This is a delightful story to help children understand why something that can hurt so much is so important. This should be read by every child!
Big bee lover here, so I quite enjoyed this book but... Sometimes the writing was too chunky and too long and harder to follow by the little ones. I also don't like it when picture books repeat illustrations - it's such a tiny book and the big part of it is the art, so just make a new drawing, please. I also wishes the bee illustrations were a bit more fun, have the bees do fun Easter egg things that the little kids would laugh out and enjoy pointing out.
But hey, good book about why bees are amazing.
Well-intentioned lesson in bees, dressed up as a kid angry that he's been stung by one having an info-dump from a caring aunt. As they have a nature walk the superlative stats and what they do for our food supply comes out, and lo and behold bees have a new fan. It's a very early reader – although you don't have to be any age to ask how the bee can have five eyes when the cartoonish visuals here never show that. It's fine enough, but hits a crowded shelf with nothing to imply it could stand out.
I found it very hard to rate children's books so everything is a 5 star read for me!!
I really loved this book, the illustrations are so beautiful and captivating that I found myself smiling through every page I read.
Nicely laid out book with lots of great facts about how bees are beneficial. It has a great ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
As a parent and beekeeper, this book is a great story to recommend to parents and kids who are interested in but scared of bees.
Adorable art, understandable and interest-keeping story, and lots of great information about bees.
5/5 Stars because we love bees around here! I related a lot to Bennie, who gets stung by a bee and wonders, "What are bees good for, anyway?" I am often afraid of the flying, buzzing insects in our world, but also aware of how important they are to the ecosystem. My four year old and six year old loved reading this book along with me, and all content was age appropriate and kid friendly.
Thank you Nicole Frankel Books for the NetGalley eARC!

Bennie doesn’t understand the importance of honeybees and only sees them as something that will sting him. His aunt, who is a beekeeper, explains to him how bees are very important to the ecosystem.
My fiancé and I are beekeepers, and I thought this book was a great way to explain to children the importance of honeybees. The illustrations are well-suited to the story and add to the telling of it. My nephew thought this book was great, so I’ll read it to him again in the spring when the honeybees are out and about.
Thank you to NetGalley and Nicole Frankel Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #WhatAreBeesGoodForAnyway
An unBEElievably cute book about bees and how important they are! I chose this book because I'm afraid of bees, and I don't want my toddler to be!! He was drawn to the adorable pictures and enjoyed when I exclaimed "unBEElievable!"
This is an informative children’s book about a boy who hates bees. He learns why bees are useful. I recommend this book.
Very cute and ideal for kids 10 and under. It has facts presented in a fun way. And it’s got humour sprinkled throughout. The illustrations are beautifully done.
We really enjoyed this book!
The book was packed full of facts and it was really informative – my 6 year old daughter loves learning and she was hooked by this book and went off to school the following morning to tell them what she had learnt the night before.
This would be an ideal book to have at primary schools as bees have a bad reputation with some from a young age as they don’t know enough about them and how important they are to us
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!
I really like the premise of this book and how it answers a question may kids are wondering. "What are bees good for, anyway?" The book has lots of bee facts, but some of explained better than others. I was confused by the page that said bees have grandfathers. I had to do a little research on that one. I wish it was explained directly in the book. I'm not sure why some of the facts are worked into the story, while others are just on pages towards the end of the story. Not backmatter, but not part of the story arch either. The illustrations are quite simplistic as well. Overall this book feels like a really good draft that still needs some editing and refinement.
Thank you to Nicole Frankel Books and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
My parents were beekeepers so I was very excited to read this book.
What are bees good for anyway? is full of fun and interesting facts about bees. Benny makes the story appropriate for younger children to follow along. The illustrations are great. We will buy this book when we see it.
Thank you NetGalley for the free copy.
Five ⭐️
I read this book with my 8 year old daughter. This is the perfect book for her age. We both learned new facts about bees. Great illustrations and story behind the facts. Thank you Ms. Frankel and NetGalley for my free copy.
I am a beekeeper so I might be bias... I think What are Bees Good For, Anyway? by Nicole Frankel is cute and sheds light on a very important subject that children and adults should talk about. The illustrations are inviting and I can see this could become a very exciting topic for children to want to spread and share with others.
In What are bees good for, anyway? we meet Bennie who doesn’t care much about bees since he’s allergic to them. But his aunt, Beatrice, works with bees and answers his questions and in return he gets to learn more about the importance of bees!
A great picture book for young readers to learn more about bees. I certainly did! Easy to learn facts and beautiful illustrations, this is a book I would recommend!
Happy reading!♥️
I got this book for free from netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
We’ve all heard that bees need to be protected as they are so important to our ecosystem. However this doesn’t keep children from being afraid of being stung by a bee. This picture book shows the reader reasons to respect the awesomeness of a tiny bee. As an adult reader, I learned more than I ever knew about bees and appreciate them more.
An enjoyable book that shows the various ways that Bees are important. Includes some great information and interesting details about bees and their lives. Also should show children that they shouldn't be afraid of bees and that if treated with respect bees are perfectly safe. The illustrations are wonderfully colourful and should keep a child's attention and interest.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
Learn all there is to learn about bees! 5 🐝 A honey of a book about why bees are important to us. There was so much even I didn’t know about bees until reading this cute illustrated kids book. For anyone who enjoys learning new things, this is a great book.
