This will definitely work for many people – a cute little hangout vibes romance. For me, the characters were all a little too twee (or cruel with no dimension). At times it read like there was too little going on and it didn’t really hold my attention and then parts where the plot became convoluted.
Always happy to support Scottish authors but Plot Twist wasn’t the kind of romance book that I enjoy. If you like your romances very cutesy and fluffy then this could be for you.

✨ BOOK REVIEW: Plot Twist
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5
(3.5/5)
This one was definitely for the Emily Henry fans for sure and that same type of writing is what made me stay. This contemporary novel did a great job at layering its characters and having them multi-faceted. The concept of pen-pals and meeting face to face only to realize that you’ve been writing to a hunk? Who wouldn’t love that?! Especially an Irish one.
I was having a kind of tug and war with some of the characters and their relationships, though. The development kind of waned for me and I wish there was more foundation or build up there.
This was a great debut, though, and it definitely makes me look forward to more of Breea’s contemporary romances in the future.
Thank you Headline and NetGalley for this arc.

I enjoyed this fun debut rom-com! Becca is an elementary school teacher and aspiring writer in Glasgow. When she suddenly loses her best friend Rae in a car accident and is about to be engaged to her ex boyfriend it throws her into a tailspin. Her friend Riley, a member of her writer's group which she'd been messaging and sharing passages of their respective novels invites her for some time in Ireland for a mini writer's retreat she jumps at it! Little does she know that Riley is a sexy Irishman.
I enjoyed this story! I loved all the side characters, like Riley's sister, her partner as well as his adorable daughter. There were also some more serious themes weaved in there like the loss of her best friend Rae. I'm looking forward to more from this writer.
Thanks to @headline, @netgalley, and the author of this ARC

A captivating and immersive read from start to finish. The author's storytelling is masterful, with well-developed characters and a plot that keeps you engaged throughout. The prose is beautifully written, and the themes explored are both thought-provoking and profound. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an unforgettable literary experience. Five stars!

Thanks to Netgalley, Headline Books, and Breea Keenan for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Plot Twist was like a breath of fresh air. It was everything I love in a good romance. It was deep, emotional, funny, and addictive.
The storyline was compelling, the characters strong, and the writing was excellent.
I was drawn into the story immediately. I was hooked from the first paragraph, which doesn't happen often.
The main characters, Becca and Riley, had great chemistry. The tension and build up was really good, but the spicy scenes themselves were a bit lacking. That's the only reason I didn't give Plot Twist 5/5. It's really the only thing I can critique though, as the rest of the book was fantastic.
I highly recommend, and I look forward to reading more from Breea Keenan.
4 stars from me. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I really liked the concept of this book, but the execution fell flat.
PLOT TWIST is the story of struggling writers-turned e-pen pals-turned lovers who share a house in the Irish countryside in attempt to work through personal and career struggles. Throw in preschooler, a deceased best friend, and hidden secrets that come to light and you have a messy rom-com that doesn't quite stand out.
I don't think any of it was developed enough to be enjoyable or satisfactory. The relationship between Becca and Riley needed more build up, more richness, and more chemistry. I wasn't buying their relationship. And while I enjoyed the author's voice and humor, the conflict was not developed enough to be meaningful. Everything felt a bit surface level.
I will look forward to Breea's future work, but likely will not be re-reading this one.
Thank you to Netgalley and Headline for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. PLOT TWIST is out now.

Well, that was a plot twist! Becca goes to Ireland to work on her book and stay with her online-only friend, only to discover Riley is not the female romance writer she's expecting, but a very good looking man. There is a spark immediately that they try to ignore, but of course, romance wins.
I love a good romcom and this didn't let me down. It was a fun, easy read with nice spice. I will definitely look for more by this new author.

I often find I struggle to like contemporary romance but I enjoyed this book.
Becca is a teacher who is writing a children’s book on the side. She meets Riley, a romance writer, in an online writing forum and they begin an internet friendship. When Becca’s life falls apart, Riley invites Becca to stay with her in Ireland. Only when Becca arrives, she discovers Riley is not a 'her' at all, as Becca presumed, but a gorgeous (obviously) man.
The book promotes itself as being very chicklit/romcom and I will say I definitely got movie romcom vibes as I read. In fact, more than once I was reminded of [the movie] Holiday whilst reading.
Plot Twist had all the ingredients a good chicklit/romcom needs: There is an actual conflict (so rare!) and some good misunderstandings. The minor characters were great (mostly, I was actually not a huge fan of Becca’s BFF; her scenes just seemed to indicate she was a bitchy drunk which I assume was not the intention). The leads had some nice chemistry. The Irish setting was appealing. And, oh, the hero had a cute kid.
One negative was its humour. I wouldn’t say it was hilarious at all (as claimed on the blurb). I never found Becca to be particularly funny at all, despite Riley finding her so.
Overall, Plot Twist was sweet and a pretty strong debut from Keenan. I’d recommend.
4 out of 5

Oh, what a surprisingly lovely debut novel from Breea Keenan.
Sure, you can easily see it's a debut, there are so many moments that need polish, polish, polish, there are plot - holes and tons of convenient things happening, the plot is easy and predictable, but!
It's a lovely, humorous read with some poignant situations and brilliant banter between the characters - they have great sense of humour. Maybe there is nothing new in this book, but nevertheless it has this "SOMETHING" that you're looking for in your reads and I enjoyed this whole friends who become lovers, lovers who become friends, exes turning up, grand gestures, complicated past...
Just go into this book with open heart and open mind. It will take you on a lovely journey when you won't overthink things - sometimes such a heart - warming, easy read is what you need.

