I loved the background we get in Ororo's upbringing and her encounters with The Shadow King - an extremely powerful mutuant whom I've only seen before in the Legion series. I hated for Ororo her embarrassment at her beautiful hair. And her eyes. Oh yes, they did represent something different about her, they were also beauty in and of itself. Her care of the kiddies and how she had a mothering care taking instinct showed that rescue angel she is.
I look forward to finishing this book. I definitely recommend it to Storm fans!

Jackson’s book chronicles the origin story for one of the popular X-Men, Storm. After an early tragedy left her an orphan, Ororo (Storm), navigated through the streets of Egypt. She encounters threats and friends, which I don’t want to spoil.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. Loved the mythology perspective. I could see this being adapted to screen. I’d read a sequel.
Thanks you the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4/5 stars.
This is another fantastic middle grader/lower YA read in the Marvel universe. I really enjoy how these superhero books are beginning to happen with popular YA authors. I am pretty unfamiliar with x-men in terms of what lore I know, but Storm is one that I'm always just like !!!!!!!! about. So I was happy to read more about her story and how she met Professor X and the rest of them.
I loved how this was accurate to the lore but also had elements where I was just...happy to read it? Like a certain uhhhhhhh Black Panther makes an appearance :) I also just liked how it was Ororo trying to heal herself emotionally in order to like herself and her powers. I do want to know more about this "tribe" versus her being a mutant though.
Also, I couldn't put this down once I started. It's an excellent binge read.

Absolutely PHENOMINAL!The amount of SEROTONIN this story provided me was so great it moved me to tears🥹! Grief, found family, love, self discovery amd so much more! I saw the young woman behind one of my favorite heriones and it made me love her so much more! I went into this not knowing much at all about ouroro and how she became Storm. The growth is this is uncanny and I had no idea of the struggle to be comfortable in herself and her own skin! The energy between her and T Challa was so unexpected and I loved every single one of their interactions with each other. Losing her parents so young she really had to fend for herself but she still was able to keep going. I also loved that with all the time she spent with T Challa she begin to see that she did indeed desreve the blessing of her gifts. Slowly but surely she relized she was so much more than her circumstances and SHE DECIDES what SHE WILL BE GOING FORWARD!

Anything that Tiffany Jackson writes is absolute fire! This middle grade novel is no different. Taking a first stab at speculative fiction, Jackson brings to life superhero powers, evil, and loyalty.
Ororo Munroe faces tragedy early in life and ends up on the streets of Cairo, where she must keep her white hair hidden and her blue eyes cast low. When she loses control, odd things happen that she can't explain.
A book with a journey, obstacles, and villains, this work brings to life female power and the awesomeness of the superhero, Storm.

thank you also to NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I enjoyed this book! I think it was a pretty good origin story. sad, happy, cute, funny. the feels lol.
shoutout to Ainet. she was so real. she was pretty patient with and encouraging to Ororo. and I think that helped her so much.
and shoutout to T’Challa! their friendship was so cute! he respected her boundaries. he protected her. he had her back. pretty good friend me thinks lol.
Ro’s growth from constantly dimming her light and downplaying who she is to proudly living in it, embracing her beauty and her powers >>>

I have been a fan of Storm ever since I saw the X-Men movie at the age of 12. She was powerful, smart, and a complete badass. You can tell that the author is also a fan because she writes the character with such passion and historical accuracy (she did her research!).
Storms beginning reminds me greatly of Wanda Maximoffs origin story in the Marvel movies. Such a devastating loss always propels one to long for emotional connection; a sense of family. The reader knows that Ororo is meant for so much more than what she settles for but her character growth in the story is astounding.
I loved the meet-cute between T’Challa and Ororo. Their chemistry is immediate as is the trust between the characters. It was easy to love them both and root for them along the way.
Overall, this journey with Storm was fantastic. She helps the reader learn the meaning of “practice makes perfect”; it’s okay to make mistakes but to make them twice is a decision. It can take time but everyone can find their inner strength; never doubt in yourself.

This was an excellent addition into the MCU/X-Men crossover. Absolutely loved it. We get to find out Storm's origin story - which was fantastic, by the way!
Thank you to NetGalley & Tiffany D. Jackson for an e-ARC copy of "Storm: Dawn of a Goddess" - I can't wait to read more!!

I wasn’t really impressed with this book. I just didn’t feel Storm in this book. I could be wrong. The attitude, repetitive self consciousness, self entitlement half of the time and etc just rubbed me the wrong way. Also, I just didn’t see the connection between her and T’challa. It seemed forced especially with their conversation.
Author did a good job writing it for the kids. Made it easy to read and understandable.
Look, everyone has their own version of our heros/heroines from their pasts and what made them today. This isn’t just for me because that’s not how it was for me. So three stars from me for effort and imagination.
Thank you RandomHouse and NetGalley for this interesting eARC. As usual, all of my reviews are purely my own opinions without any influence from any publisher.

