Ms. Shen always told fans that we wouldn't get a Bailey and Lev story unless they spoke to her. Well, spoke they did! Our two seemly perfect characters do have flaws. Both are trying to please their parents by being the "good ones" - Bailey fulfilling her mom's dream of being a ballerina and Levy playing football cause that's what expected. But Levy really wants to attend the Air Force Academy and Bailey's body is failing her and painkillers are the only thing keeping her going. They both need to admit some hard facts to themselves to go on, but can they find their way back to each other?

I genuinely enjoyed Bailey and Lev’s story so much! I do think there was a disconnect between the voice in their story versus the other legacy kids books. Maybe it’s because it’s been awhile since the original release of those books or that LenoraVaughn were the last ones I read and they were both just out of high school. I’m not sure, but at times the language felt to situated in modern internet lingo and it took me out of the story a bit! But, I still want to say that I loved both of these characters. I especially love when a female character goes through a major change and isn’t always “stereotypically” likable. Her struggle with addiction was so heartbreaking and yet I was there for her every step of the way, just like Lev. Finding someone who loves you through the worst period of your life is so rare and yet, these two people messed up from time to time but always found there way back to each other. As my final read of 2023, it was one to remember.
I was excited to read this book, and it was definitely entertaining, but it didn’t live up to the hype. I did enjoy seeing old characters from different series, but I didn’t feel much of a chemistry between the main characters. It had the structure for a good romance, but not the same level of emotional chemistry I hope for in romance books. Otherwise, it was a fun read. The plot was engaging and enjoyable.
