This is a really well conceived idea for a cocktail book. This would be the perfect gift for a new couple.
Gorgeous book - love the drink recipes and the accompanying ideas for date nights - or for a group gathering, the recipes could easily be scaled up. Great entertaining resource book.
Stephanie Wahlerβs ππͺπ―π₯π³π¦π₯ ππ±πͺπ³πͺπ΅π΄: ππ°π€π¬π΅π’πͺππ΄ π§π°π³ ππΈπ° is a very charming mixology book. I love making cocktails for myself and my husband, so I was very interested in checking this out and trying a few recipes without having to adjust the ingredient amounts. The book is divided into several date categories: A Classic Dinner Date, Game Night, Cozy Night In, Summer Lovin,β The Morning After, Holidays & Special Occasions, and Double Dates. In addition to the guides and instructions, there are striking, vibrant drink photos and some fun, cute couplesβ activity suggestions. I have made a few of the beverages and am keen to mix some more. ππͺπ―π₯π³π¦π₯ ππ±πͺπ³πͺπ΅π΄ would make a nice engagement or bridal shower present for a loved one who enjoys a good cocktail. Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book of cutesy drink recipes and date ideas. While entertaining, most of the drinks are something I might make once, if at all. The inclusion of the date ideas is a nice touch.
A delightful book not just of cocktail recipes for two, all of them a wonderful mix of silly and romantic in their twists on the usual names, but also full of fun ideas for date nights and ways to keep the passion going.
This is such a cute book and a cute concept. And I really love the moody, grainy, vintage vibes. I know my resident bartender is going to eat this up, and I can't wait to enjoy the spoils of his labor.
This is a really cute book! Aside from the couple-talk, which isnβt something I enjoy, the reason this isnβt 5 stars is that none of the fun recipes I found could be made without a trip to the liquor store. As someone with a large assortment of liquors with a ride range, that was disappointing. However, I will be purchasing this book for the beautiful imagery and typography alone!
This book would make a great wedding gift for anyone in your life. The drinks are unique takes on familiar recipes, so readers can easily find something that they would like. I enjoyed that the author also included ways that you could make a whole, themed evening of sorts out of the drinks (think game nights, movie nights, music, etc). I will definitely keep this in mind as a gift for friends and family getting married, coupled with a bottle or two to fill out their bar. I think it could also be a cute alternative to a guest book - guests could write notes to the couple next to drinks they think would be great and add too the creative date night ideas that are already suggested.
I love this book and think it's so cute for couples! It would also make a great addition to date night with 40 recipes on different drinks. I also appreciated how the author included essentials to stock your bar because I needed that guide! The photos of the drinks are also inspiring me to elevate my drinkware and try more drinks out. This book would make a great gift for friends as well!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. I received a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review
This book is a charming compendium of craft cocktails to spice up your next date night, featuring inventive ingredients served in vintage glassware presentations.
A former bartender shares some of her favorite drinks - for two - and some great activity and dinner ideas for couples to go along with the cocktails. She has organized the chapters by type of dates and date night ideas - very inventive, not just a recipe book. She uses vivid descriptions for the drinks and the photos of drinks are very well done (by Bobbi Lin).
Some extras include a home bar stocking list - spirits, mixers, garnishes, barware and glassware. She included both English and metric measures and the index allows you to find just what you're looking for. She also included recipes for several homemade syrups that were used in some of the drinks on these pages.
I enjoyed the lists of date night ideas and other suggestions throughout the book, including a romantic playlist, 10 questions to foster conversation for couples, and even ideas for a low key Valentines date night.
A very enjoyable and informative book - now I have to go make "A Couple of Old Pals". Cheers!
I loved this cocktail book!! The drink recipes are easy to follow, delicious and look amazing. I love that the book is made to be enjoyed with a partner and all of the recipes makes two drinks. It really is great for a date night. The book also includes fun topic/questions to ask each other, playlist recommendations, movie recommendations, etc.
I will be purchasing this book as a coffee table book as well. The photos are just stunning!
Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was such a fun cookbook to read! Witty prose, beautiful pictures and straightforward recipes make this a great book for those looking for tried and true recipes with a twist. I also liked the date night angle of the book although it felt a little generic which was disappointing because it could have been such a unique aspect of the book! I didn't learn anything new from this but I also have a large collection of cocktail books already. I would however purchase this as a coffee table book or a gift for a friend looking to expand their cocktail making skills.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute cocktail book. The focus is definitely on the drinks and less on date-night stuff. There's a few ideas throughout that seem sort of generic like game night and sharing music and that's about it.
The drink themselves are generally easy to make and have a variety of liquors. There's helpful instructions on how to make them and they're easy to scale up if you want to make them for a bigger group.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for giving me an ARC of Kindred Spirits.
This book was fantastic! It had both the classic drinks and a wide range of new drinks that I have never tried. The book has been enhanced with some amazing additions, like a playlist, suggested movies, and stunning images!
I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the idea, the name of the book, the content...all great! I love the idea of different drink ideas for different nights...Game Night, Netflix and Chill Night, Summer Lovin'....all fun! And I love that there's added Playlists, Questions to ask each other, Lists of Movies to watch, Arts & Crafts...all things I would do.
But, I'm not crazy about the pictures and the "coloring" of the whole thing. It just feels like a bad filter on Instagram. The pictures don't make me want to actually try any of the drinks. They all look...well, like sad pics from old 70s recipe books.
Maybe I'm just not "cool" enough for this book. But I do plan on trying lots of the recipes! (I just won't look at the pics lol)
I loved Kindred Spirits! I thought it was such a fun quick recipe book and loved that the recipes were created to make two drinks. The photography was beautiful and I loved the inclusion of actives that paired with each themed section. I think this would make a perfect gift for friends who love to host and entertain or just a sweet housewarming gift.
This is a great cocktail book with not only classic recipes but twists on well-known drinks. I enjoyed the addition of game night and activities and this would make a great hosting gift!
Overall, I enjoy the concept of this book. Some of the things I enjoyed include the cutsie names for the cocktails, the descriptions of the drinks, and the way the chapters are organized by the type of date night you are having. There was also a nice variety in types of drinks presented, including many classics.
I also liked the idea of the sidebars with recommendations for movies and games, et cetera, but for me personally, those fell a little short, only because they felt a little generic and not particularly inventive or fresh. I was also torn on the aesthetics of the book. I really like the classic vintage vibes, and I can appreciate that much of the photography is meant to capture that. However, some (not all) of the photos felt plain and out of focus, and they didnβt make the drinks seem particularly appealing or appetizing.
In the end, I think I would return to this for the drink recipes but I donβt see myself utilizing the sidebars.
This is a great cocktail book! I loved the design of it and the photographs used. The date night suggestions that were included were a fun addition to he recipes. The cocktails in this book include some recognizable favorites with some new ones I have never heard of. I will be buying this when it is published!
