Rose has led a sheltered life with only one day a month to do things that she wants to do instead of lessons imposed by her mother. She has been hidden from her father since before her birth and kept ignorant of her magical legacy. When Elvis the dragon pops into her life and takes her to the House of Fourteen and she meets people that have been looking for her and waiting for her arrival when she comes into her magical inheritance. The backstory given in the book sounded interested with the battle with the witches but the House of Fourteen seems to place a lot of faith in someone that really only found out about this side of herself. The entire time Rose is thrilled about everything happening even knowing she will hae to learn so much to fight the witches.

thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.

This was a super fun and hilarious book and I can't wait for the next one to come out! Fantasy generally isn't my jam but I am so glad I got this ARC b/c Rose is a badass! I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment, but I definitely see some back-stabbing and intrigue coming on!

This was a fun quick read! I would recommend this to any young readers out there if you want a quick fantasy read. The characters are quirky, there's fun magic, and just an easy read.
A few things that were really unbelievable:
- she's suppose to be 20 and I kept thinking she was like 14. Even with her being kept away from the world by her mom, it still came across as lacking and I felt harmed her character foundation.
- there's a comment about how they can eat anything and not get fat, this isn't needed. It sounds small but a young kid could read this and get the wrong indication. There's a few other phrases within the book that has this flavor and it definitely made me cringe
- even though this is meant for adults, it's very much a YA read
- the familiar sidekick gets annoying very, very fast
Other than that, it was fun. Don't know if I'd continue the serious but I appreciated the opportunity to read it.
Thank you NetGallery, the publishers, and the authors for letting me review this book!

Thanks to netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review. This was a fun and easy read. I think it’s perfect for middle school aged readers. I wish the plot was more developed as we didn’t get much beyond an intro to the character and the magical world. I do believe book 2 would be better as we can expect to get more action from it.

I think I have found my new bingeable authors for my re-reads shelf! I was fortunate enough to be given an advanced listening copy of The Mysterious Daughter, the first book in The Undoubtable Rose Beaufont series by Sarah Noffke and Michael Anderle, narrated by Dara Rosenberg. I have so many things to say...
First, this is a fun, light fantasy romp through some of my favorite tropes. We get to see betrayal, secret magic, evil witches, magicians, warriors for good, characters with big secrets, a child with magic who is raised without knowing they have magic, and found family to name some, but not all of the things we get to see in the story.
In book one, there is no spice, I suppose there may be romance in later books, but I haven't read that far yet. I immediately went out and bought the next 6 books in this series, I expect I will buy the rest next year (really only a month and a half away). This is not a completed series, as there is at least one more book to be published in 2024.
I very much enjoyed listening to this first book, and the narrator Dara Rosenberg is fabulous. I generally listen to audio books at a 2x speed and her voice and narration style came through clear and delightfully engaging. Her voice acting really brings the characters and the world they live in to life. I plan to go looking for anything else she narrates!
One of the things I loved about The Mysterious Daughter was that the story is pretty quick to listen to at 7 and a half hours, and that time sped by. The story is fun, the characters are easy to see in their story settings and the worldbuilding isn't so heavy that you get "stuck" on it. If you're a fan of super intense worldbuilding, you might not enjoy this aspect of the book, but I did. I had no trouble at all "seeing" this world and the stories in it - hopefully you will too!

It's hard for me to describe exactly what didn't work for me, but I never felt drawn into this story. It was a relatively quick audiobook so I was able to finish it in one sitting which is a big reason for why I did not DNF it. The plot felt very simple and the characters weren't particularly relatable or complex. I think the enthusiasm was there but the story didn't hit it's mark. The narrators did a nice job and I liked Rose's chimera but overall the story felt a bit juvenile. I would like to emphasize that it's not a bad story it was just too simple for me as a fantasy novel and I would have liked more world building, complexity and danger. If you're looking for a quick fantasy story and want young adult/new adult vibes this might be one to try. I'll definitely read/listen to the next book in the series to see how it grows.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
