I really enjoyed this book! I feel like sometimes fantasy feels slow, but the pacing of this was perfection. There's not a single moment it lagged or that I was confused. I really loved all of the characters and I'm excited to see where the next book takes them. I did not want this book to end. Definitely worth the read if you're into fantasy romance.
So good! Originally the premise had intrigued me but by the first few chapters I was completely sold. The world-building was fascinating and gave me hints of different fairytales throughout. I found myself really liking the characters and am very interested for the next book. I will warn it ends in a cliffhanger!
I firstly would like to say thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this arc, as it was my very first.
The start of the book drew me in, the premise seemed very promising and not one that I have seen before. I think if the story had a slower burn for the characters fated mate realization it could have been great! I felt as though it was a bit rushed, and there wasn’t a ton of buildup. I found it a bit harder to connect with the characters due to the multiple POV’s, I think sticking to 1-3 perspectives could have held my attention longer!
Overall the writing style was excellent, and I would love to read more from the author.
Life and Death are two sides of the same coin. Could you find it in your heart to love the unloveable? What if the world depended on it? True love can break any curse. The deadly knight and his white witch are destined to save the world, as long as they can survive each other. The cliffhanger that we are left with leave you yearning for more. I can’t wait to read the next one
Passionate and dark, loved the deep & spellbinding theme Matthews created between Life and Death. Great writing and fantastic imagery.
Thank you Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the digital ARC!
First of all, I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me the opportunity to read and review The Deadly Knight Rises.
The premise of the book sounded really promising and I did have high hopes for The Deadly Knight Rises. This was my first R.C. Matthews book I've read.
While the plot was interesting, and I found the idea of cursing someone defying the gods by turning him to Death quite intriguing, the other parts were lacking a bit to me. Especially, the romance part. I feel like we went too fast from loathing, hate to passion and then to love. I felt like we needed more time and development between two main characters.
Still, I did enjoy this book and would gladly continue the series. I would recommend The Deadly Knight Rises to anyone who enjoys more of a dark romantasy, retellings (Beauty and the Beast) and fast-paced plots.
This is my first book from this author, and it won't be me last. I'm definitely looking forward to the release of the next book in this series as this story ends with a cliffhanger. This story is action packed from beginning to end. Queen Devina of Shroundthaven has heard rumors that a sorcerer in Glenarm has been able to grow crops successfully during the never-ending Winter and she's determined to have the sorcerer grow crops to feed her army for her fight against King Cedric. She sends General Derek Tate "Death" and his trusted soldiers to bring the sorcerer to her but a secret between father and daughter leads the general to take Lunos Beckett thinking he's the sorcerer and not his daughter Linora, the true crop grower better known as the "White Witch". General Tate is special in his own way as his punishment has turned him into bones and is touch is deadly. Deadly to everyone except Linora, which surprised them both. Linora hates Death, yet he wants her, but the Queen isn't so willing to lose her biggest asset in her war. There was never a dull moment in this story that's filled with suspense, twists and turns, suspense, betrayal, secrets, surprises, both heartfelt and laugh out loud moments, and steamy scenes. The cliffhanger ending of this story definitely left me wanting to read the next book in this series and I can't wait to read what happens next. This book was a fantastic start to a series and it's one I will be recommending to my paranormal romance book loving friends.
Plenty of action and chemistry that has you turning the pages and some adventure to keep things interesting. A recommended read!!!
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.
