It was painful to read How to Treat a Lady Knight Right. I knew it from the cover already, but I still wanted to give it a shot. I just don't enjoy ecchi for boys, since girls are written as idiots and here once again Lady Leo is supposedly a strong knight and then blushes all the time when the idiot Foolie declares his love for her. There's no real plot, but small occurrences where Foolie enjoys Leo's muscles. The series isn't even funny, sadly so. It's very cliched by all means. The only good thing is that there's no plot, since the series couldn't handle one like this. It's ecchi, but nothing over the top, since the highlight is on muscles and not necessarily on boobs and whatnot. This is the only thing that saves the series.
The art looks wonky at times and isn't steady. Art wise this is your basic meh meh with nothing to offer except weird view angles at times. The only facial expressions are the ones when Leo blushes or looks wooden. I should know better than to read series like this. I don't know for who this is meant for even.
Kodansha announced during this year’s New York Comic Con the English digital release of Kengo Matsumoto’s romantic comedy manga, How to Treat a Lady Knight Right, slated for November 21st, 2023. This announcement comes almost two years after Sol Press relinquished their rights to the series in 2022. We got an early look into this English release from Kodansha, and you won’t want to miss this pick up.
Beauty Comes From Within
The beautiful Leo Cornellia would catch anyone’s eye with her short silver hair and face full of scars. With her heavy armor, flowing red cape, and trusty sword at her side, she stands out as the mightiest lady knight in the land. Foolie Dent, a seemingly ordinary mage, finds himself mesmerized by Leo’s beauty and is determined to win her heart with a bold declaration of love right at the beginning of the manga. Leo, as cool and composed as she may seem at first, is flustered by this confession, wondering how any man could love a woman with such a scarred face and body.
The manga features fairly short chapters divided into short situations that Leo and Foolie find themselves in. Foolie is consistently determined to help Leo in any way he can, despite how independent Leo presents herself. One such scenario happens after Leo slays some monsters. Foolie notices she is slightly injured and starts to put his hands on her with the intent of using healing magic. Leo, face red with embarrassment, assumes Foolie’s motives may be perverted – only to quickly find out he’s truly trying to help her. This is what I love about Foolie. Every action he takes for Leo is driven by pure intentions, and most of the time, he genuinely manages to assist her. He might be persistent in his pursuit of love – but he’s hardly inappropriate. This makes the manga a fun read, one where you don’t have to brace yourself for ill intentions often seen in romance manga.
Readers may easily relate to Leo as they progress through the story. She frequently experiences dysmorphia due to the scars that adorn her body, reminders of rigorous years of knight training. Maybe the intense training of a knight is not something you can connect with, but I’m positive that many of us can empathize with Leo’s struggle of feeling self-conscious about her body.
The artwork of How to Treat a Lady Knight Right is reminiscent of the Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out style, but it takes it a step further with even more intricate line work. This added level of detail is particularly evident in the characters’ fantasy attire and their meticulously designed armor. What truly amazes me about Matsumoto’s art is the manner in which he portrays the emotions of his characters. He is able to capture Leo’s frazzled emotions through his drawings, even when she doesn’t speak.
How to Treat a Lady Knight Right is perfect for those seeking a cute and easy-to-digest romance that one can read in short spurts. Chapters are easy to pick up even if you don’t quite remember what happened in the last. As for me, I read it between buses on my morning commute with ease. Kodansha has set the digital release date for November 21st, and they have conveniently provided a comprehensive list of all the available platforms to enjoy it on their website.

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book.
This story wasn't bad, VERY fan serviced, and the story wasn't something to be remembered much. If you are bored and in need of a palate cleanser this one would do.
I was so pleased to see a graphic novel/manga that I was interested in on Read now and took the opportunity to read this one.
This was fine, it didnt blow my socks off - our main character throughout is stuggling with being called a lady when she is a fighter and a warrior, she is fierce and independant. The story is good but not hugely interestnig.
I would be interested in reading the next in the series.

Mage Foolie Dent falls in love with Leo Cornelia, the strongest lady knight in the kingdom. Leo is initially flabbergasted by his confession of love, but as they work together, they start to see each other's kinder sides. Foolie's healing powers and training skills prove his worth in battle against a variety of fantasy characters. The manga showcases how love can come in all shapes and sizes, and the comedy elevates the story without being mean-spirited. How to Treat a Lady Knight Right is a funny, sweet, and great fantasy rom-com that readers will enjoy rooting for. And while I think it isn't my cup of tea I think many will be rooting for this series and the adorable cast of characters.