Like Riley and me, if you enjoy romantic comedies, you will adore this book. It strongly reminded me of the film. PS: I cherish you. Ireland serves as the backdrop, which is ideal for a romantic comedy. In addition, I liked how the story was portrayed in both the present and flashbacks. Becca's life as it is now is shown to us, but we also get to see tidbits of her life with the best friend she lost, which adds to our understanding of her.
It certainly lived up to its the name with a number of unexpected story turns. I thought the epilogue was AMAZING. This is a closed door/fade to black narrative; it's lovely but not spicy. The supporting cast members were really

An easy read, cliche romance and a nice storyline. A predictable plot twist.
The characters were sweet, I liked the fact it was based around grief and overcoming that. It was a nice easy read.

Plot twist by Breea Keenan
Some of the tropes in this book
-Friends to lovers
-Small town
-Forced proximity
Amazing debut novel. Well it sure did live up to its name of plot twist as there was a few. It was the perfect kind of Rom-com. The scenery of the places where they were so descriptive and made me imagine I was there. I enjoyed that it wasn’t all about the main characters Becca and Riley and that even the side characters had a time for their own stories. I absolutely loved the epilogue and feel that it ended the book with a perfect happy ending.

I really enjoyed this story and felt that it dealt so well with some difficult topics like loss in a respectful way but overall managed to be lighthearted and humorous. I liked the main characters and was rooting for them all the way through. Friendship, family, misunderstandings and love - what's not to enjoy!?

small town and forced proximity? sign me up!
Becca is an aspiring author who meets Riley in an online writers' forum. Becca and Riley form a friendship, with Becca under the illusion that Riley is a woman. When Becca's best friend Rae suddenly dies, Riley invites Becca to Ireland for the summer to deal with both her grief and their mutual writers' block. Becca arrives in Ireland to find that Riley is in fact a stunning Irish man.
The premise was really simple, and I think that's what caught my attention, as well as being set in Ireland, 'cause I love a good romcom set in Ireland (or somewhere that's not the States...). However, I find it hard to believe that Becca never suspected that her online friend wasn’t a woman or that Riley never pointed out that he was a man. What I really, really liked was the banter between Riley and Becca, it was hilarious!
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and will certainly keep on reading anything this author writes in the future!
Thank you netgalley for providing an arc in exchange of an honest review.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. It didn't hook me and was difficult to continue. I hope this finds its audience, but it wasn’t for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

Breea Keenan has written a fabulous story - the plot (and its twists!) of this book are truly fabulous. I especially loved the tongue-in-cheek moments of Riley's "this is a romance novel trope" interjections. Riley, Ivy, and the rest of the residents of this idyllic Irish countryside setting are so warm and well-described you can't help but fall in love with them and wish them the best - you're left feeling that Becca would really, truly, be daft to let them go!
Where this book fell down for me, however, was a bit of the belabored "drama" - so much of the emotional anguish driving the story could've been avoided if Becca just asked a quick clarifying question once or twice. Unfortunately, as well, I found her health scare to be a bit misguided - having been through similar situations myself, it felt a bit overblown and dramatic for little reason. Perhaps a further disclaimer from the publisher/author would help, here.
Overall - I really enjoyed this read, and would be fascinated to see where this cast of characters ends up in a sequel!

Thank you to NetGalley, Headline and author Breea Keenan for this eARC.
I really enjoyed this debut. It's fun, well written with loveable characters and an engaging storyline. H
ighly recommend, absolutelt worth the read!

This book really did give Emily Henry vibes. It was a deep and cute and fluffy, the perfect romance novel!

I like to read stories like this. It is a cute, heartwarming, sweet romantic comedy, set in a small town. I liked the plot, the characters' build, and their chemistry. A delightful read that kept me turning the pages until the end.

I can’t tell you how excited I was when THE plot twist turned out to be what I hoped it would be 🤭 I really enjoyed this read and thought it was the perfect mix of small town vibes, romance, found family and drama (!) after the initial big plot twist the story wove up and down and had me hooked till the end. The ending was so so lovely and I couldn’t stop smiling while reading and throughout the book I felt so much warmth and support for the characters and their little stories along the way. I really enjoyed the inclusion of LGBTQ+ representation and how the main character Becca was just so accepting and supportive of everyone regardless of who they were. I think the forgiveness and compassion she showed is definitely something we could all take on board in everyday life 🤲🏻 ✨ Thank you Breea, Headline Publishing Group and NetGalley for allowing me to read this as an eARC ✨
