_Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects_ by Jessie Van In is a great resource for beginners and experienced crocheters. There are good tutorials for basic and more complex techniques. I also like how instructions such as crocheting the eyes and joining pieces are given along with techniques in the first part of the book, and then referred to in the patterns. The projects are also adorable!
That was a very cute book. Short and to the point. Loved the adorable critters especially the OWl. Very detail is well described.
Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects is a handy little craft book that teaches you to do exactly that - crochet reversible amigurumi. The book also teaches you how to sew with fur/feather/chenille/eyelash yarns in a way that won;t make you tear your hair out. The author is very clear that these patterns are designed to teach you how to work with fur yarn, and that they will not be easily translated into "normal" yarn.
The first half of the book is all about technique. In a refreshing change, the author has included international measurements/yarn weights/hook sizes, and a cheat sheet ofabbreviations used in the book. There is the assumption that the reader knows what they're doing, so while there are extensive, detailed descriptions of techniques, the basics (how to do an SC, DC, HDC etc) are assumed. The instructions that are included however, are clear, well laid out and accompanied by clear photos.
There are pages detailing how to work with the fur yarn to the best effect (note: the copy I had included a small error with the images in this section), instructions on crocheting eyes, steps to assemble challenging shapes, steps to join the reversible items, and many other useful tips that will transfer across to every day crocheting.
The projects themselves are cute and fuzzy! The instructions are well written and easy to follow, and include options for making non-reversible creatures as well as reversible ones. The most complicated part of these projects is the assembly, as some piece are quite "bitty".
The fur colour choices in the book weren't necessarily my cup of tea, but overlooking that, this was a really good book for learning to work with fur yarns in a fun way.
~ Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~
Thank you publishers and Netgalley for this digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was really looking for books about crocheting and this has such cute patterns. Can't wait to make them all!
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I loved this book! A must have if you love cute animals and crocheting! Also, I think this pattern book will make the perfect gift! This book has such creative patterns! The nature of these patterns, being reversible amigurumi, might make them difficult for a first time crocheter, but I promise if you've ever done any crochet projects before you'll find that this book has pretty clear instructions with helpful tips and glossaries. The pictures that demonstrate the techniques are very nice additions! I was very impressed with this pattern book!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. These are really neat little animals. I loved how the author shows details on how to do the eyes. These would be perfect gifts for babies and kids. The directions seem easy to follow and the photos are beautiful.
Oh my, there are so many cuties in this book ! I love that the eyes/nose are all crocheted/sewed/embroidered and we don't have to find safety eyes the size of the project. For beginners, the beginning of the book has tons of tips to help.
Thanks to Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
A cute and innovative way to make amigurumis. I'm obsessed! The fuzzy yarn is not that easy to use but it's worth the effort. I got a digital copy but I will buy the print one once available.
This is such a fun concept. I find the instructions easy to follow and the accompanying pictures are great too. The instructions look good on both my phone and my kindle which is great.
This was a really cute book with simple to follow directions and great pictures. I am a very visual learner so the clear pictures really helped. I especially loved the way that this book teaches you how to make your own eyes, they are so cute and easy to do!
Reversible toys have always intrigued me and some of the ones in this book are downright adorable. Pollen the bee tucks into his own hive and is my absolute favorite. Others make a little less sense -- the otter flips into a squirrel? (The book's description described an otter that turns into a seashell, which sounded a lot cuter!)
All of the patterns call for fur yarn and the author does a great job of describing the density of different brands and which will work well with which patterns. There are also instructions for crocheted eyes, which are not only absolutely adorable, they eliminate the safety issues presented by plastic eyes.
It's definitely a fun book.
Wow! What a cool concept! I have been crocheting since I was about ten years old, and I've never seen a book quite like this. I love it in theory, though I do think the cover and photos at the beginning of the book could do a better job in really showing the different sides of the reversible patterns, as it's not super clear what the reverse sides are until you get to the individual patterns. I'm not a huge fan of using fluffy/chenille types of yarn (what can I say, she's a standard acrylic/cotton type of gal!), so I do wish some of the patterns showed acrylic variations instead of all of them having the fluffy yarn, but that's a personal preference.