A very cute read. It reminds me of the Tomo-chan manga in regards to the length of chapters and the overall feel.
It isn't plot driven and revolves around the FMC and the MMC. The only other character introduced that's made a reappearance would be the MMCs little sister. It has romance, comedy and some world building which isn't too detailed as it doesn't seem to be the main focus so far.
If you're looking for an easy to read shoujo manga this would be it. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next installment as this was a nice break from all the action packed shonen manga I have been reading recently.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. For mage Foolie Dent, beauty is found via strength, bravery, and great abs! Hence why he has fallen head over heels in love with Leo Cornelia, the strongest lady knight around. Her response: completely flabbergasted! But as the premiere volume of Kengo Matsumoto’s How to Treat a Lady Knight Right shows, she’s not entirely weirded out by Foolie.
At first, Leo cannot believe her ears as Foolie confesses his love for her. After all, how can someone fall for a woman covered in scars and muscles? But as Foolie quickly proves, he’s not pulling her leg. Leo’s quiet smile, her stance, and — yes — her abs are what he found himself smitten over. Reluctantly, Leo allows Foolie to go on quests with her. As the two partner up, Leo starts seeing the kinder side of Foolie, and vice versa.
On top of his love for Leo, Foolie also proves his worth in battle against a foray of fantasy characters. His healing powers come in handy for the lady knight, especially for deep wounds and magic curses. Foolie also has a knack for training others with their magic skills, as he shows Leo how to control hers. (Before he came around, her explosion magic literally blew her up!) Even a training sessions shows just how much Foolie is putting into both this hopeful relationship and his desire to become stronger.
But it’s the love factor of How to Treat a Lady Knight Right that’s the manga’s biggest strength. The idea of a scrawny man fallen for a muscular woman could’ve been just a one-note joke; instead, it’s a proper showcase of how love can come in all shapes and sizes. How Leo blushes when she tries on a birthday present, the way Foolie blushes when Leo falls asleep on his shoulder, and the care in his words when talking about the scars on her back are presented with such care and sweetness.
However, it’s when the comedy is elevated when this manga is firing on all cylinders. Leo’s first time eating sweets, Foolie’s jealous sister Anri’s antics, and Foolie constantly praising Leo’s abs are great comedic highlights. There’s even some good humor on how human the tough Leo really is, especially when it comes to her fear of thunder and her first bout with a cold. Thankfully, nothing here is mean-spirited; every joke has a tinge of heart placed in the strong humor that’s presented.
Matsumoto also does a great job with the visual aspect of the series. Whether it’s how Leo’s muscles are drawn or the sweetness of a sleepy Foolie, there’s so much care that’s placed into every frame of this manga. Although there’s not a lot of action in the premiere volume, Leo’s battle with a cyclops is shown with plenty of intensity and a good sliver of gore. But it’s when moments are calm between Foolie and Leo when we can see the beauty in everything that the mage sees.
How to Treat a Lady Knight Right is a delight! It’s funny as hell, but it’s also one of the sweetest fantasy rom-coms this side of the drawbridge. Readers will find it very easy to root for Leo and Foolie, as well as laugh at the two’s wacky antics throughout this premiere volume. There’s a new rom-com power couple in town, and How to Treat a Lady Knight Right will surely slay any sort of competition that wishes to stand in its way!
Eh. Mostly a collection of short stories involving the two characters. Neither character is terribly interesting and the name of the MMC is Foolie (why?). I am not sorry that I read this volume, but I am terribly unlikely to continue reading this series. There is really no reason to because none of the stories are progressing to do anything.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
Kind of a weird story and a bit hard to follow. However, the art is on point. Very cool. Wow. Definitely interested in more from this artist.
I found the volume quite humorous at the start but also dull, and like I have seen this before, and by the end, I wouldn't say I liked it much. I do not see myself picking up the rest of the series. I had initially picked up the ARC as I thought it could be interesting, and sadly, it didn't hit that for me.
I didn't see the chemistry between the characters, but that could also be because I don't like the tsundere (I think that's the right one?) archetype all that much, so I found Leo rather annoying and didn't like how she treated Houli.
Review to come to my blog (and other places) nov 27.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Haha, I had no clue what to expect based on the cover or the title. I mean, this could go so many ways! But it was really wholesome in the end!
