And what lies they are! This is a superbly well narrated audiobook of a gripping psychological thriller from Liz Lawler.

The plot is based on an A&E Dr, Kate, who receives the disturbing news that her husband, an airline pilot, is wanted for questioning following a murder in Barcelona. The murder victim being a colleague. In an unfortunate turn of events the husband (Mark) finds himself with a traumatic brain injury after a hit and run collision. Kate is desperate to clear his name, but who can she trust?! As paranoia and suspicion seems to await her around every corner.

This audiobook is such a good listen, the story's told with a fast pace that lends itself well to this epic tale. this is a 5* listen from me for sure!

My thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for the opportunity ti review this book in exchange for an advance copy,

Kate’s husband, Mark, was pursued by the police in connection with a young woman’s death in Barcelona. Then he was hurt in an accident and it was up to Kate to prove his innocence. Were they and their son in danger?

While reading this, I remember thinking that the plot didn’t go as I had expected. Expecting this to deep dive into the husband-wife relationship, I was surprised to see it was less about the couple and more about the mother-son relationship. While things ended up converging nicely towards the end, the subplots felt a bit disconnected throughout journey.

I listened to the audiobook version for this and I must say that I really enjoyed the narration. The suspense came through nicely and I flew through it. I think I finished the book in a day. All in all, a good pop-corn thriller!

Overall this was a good book. I loved the ending fight scene and how dramatic it was! I will admit the cut to the epilogue was a bit jarring and there were times throughout the middle of the book that the story felt a bit drawn out. Overall great listen with a wonderful narrator!

My Husband's Lies

Rating: 3.6/5 Stars

My Husband's Lies is a story wit plenty of twists, turns, and unanswered questions. Just when you think you know one thing, you realize that you have no idea what's going on. Kate is married to Mark, a commercial pilot. mark is accused of murdering someone while on layover in Barcelona. Kate travels there, determined to find Mark's missing watch and maybe discover a bit more about what happened. Meanwhile, Mark's good friend and co-worker Robert, and Olivia, a stewardess and co-worker, take over at Kate's house while she's going around everywhere, Olivia has an extended stay at their house while taking care of their son, and Robert...well, Robert is in love with Kate and has been forever. So the suspects are everywhere. Layers of the onion keep on being peeled away to uncover new discoveries and motivations, etc.

I enjoyed this story and listened all of the way through, but there were some things that I found odd. Mark's refusal to see or speak to Kate, Olivia's being allowed and wanting to start and take care of Kate's son, even though Kate literally just met her...I mean, I have some great people I've worked for, but I wouldn't be offering to essentially move in and take care of their children, even if they were accused of a crime. It was still an enjoyable story that kept me listening until the end. The narration was well done as well and brought the characters to life.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio, NetGalley and the author for the chance to listen to and review this ARC!

My Husband’s Lies is a twisty domestic thriller about a married couple and their son. Throughout the novel the main character is inundated with evidence indicating her husband has been lying about his connection to a murder in another country. I devour books like this with their twists and dark characters. I was bummed I “figured it out” a bit too early, but I can’t think of anything I’d change. I’m going to keep my eyes open for more Liz Lawler novels.

My Husband Lies is the first book I've read/listened to by Liz Lawler. I enjoyed it very much! The narrator did an excellent job! This book takes place over a couple weeks time frame. The main character's husband is accused of murder at the beginning & the wife is trying to figure out what happened. There are twists & turns throughout the book. The ending was done well. I'll definitely look for more books by this author.

*Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher, & the author for an advanced copy to enjoy*

The life of airline employees appears very glamorous and intriguing but being the wife of a pilot can be trying; especially when there’s a history of hiding the truth. When things start getting complicated, it’s difficult for Kate to know who to trust.
I enjoyed the storyline but felt that it started to drag on a bit.
Gabrielle Nellis-Pain’s narration of the audiobook is crisp, well paced and very easy to listen to.
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio and Liz Lawler for the opportunity to listen to this ARC

Reading Between the Wines book review #135/115(met goal in Sept!) for 2023:

Sipping thoughts: Ugh you know those characters that do the opposite of what you want them to and sometimes the opposite of what you are yelling at them to do! This is that book. Kate is a very smart A&E doctor but unfortunately those smarts do not roll over into her personal life to help her make common sense decisions. I enjoyed this book enough but the ending was a little too far from reality, but I still enjoyed it.

