I was just not impressed by this story with way too much detail in everything. It got boring reading a detailed description of useless information. II could not help but keep asking myself whether all that detail was relevant to really understanding the story? It mainly was not. It seemed like filler. As far as the narration goes! Bleah! The narrator is terrible, confidently pronouncing his lines like he's trying to reach the back of the theatre, and making women sound like lisping cartoon characters. I actually giggled at one point where a male character thinks about how much he enjoys listening to one female character's voice, because she sounds more like Daisy Duck. This is a short audio novel, at only about four hours, but the story does not resolve!? It's like the first episode in an ongoing space series, which simply does not seem worth the time!

In the book Ruins of the Prime Ones, author James David Victor begins the Sentinels series. Captain Melias Volery is a Sentinel, a soldier that travels the galaxy protecting those that cannot protect themselves, for the right price. But have they taken on more than they can handle when rescuing a group of scientists from the Prime Ones? And who are these creatures? And what power do they have over the minds of others? And how can they stop them? This is a great fast-paced action packed story. It was very short but engaging. I would recommend this book. The audio-book narration was very good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Nifty little universe that has been created here in a short story. Lots of potential with the characters of the main team. The world building is well developed and thought out, and I imagine that it will be fun series once we get more content. Lots of action, fun dialogue and plenty of lore for packed into a very digestible length.

Wow, this was bad. Not just meh, I'm not enjoying this Firefly-styled novel as much as I'd hoped, but total cringe. I think a lot, but not all, of it comes from the fact that I have the audiobook version. The narrator is terrible, confidently pronouncing his lines like he's trying to reach the back of the theatre, and making women sound like lisping cartoon characters. I actually giggled at one point where a male character thinks about how much he enjoys listening to one female character's voice, because to us she sounded more like Daisy Duck than Angelina Jolie.
This is a short novel, only 4ish hours and the story builds but does not resolve. It's more like the first episode in an ongoing space series, one which I will not continue.
Thanks NetGalley for the book. I really wanted to like it, but honestly the audiobook needs some serious work.