In this one we meet Lady Knight Leo, a dapper girl who kicks some serious butt, has some serious sick abs and muscles, and well, doesn't really know about love or romance. Until the moment a sorcerer pops up and professes his love to her. And from that moment a lot of cute (and some kick-ass) moments begin! And I was fully invested in the story! I just loved how Houli, or Foolie as our Leo calls him, never gave. Was there for Leo when she needed a hand (or a healing moment), helped her when she was sick, knew when her birthday was, and other moments. He really was such a sweetie and I found myself rooting for him to be able to show Leo that really they can be together! She is worried she isn't feminine enough, but she had her moments, plus, he is a real die-hard for muscles. He LOVES (yes, with capitals) her abs. Loves her rock-hard arm muscles.
I really loved the contrast between them. Leo is a strong, determined, will kill you with her work-out regime girl and Leo is clumsy, a bit of a doofus. At least for most, he has his more swoony/strong moments.
And I definitely loved seeing Leo go from head-strong girl to still head-strong girl but slowly lowering those walls around Foolie, um Houlie. We see her fall asleep on him. Make some adorable faces. See her be flustered when she cuts her bangs a bit too short (though it was cute as both Houli and I agree). And there are more. With each new chapter we see her get a bit more girly. See her discover another side to her buff/strong/no nonsense self. And also discover that cake? Well, that is just yummy. Yes, this girl never had cake. Let that soak in. Never. Had. Cake. Someone bring this girl some sweets!
I love that there is a blend of action, magic, cute moments, and silly/humour moments. There is never a boring moment and I had so much fun reading this manga. I definitely cannot wait for more volumes and I am shipping these two so much!
The art was quite fun. I did think it was a bit weird that her armour didn't cover her abs/vulnerable area. But then again, welcome to female armour. XD I loved that the mangaka was able to show us her cute side, but also showed us her strong side.
All in all, I need more of this manga! This was just way too much fun!
Short and pretty sweet! It's nice to see a gal with muscles and battle scars being the target of our lead's affection! It's cute seeing these two interact, and Leo trying in her own way to figure out if she believes him or not. Chapters are quick and usually humorous, great for a quick read!
How to Treat a Lady Knight is the start of a manga series about a female knight and a sorcerer who proclaims his love for her. The chapters are short, and the story has a comedic tone as these two interact. As far as this first volume is concerned, the world-building is pretty light, focusing more on the characters.
While I won't personally be continuing on with the series, I do think there is an audience that will enjoy it, just one that is probably younger than me.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a review copy.
This was a fun story. Lady Leo is the best knight in the country, strictly trained since childhood. She’s too busy for friends and she definitely doesn’t need romance. So she doesn’t take it well when the mage Foolie declares his love for her. She can’t understand what he sees in her when she’s scarred and not at all feminine. But she’s exactly the kind of woman Foolie wants, if only he could make her see it.
The first volume consists of several short stories that show the two interacting. There isn’t much depth to them, but they are fun and well-drawn. The volume ends in a bit of a cliffhanger.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy for an honest review
‘How to Treat a Lady Knight’ Volume 1 was really good, it was sweet but by the end I found the gimmick was getting a bit boring. It has nice art and overall I had a fun time but it didn’t really keep me interested.
I would recommend it though 💕 it was ok

How to Treat a Lady Knight was the first manga I read in this environment. The drawing style aligned with manga, and the storyline was interesting. It had its dull moments.
There was some reaptativness with the storyline, and the story was getting interesting when it ended, unfortunately.
I am not sure I would want to read the second just because I wasn't entertained enough, but I am sure someone who loves and reads a lot of manga would love this more.

By the title alone, you know exactly what you’re walking into. The story of Leo and Foolie (the names alone are so dumb they’re perfection) is told in short vignettes with each being a pretty contained story. I prefer more of an overarching plot to see character development, but we didn’t get any of that here.
The majority of character ‘growth’ we see is Leo slowly overtime softening to Foolie. I do love Leo’s personality and her hilariously portrayed obsession with remaining in fit and fighting form - how else are you going to maintain the world’s most perfect set of abs after all??
I would have preferred more plot and more depth, but you get exactly what’s written on the tin so really who can argue about that?
*I received an eARC from Kodansha Comics & NetGalley. All opinions are my own*
This is a very interesting premise for a book, so I was very intrigued at this story so I was quite happy when I was accepted for being able to read this. I definitely will be reading more from this author as I thought it was really fun. it was easy to read. The characters are cool and I also loved but not only is it not stereotyping women or men is also being very inclusive on muscular women and Men who like that and I would 100% recommend it is such a cool interesting book. The character development is actually really cute and the slow Burn romance is so good Would 100% reccomend