Cheers and thank you to @BookoutureAudio and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @MyHusbandsLies.

I have to say it’s one of the best crime novels I’ve read in years! The story has a great plot and the main character takes you through her doubts and fears along with her.

I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns as the plot progressed, almost driving me nuts to get to the end and find out the truth.

I will be buying this for our bookshop and recommending to all our customers immediately

Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture for an ALC of My Husband's Lies by Liz Lawler! 3.5. stars rounded up to 4 for NG and Goodreads.

Mark is a respected airline pilot, a great husband and father. So when he's accused of murder while on a work trip, his entire family's lives are spun out of control. Why won't he tell the truth about where he really was that night?

The narrator does a great job on this audiobook conveying the personalities and feelings of the different characters. I did feel this one to be slightly dragged out, but was satisfied with the ending and the writing! I look forward to seeing what Lawler comes up with next - Interesting premise for a book and I was sucked in from the first chapter.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC and the publishers. Liz Lawler is a new author for me and I really enjoyed this book. I plan to read more books by her. This book had me guessing all the way to the end. I liked how she would lead you down one suspect and than go in a completely different angle. This would be a great book club read.

This is a gripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist. I really liked the way the story was structured. When I chose to read this book, thanks to the title, I had a preconceived idea of the husband. I thought it would be an adultery story, or something like that. And don't let the title fool you, because the story has nothing to do with it. The antagonist of the story isn't even the husband. And this is one of the reasons I was surprised by the story.
This husband, so loved by everyone and a renowned pilot, is accused of murder. There is irrefutable proof that it was him. What had happened? You'll have to read it to find out.
The author's writing is very simple, and although one of the characters is a doctor, and part of the action focuses oory.n the hospital, the language and concepts used by the author are easily accessible, even for those who don't know anything about medicine. I highly recommend it. And I am grateful for the opportunity that Netgalley gave to me to learn about this story.

This audiobook was very interesting for sure, and kept me hooked the entire time. I do think it was a bit predictable at the end but other than that I really enjoyed!

I listened to the audiobook of Liz Lawler's My Husband's Lies. The narrator is engaging, and I enjoyed listening to her. The story itself held my attention the entire time. Even though I had a lot of the plot figured out, I was still very invested in finding out how everything would get resolved.

I did feel like the main character, Kate, missed several warning signs, and even when she had a gut feeling about something, she ignored it and made the wrong choice - over and over. This was frustrating. I also felt like the title My Husband's Lies was a bit of an overstatement or misdirection.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this audiobook, and I will definitely check out more of Liz Lawler's work. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kate is an ICU nurse and is shocked when she arrives home after a long shift to find detectives on her doorstep looking for her husband, Mark. He is an airline pilot who is returning from a work trip to Barcelona where a horrible tragedy has happened, one of his former coworkers was murdered and he has been named as a suspect. Kate believes there is no way that Mark would ever be involved in something so violent regardless of how distant he has been acting. Before he can defend himself he is hit by a car, landing in Kate's ICU, in a coma. Kate is overwhelmed and beside herself when Robert, Mark's copilot, and Olivia, a cabin crewmate, show up at her house and step in to care for Kate's son. Olivia eventually moves in so she be around any time, allowing Kate flexibility to be at the hospital. With Olivia caring for her son and house Kate sets out to prove Mark's innocence but the lies and killer could be closer than she ever thought possible.

This was my first novel from Liz Lawler and thought that it was a pretty good thriller. I liked the premise of an ICU doctor working to prove the innocence of her husband, a pilot, wanted for a murder in another country. The story is told mainly from Kate's perspective and has a good pace to it. The parts I found less successful were Olivia's back story and the fact that Kate is thrilled for her to move into the house and start making major changes, nothing suspicious there. I also found Robert motivations to be odd and wanted a better ending. There are some good twists and overall it is a decent thriller that held my interest.

I had the audio version read by Gabrielle Nellis-Pain, who did a great job and was enjoyable to listen to.