WHAT AN ORIGIN STORY!!
We begin with Ororo, a teenage girl wanting badly to fit in with her peers, but finding it a hard task due to her blue eyes and cloud-white hair. Instead of seeing these features as a gift, she refers to them as a curse, especially her hair. She has attempted on numerous occasions to cut or dye her hair all in the name of normalcy and acceptance. Her mother tells her that is a trait of her mother tribe but before she can pass along the history, tragedy strikes leaving Ororo an orphan to fend for herself and go on a quest to find the answers left untold due to the death of Ororo's parents.
I am a MAJOR E-Xmen fan so to see how Charles Xavier first met Storm and how she linked with the X-Men, to see the birth of her relationship with T'challa... I WAS OVER THE MOON.
Tiffany did a great job of drawing the reader in, making the characters feel real. Ororo could have been our little sister or cousin. Her street eurchin family, could have been out neighborhood friends. When they celebrated so did I, when sorrow fell, I flet the sorrow as well.
Great world building and storyline follow thourgh!

I loved this book so much!! Love Tiffany D Jackson’s books and this was perfect!! Also read it at a perfect time since X-Men 97 was released. Great addition to any fanatic and collector of the X-Men!!

this novel follows our beloved storm as a teenager, when she was ororo and lived in egypt. she does her best to blend in, both to help with her thievery and prevent people from gawking at her blue eyes and white hair. but when the powers she never learned how to use start getting out of control, and a man known as the shadow king wants to use them for evil, she’s forced to flee egypt and find her own way.
i was SUPER EXCITED when this book was first announced, because not only is storm one of my favorite x-men, but tiffany d. jackson is one of my favorite authors! i’ll admit, i’m not super far into my comic-reading journey, so all i know about storm comes from the cartoons and the movies. however, while i can’t answer to comic book accuracy, i feel like tiffany d. jackson did her story justice. ororo had a tough upbringing, but i loved seeing her grow throughout this origin story.
i highly recommend this to fellow x-men fans!

This is the story of Ororo Munroe before she became Storm, a member of the X-Men. Ororo's mother and father were killed when a plane hits their home when Ororo is six years old. She is taken in by a street crew and taught to pick locks and steal wallets to live. Things change when she steals the wallet of a bald American man who stops time. This also catches the attention of a man who has been hunting Ororo for her not-yet-awakened abilities. Ororo leaves Cairo to find a cure for her "curse" in her mother's homeland of Kenya and meets a certain Wakandan along the way. Can Ororo learn to control her abilities and accept herself

A YA original story from @marvel @writeinbk about X-Men’s Storm!
🌩️
After her parents die, Ororo Munroe’s only means of survival becomes being a thief on the streets of Cairo. She hides her shockingly white hair under a scarf in order to keep a low profile. Lately Ororo has been struggling with her control of the weather. As it gets worse, she also has strange dreams about being called home by someone who looks eerily like herself. When the Shadow King, a villain who steals people’s souls, begins chasing her, Ororo has no choice but to embrace her destiny and powers.

Fans of the Marvel universe will love this origin story about Storm. This fantasy book deals with found family, loss, and growing into who you were meant to be. I’d love to see more of the X-Men book released by Jackson! This novel is out June 4!
CW: violence, blood, blindness, parental death, grief, theft, poverty
Not a big superhero novel/movie fan so this wasn’t ever going to be a favorite, but I’ll forever love Jackson’s work. 3.5 ⭐️

I'll start by saying I am far from the target demographic on this one, but man was it a fun read. I've been a big X-Men fan for quite some time and Storm has always been among my favorites. Tiffany D. Jackson has crafted an amazing story that introduces and builds on her character for younger readers and throws plenty in there for us older readers.
Special Thanks to Random House Books for Young Readers and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.

This book was a true journey! Ororo goes through several challenges to become Storm including defeating the Shadow King. I love how much of her emotions influence her reactions. The beginning was a little slow but the information is needed to understand what is happening to Ororo. This is a book that I would recommend for others to read and read a second time myself!

Thank you to netgalley and Random House Children's | Random House Books for Young Readers for allowing me access to this book. Jackson put her foot in this story. I was so enthrall in the story the entire time.

I am of the generation that spent Saturday mornings in front of the television waiting for the new episode of "X-Men: The Animated Series," and now, as an adult, I appreciate even more the depth of the message that threaded through the lore and legacy of the show, and the comics which inspired it. Storm has always been one of my favorite characters - so regal, so awe-inspiring, so FABULOUS - and to see Tiffany Jackson get to live out a dream of her own in writing a novel all about the young Ororo was pretty frickin' fabulous, too. She has done an incredible job with this book; the story is fast-paced but thoughtfully-executed, the characterization of Ororo is spot-on to the thousandth degree, and her interactions with...other characters...(possible spoilers, sweeties) is just...perfection. What an enjoyable read, not only for the six- and seven-year-old me, but for 35-year-old me. I'm so excited to think that this could be the introduction to an amazing character for so many young people, and that they'll then venture into the world of the X-Men with delight and curiosity - and come out of it as defiantly unique, compassionate individuals.

Tiffany D. & Storm is already a match for me! This book was EVERYTHING!! I loved how even more powerful Storm is in this book. I'm gonna keep saying this, she needs her own solo movie!! And with Tiffany D. Jackson's writing, it was different to see her in a different style since I'm used to her writing horror or mystery! If and when Marvel decides to finally make a movie this is the background they should use!

This was a masterpiece. I am a huge fan of Storm and collect everything of hers. This book was written so beautifully. I can’t wait to read it again and own it.
Highly recommend. 10/10
