This was so fascinating - love the breadth of countries/authors covered here. The tone is very accessible and makes for enjoyable reading as Jameson explores the novel in our present day landscape.

Reading "Inventions of a Present" is like being in a lecture hall with a dynamic lit professor at the podium. Jameson's essay on Gabriel Garcia Marquez, entitled "History as a Family Model," is of particular interest as the literary world marks a decade since the Latin American master's passing. I only wish that Professor Jameson would remember to #namethetranslator more!
