This is not a well-researched book. For example, it has no footnotes, and its references include citations to unserious sources like Common Dreams and Monthly Review, along with Scientific American Magazine and several blogs. The author appears to have read only a handful of serious books although he has read and referenced a number of scholarly articles.
The author probably does not realize it, but he is likely a neo-Marxist. Also, he strongly advocates for a zero-growth economic system, the redistribution of all existing wealth, and sustainable planet. He apparently does not know that from the date of capitalism (roughly 1765 in Northcentral England) the level of overall human wellbeing has increased by 5,000% through the year 2000 and had continued sharply upward since then. Finally, the author does not clearly state if he plans to lower the existing lifestyles in the West, so they equate more fairly with the economic wellbeing in the developing nations or vice versa.
