Beginning is a little repetitive and made it hard to stay engaged. The same conversation was had multiple times. Most of the book were beautifully written, just the same repetitive conversation distracted from that. The plot improved towards the end but Adelaide kind of rubbed me the wrong way but maybe that will change as I continue reading.
Great story line, there’s a really good plot within this book so long as you can persevere through the detailed world building and the travelling at the beginning. While it’s detailed, it does help to set the scene and enables you to get an understanding of the situation, the characters, motives etc.
I thought this book okay. I will have to admit that I ended up not finishing it (about 50% through), due to the lack of character development. I felt the story was rushed and was confused on how strangers became friends so quickly. The world building was subpar. The storyline was good and had high hopes but unfortunately just not my style of book.
"I couldn't see you wounded in such a way, even if you deserve it."
Plot: Adelaide seeks revenge on the King and prince of Klinhun after her sister dies. Prince Elias wants to convince her that legendary dragons exist. While they journey to Dhalion, there are many obstacles they must face. Will Adelaide overcome her hatred, or will Elias succeed in convincing her?
This is a YA novel perfect for people who love:
• Dragons
• Enemies to lover
• He falls first
• Rebellion
• Secret identities
• Fierce Female MC
I found the beginning to be a little slow, but once I made it halfway through, I was drawn in. The main male character, Elias, started to really grow on me. I loved his attitude and charisma. He also stands up for and protects Adelaide. The ending had my mouth falling open and tears in my eyes. I don't know how the series is going to go on, but I'm curious.
I recommend this to new YA readers who are interested in entering into the world of fantasy. There isn't any spice, but their relationship is so sweet.
The world building is good. I enjoyed the pace as soon as the book got half way. I thought the characters were lovable.
I would have lobed more time to get to know the Prince and his kind more. And I felt like there could have been more time given to the side characters like gunter to justify his actions.
I am interested to see where the story goes from where Ade was left off.
I liked it over all however it felt a bit repetitive to me so I had to put it down a few times before I ended up finishing it. Outside of that it was a nice read that I liked.
*Side note that I received the ARC in exchange for an honest review*
This book took me quite a while to get through honestly- I think mainly because the first like- 3/4 of the book is pretty repetitive with lots of traveling. There are some good plot points and world building happening, but repetitive non the less. It’s also more of a Y/A book as well, which I feel didn’t keep my attention as well, as the character lean more towards a younger mindset as well. Shifting pov made it harder to read at times as well. Plot twist at the end caught my attention as well, but I’m not 100% certain I would prioritize reading a second book over other options.

This book even though the spice wasn’t there was quite captivating. It was beautiful to see the relationship evolve. The whole story was a new take on dragons and the fantasy surrounding it.
I couldn’t be happier with the way the book was beautifully written.
I never could’ve seen the ending coming even if i tried. I hope there is a sequel for this novel. There were so many unfinished story lines
I really like this book overall but if left me feeling a little disappointed at the end. The world building was fabulous and the overall set up of the story was faultless. It started to feel a little slow and repetitive as the book went on. I really enjoyed getting to know the two main characters and watching how their relationship developed. I just felt as if the entire book was building up to something big but the ending was rushed and lacking I felt. Overall is a lovely read, I just wish the ending gave more.
"The Gift of Dragons" by Rachel A. Greco weaves a gripping tale of intrigue and loyalty as Prince Adelaide grapples with the decision to overthrow the king who failed to protect her people. The inclusion of dragons adds a unique twist, elevating the suspense and delivering a well-crafted, entertaining plot. Greco's storytelling captivates fantasy lovers with solid characters, a perilous world, and fascinating dragon lore. The sudden yet profound ending leaves a lasting impact, making this a recommended read for those seeking a blend of revenge, allegiance, and mythical adventure.
I was gifted this book for an honest review and I give it 3.5 stars.
This reads like a YA fantasy with low end epic fantasy aspects. There isn’t major, hard to understand world building but there is a lot of traveling going on for the first 75% of the book with stuff happening but not a lot happening at the same time. Being YA the characters make dumb decisions but that’s what they’re supposed to do. Whatever you do, don’t think this is a Romantasy even though there is a slow burn love interest in it. The ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger and I don’t necessarily like what happened.
The book is written in 3rd person with a few different POVs. The timeline can get a little confusing as one POV could be a few days ahead of the others. I felt like chapter 1 was a better prologue than the actual prologue was. Not sure if it was because I got the downloadable EBook sent to me but the font and spacing changed every once and awhile but that may not be something that happens if you download the book from Kindle or the library.
Although it was predictable, I did enjoy the story. The characters felt a little 2-d to me. I never really felt fully connected to them. I also didn’t care at all for any of the side characters. It’s like they were just there to progress the story but they had no real point. I will however, probably read the 2nd book if it’s not overly long. I liked that this was a shorter fantasy.
The cover though! Gives Game Of Thrones vibes! It’s lovely.
I was initially intrigued by The Gift Of Dragons solely by the fact that it had, you know, dragons in its title. So unexpected, right? But this book was so much more and I'm thankful for the title because it got me into reading this book. I enjoyed the plot, the pace, the characters, the inspiration coming from the feudal system and all its faults, and of course, dragons 😁 And the cliffhanger, I was left speachless... All I can say is I hope there is more to it that it was shown at the end of book 1.
I need book 2 ASAP, so I can see for myself what will happen next 😶
