offers a glimpse into the journeys they've experienced before finding their partner and careers.
I thought the stories they shared were empowering, and I loved reading about each couple's experiences.
The photographs were gorgeous, but my favorite had to be the ones where the couple took a picture of eachother!
This was a really well put together book. A collection of interviews, it was really great to see some people who I recognized (if only by their work) and some unfamiliar names as well. I feel like I learned a lot and was able to see so much joy in these couples; as the author stated, too often queer stories are about the difficulty and pain of finding spaces where you can feel safe.
This is a beautiful book with a brilliant concept and execution. The Winters showcase an incredible variety of queer couples with a wide range of interests, life experiences, and more. I honestly had only heard of a few of the people in here before reading, but I won’t be able to forget any of them now. Besides them being interesting and cool people all around, their stories prove to be affirming of a spectrum of queer experiences, as well as the existence of the spectrum itself. They, and the Winters, prove that there is no one right way to be queer., which makes this book all the more delightful. The world absolutely needs more books like this, books that are just brimming over with queer joy.
Hannah Murphy Winter's Queer Power Couples is a moving celebration of LGBT love, life, and success. It's so much more than simply an art book or coffee table adornment--it's an intimate and exciting peek into the lives of queer couples who are making changes in the world and leaving their marks on history.
Both the photography sessions and the interviews were conducted with the utmost sensitivity, but also with curiosity, which combined allowed each couple's love for each other to shine through every page; I let out an "aww" more than a few times while reading. However, queer love is not so much the focus of the book as queer success. It hadn't occurred to me, prior to reading, that this is the first point in history where there are enough publicly queer power couples to warrant a book-length tribute to them. As a lesbian myself, this is exhilarating and empowering, yet still educational--I learned a ton of information about the featured figures that I never knew, which helped me view my own identity and relationship to success through new lenses.
To my knowledge, there is no other book on the market quite like Queer Power Couples; I hope the book is the first in a long lineage to come. The book is nothing less than a joy to read.
Beautiful book with stunning and amazing photos. Wow this is just a great coffee table book. Might need the physical version.
An absolutely gorgeous and loving portrait of queer couples through both the lenses of the authors, and their own lenses. This book was sweet, and funny, and absolutely captivating. I loved that there were so many different experiences shown throughout the spectrum of couples chosen, and just how many couples were either decades-long relationships, or relationships where the couple met later on in life. So much representation feels geared toward showing youth people like them living out and happy while young, but I found seeing the couples in this book who either came out much later in life, or have happily been living with their partners for decades, to be so comforting. This book does a great job of showing that queer, love-filled futures are possible.
This book was such a joy and a delight to experience. I loved every second of reading it. While "power couples" is a little silly as a concept, and mainly seems to be about like, capitalist achievement, it was still so beautiful to see these depictions and interviews with these loving, queer couples in their wonderful variety. I really needed it, and didn't even know it, and I'm certain many other people need this book, too.
This is a beautiful collection of Queer Power Couples. The photography is great but I'm not quite sure how it would fit into our store. We'll most likely bring it in for the holidays as it's more of a coffee table book.
“Queer Power Couples: On Love and Possibility” by Hannah Murphy Winter is a book enveloped in queer joy, sealed with hope, offering an intimate and beautiful portrayal of domestic bliss, love, and stories that compose a modern queer tapestry. These narratives serve as a beacon for queer youth with interviews and photographs highlighting queer love among influential couples within the community. The personalities of these couples shine through as they capture each other in photographs, and their love stories resonate with shared experiences common in the queer community, transcending our collective strife and struggles. They offer a glimpse into a future brimming with love.
These stories celebrate their trailblazing achievements, detailing life after coming out in a society where visibility is scarce and inspirational figures are few. They discuss building a future centered on intersectional visibility and inclusion. Initially, I anticipated marveling at beautiful images, but the compelling writing and interviews underscore the book’s essential place in queer libraries for its awe-inspiring stories and introspection. As I read, I couldn’t help but smile at the beautiful, thoughtful interviews. As a non-binary queer person of color, I cherish this document’s role in chronicling our queer history, breaking decades of silence. It’s an easy read, completed in one sitting, and feels like a warm embrace, illuminating our dark past while celebrating a present crafted both secretly and openly against all odds. This book is a celebration of queer joy, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my complimentary ARC. I eagerly anticipate more from these authors’ art and works!
The Winters’ combine intimate interviews and images for a stellar, inspiring book. This book highlights the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, spanning different forms of gender identity and expression, age, race, backgrounds, and occupations. Each couple’s story, even each individual’s story, was engaging and thoughtful. In short, this book succeeds at its mission to support queer joy and showcase the multitude of possibilities in the lives of LGBTQ+ folks.
Queer Power Couples is a GORGEOUS coffee table book with photos & interviews from queer couples. I read this slowly, learning about queer couples that I would have never known about!
It was wonderful to see the love these great people have. My favorite part was that each couple took a picture of each other in addition to the photographer pics. I loved these insights into how the couples saw each other.
I would definitely recommend Queer Power Couples to anyone who needs to see a little more love in the world.
Thanks to NetGalley, Hannah Murphy Winter, and Chronicle Books for the chance to read and review this advance copy!
A very unique and enjoyable anthology of queer love. The interviews are intriguing and interesting. The photos are beautiful. I loved learning about the couples. Beautifully done.
This was a beautiful tome about love, life, and possibilities. I felt like it was a well-spoken, well-photographed reminder that we are all the same. We love the same.We live the same. Queer people have different struggles, but even in that, we aren't that different from our straight counterparts. Different struggles for sure, but … For me, this book was a poignant statement that we are all human. Full stop. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!
This book was so inspiring and powerful. This book made me even prouder to be a queer woman. I loved the section “Are you sisters?”, that is an extremely relatable experience for many queer women. Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book
I really enjoyed this book. I don't know too much about he queer community, but I found it very interesting. Beautiful photographs mixed with interviews.
