If you’re a fan of Katherine Ryan’s comedy &/or podcast then you’ll love this teaser from her biography.
This chapter tells of her she first met & reconnected with her now husband, told with her usual dry, no nonsense humour,

Short, smart and autobiographical, this one's absolutely hilarious. This is about Katherine Ryan's love life, her navigating her ways through the treacherous path of relationships and finding love, when she hoped for none.
Dotted with funny anecdotes, some weird ones this one can be read in under an hour or so. I would have really appreciated it being longer and having more substance. Nonetheless, a great way to spend an hour or so. Think a layover, doctor's office etc. People might stare at you for laughing out loud if you read it at public places.
Funny and fast-paced reporting of one woman's experience navigating relationships as a comic and mom to a young child. I found myself smiling and chuckling out loud, but really missed the aspect of a story arc and seeing the internal character development as she navigated relationships with some crappy dudes and discovering herself.
A short but sweet (and funny!) account of someone who never intended to get married, but found love anyway.
I have always enjoyed Katherine Ryan's work when I see it, and this book was enjoyable but slightly off at times.
Short and sweet, I really enjoyed this look into Katherine Ryan’s earlier years. A quick touch on her childhood and then following the voyage through various romances she’s had and the situations that occurred during them. Finally touching a bit on the High School Boyfriend of her title and her family as they are now!
I’ve really enjoyed Katherine Ryan’s comedy in everything I’ve seen with her and this really reads in true Katherine Ryan fashion. I’ve known bits and pieces of her personal life through her comedy specials but this was a nice look into some things I didn’t know, such as her depression and her struggle with a medical diagnosis.
I don't know how else to describe this other than to say the vibes were slightly off. This had sparks of cleverness that I have long associated with Katherine Ryan and her observations, but then there were moments of oversharing that lacked a self-awareness (bragging about crying at the civil partnership ceremony/wedding that you didn't prepare your daughter for to the point that your daughter cried the whole way through is a little weird). The tone also didn't sound like Katherine Ryan to me - which may just be the difference between British panel shows and her written voice, but my only reason to read this was for her voice.
Also, this is such a strange length. Like I really didn't want to read any more, but also this felt like a magazine article or a chapter in a larger collection about relationships.
Just strange vibes.
Autobiographical story of comedian Katherine Ryan's dating life before settling down with her high school boyfriend. This was a short book, and I read it in one sitting. I expected a full-length book, but it was still good. Funny but not laugh-out-loud hilarious. 3 stars.
This novella on dating and parenting infused with humor and relatable stories.
Katherine Ryan takes us from her high school days and heartbreak through her adult dating life to finding love with her high school boyfriend.

2.5 stars // I think Katherine Ryan is super funny and this did still have some of her voice but I think I expected it to have a bit more comedic stories. However it really just felt like an expanded Wikipedia article with some personal anecdotes. Just a long winded story of how she ended up with her high school boyfriend by dating jerks. It was okay - and it was super short, so that’s good - but I think you can skip if you’re wanting something specifically funny. Read if you want to know more about Katherine Ryan’s love life.

Katherine details her many failed relationships, life as an entertainer, comedian, and mother.
Some of her writing made me say, “Yes, exactly!” I even highlighted some lines on kindle. I was hoping it would be a little funnier, and go more into depth about her relationships and her life.
Bobby seems great though.
A very short (it's under 50 pages) but entertaining enough look at the author/comedian's love life from high school to now. Causal in tone, and moderately funny, this reads like if you were sitting down, glass in hand, with Katherine and just mention something like "ugh, dating sucks" and this was her 45 minute reply.
Fans of Ryan's comedy will enjoy this, but given the short length, those looking for an in-depth memoir should look to her other titles.
After watching her show, The Duchess, on Netflix, I couldn't help but become a fan of Katherine Ryan, and she slowly became my favourite comedian. Having learned some of Katherine's life through her comedy specials and finding it interesting, I loved having her romantic history written down for all to enjoy. This was a humorous, quick read that was easy to follow, and I just loved getting to know Katherine as she narrated her numerous romantic relationships. This was a humorous, quick read that was easy to follow. Once I finished it, I knew that I wanted to know more, so I was glad to see that Katherine had already written a full-length autobiography, which I added to my TBR right away!
"My slide to all this mundanity started in January 2019, when I tried to have a one-night stand with my high school boyfriend and accidentally married him instead."
I read this book in one sitting. I almost never do that solely because of time but I could not put this one down. Katherine’s life is very intriguing and I love that she is not afraid to admit her flaws. She is so relatable and I really hope she will write another book. I was happy to see in the about the author section, that she has a few shows on Netflix.
The content of the book was interesting and i found myself able to relate at times. I do think it was a lot of information in a small amount of pages. I would have enjoyed a longer book where more stories were elaborated on.
I love Katherine Ryan and her comedy specials and show. I loved this story told in her unique comedic tone. I only wish it was more than a shirt story!
I loved Katherine Ryan's 2001 book Audacity. How to Accidentally Settle Down feels like a few bonus chapters that they have gifted me from that book. It continues her story as a comedian, writer, and producer living in England with her young daughter. What hooked me in initially was that Katherine Ryan is a Canadian. What kept me hooked was that she is hilarious. This follows her relationship history with her high school sweetheart from first relationship to their second chance romance. Fans of funny comedians should buy this book. Absolutely worth it. Would recommend to anyone who likes laughter.

I've never heard of Katherine Ryan nor her comedy prior to this book. This is a brief novella about her life from high school to present, describing the arc of her high school boyfriend dumping her, only to reunite and marry him a couple of decades later once she found fame and success as a comedian.
There were some humorous anecdotes in the book, but I felt as though Ryan only briefly touched upon several deeper and bigger issues in her life, which probably deserved much more reflection and focus. These include being involved with abusive/controlling/unfaithful men, single motherhood, body dysmorphia, disordered eating/weightloss, and sexism in the comedy world. I think I would have preferred a full length memoir that delved into these areas, rather than just detailing how she and her husband reconnected.

If you know who Katherine Ryan is from her tv appearances or stand up comedy routines this short autobiography will be of interest. This is not a comedy routine but instead a thoughtful and humorous telling of her personal life starting in high school. It goes through her relationships, moving to England, giving birth to her daughter, before she finally reconnects with a high school boyfriend Bobby whom she marries. At 40 pages this is a quick read and while there are several mentions of her career that isn’t the focus of this memoir. Thank you to Amazon Original Stories for the copy of this story via NetGalley.

A surprisingly short but incredibly enjoyable read from Katherine Ryan, featuring her unique blend of raw honesty and wit. This is more short story length than anything else, and I thought it was an extract before I quickly checked that I indeed had a full copy. This had been tagged under Biographies & Memoirs in addition to Novellas & Short Stories.
I’m very familiar with her work in comedy, and read this story in her voice. Those not as well acquainted may expect more outright jokes, but her brand of sarcasm shines through and is plenty humorous for me.
I love how tightly written this was, and how many rich, throwaway lines there were that showcased how full a life she has lived, and how much more she has to share. She also seems to take genuine accountability for mistakes or decisions that could’ve been better made, and meaningfully contextualises them in that time of her life.
A thoroughly enjoyable read that leaves me hoping for a much longer and fulsome memoir from Ryan soon.
