Leah, twenty eight years old, has a condition called akinetopsia; it's eyes impairment which makes her can't see movement - she can capture object, but it's frozen, until she closes her eyes (blink). Despite she's short in her vision, her other senses like hearing and smell are developed more than normal people. She can hear conversations from her surrounding, from her apartment hallway, from her next door neighbours.

After her mother passed away, she lives alone in the apartment. A new neighbour moves in, a woman named Alice. Leah is pretty sure that there's a man came to Alice's apartment and abusing her. Worried about Alice, she then befriended her in a hope to be able to help her, but it makes Leah's quiet life becomes dangerous.

The plot is rather slow but the shady characters within the story made it intriguing, interesting and I can recommend this book for your next reading. 👌

I enjoyed reading this novel and learning about akinetopsia. I liked how the main character was different and learning about her quality of life. It was a slow burn and I found it all came together towards the end with a lot revealed from her father's death to her neighbour. I was confused by the bookstore man having a disguise and then not having one. A tricky read but the ending was worth it.

I really thought I was going to enjoy this book. I hyped myself up for it. It was so good but then it just went downhill. I wasn't really expecting that kind of plot twist but I also wasn't that shocked by it. The story follows Leah who has akinetopsia AKA motion blindness since she was a kid, this mean she can't see movement and it has been like that for about 20 years. One day a woman called Alice moves in next door and with Leah's great sense of smell and hearing she notices this waft of anxiety coming off Alice. She brushes it off but one day she hears something from next door, a fight? After some time Leah became friends with Alice. Leah later found out that Alice was actually a part of quite an unhealthy and abusive relationship. However without going into spoilers Some time after Leah felt as though she was being watched and later blacks out and after she wakes up she feels this sense of a person in her apartment. Overall I would give this book a 2.75-3.05 stars.

thank you to Simon and Schuster Australia for the advanced copy.
3.5 stars rounded to 4.
Leah is a young woman living with akinetopsia - a condition which means she cannot see movement. People assume Leah is completely blind, however she is far more aware of her senses than it seems. Leah lives a quiet, routine life, until Alice moves in next door and is threatened by her abusive husband. Leah soon realises someone is targeting her, invading her space and breaking in to her apartment. As Leah gets more and more tangled into Alice's life, she makes choices that will change the course of her future. This book started off super fascinating, I was super hooked to find out what was going to be the outcome, who had been in Leah's house, and what would happen next. It feels almost like this book was split in two, before the 'incident' and after. Everything that happened afterwards seemed a stark contrast to the first half of the book. Whilst the twist was interesting and unexpected, it seemed a little left field. And all of the revelations that came at the end seemed a bit unusual as well. Despite this, I enjoyed The Silence in Her Eyes, it was a quick read that kept me wanting to read and find out how the story would end.
