Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the ARC extract of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This story seemed to be setting up for such a sweet and enjoyable winter holiday romance! From the bright and beautiful cover that captures winter’s beauty and magic to the fun lightheartedness of the story, it pulled me right in!
In this extract, we learn more about the FMC, Holly’s, backstory of job loss, and how she ended up at her current job through her passions for food and wine. But we know where she’s at in life isn’t her end goal. We catch hints that perhaps she deserves more than her relationship with George, who we meet drunkenly sprawled on the steps of Holly’s workplace and know. Has a dislike for her beloved cat. There’s more out there for our Holly!
The writing was a little too casual for me, for example, at one point the acronyms “ffs” are used outside of a text message. I feel like it could’ve been written out in full form or normally. Additionally, the writing in some places didn’t flow very well as there were a lot of metaphors jam-packed on one page or kept coming one after the other which would take away from the impact of some of them. However, this didn’t put me off the story entirely as I’m still curious to see what happens next!
So far, I enjoyed the story and I think the excerpt gave us enough insight into who Holly was and is, her and George’s dynamic, while also sprinkling in the side characters who will hopefully come more into play, like Margot. It always is a good sign when those side characters stand out to me or the things they say, as she did!
When I finished the extract, I found myself wishing I had the rest of the story, desperate to know more and to find out what was in store for Holly’s future. Because of this, I will definitely be picking up this book when it is released to see where this story goes!
This title is giving me all the hallmark vibes! I love this cover also. this was a nice holiday rom-com. I have not read this author before and I had actually picked up to this book before seeing on here so I thought this would be a great place for a review. I liked this one, but its not one I would nessaceraly re-read. I did enjoy the food and win descriptions. it was definitely adventurous. but it was just missing something for me to make it a five star. I give it a 3.5/5
*thank you to netgalley for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
5/5 stars
this book was so fun! when the excerpt was over i gasped! i was flipping through those pages so quick, which kudos to the author for making the writing flow so seamlessly. through each page i was hanging onto every detail and waiting to see what will happen next. i already love our fmc!
if you love a cute love story, a journey of self-discovery, winter themed books and funny moments you'll love this book :)
5/5 stars
To say that I wanted more is an understatement. I love Holly and I want to see more of her growth in the book. I can't wait to read it.
The beautiful cover of this novel is what initially drew me in, but based on the excerpt, I will definitely be reading the rest of it. This novel gives off a cozy vibe and has a light-hearted feel to it which seems like the perfect read for the the fall/winter time. The author’s writing was easy to follow and the pace was good. I’m excited to see where this story goes!
This was a great introduction to the book, the characters and the storyline sound excellent, the extract I read set the scene well and I can't wait to the rest of the story
I only read the extract, but it seems to be a cute and funny romance book. I'm definitely looking forward to being able to read the book in it's entirety. It has lovable characters from what I could tell, and is set up to be and great book.
I saw the cover and Swiss Chalet in the title and I had to request the Extract. Now, I am intrigued and want to know what happens next. Carrie Walker, your publishing team at Aria & Aries did a great job reeling me ins and giving me just enough to eagerly want the rest!
Holly is at a crossroads. Her life is being packed up into boxed and the countdown to her wedding has begun. However, as Holly relishes her last days in her London flat recalling all the fond memories, she can feel her doubts growing. Is their impending move the right call? Does she really want to leave the restaurant she loves?
What's going to happen next?! I need to know! I have a bit of an idea from the synopsis but I am determined to find out for myself!
The first couple of chapters give a lot of information which set the picture nicely for the rest of the book. Although I would say I found myself rereading the odd line as some sentences were slightly confusing to read and long.
Autumn seems to be a likeable character. It’s nice that her job and main interest is different from a most female lead characters.
I wouldn’t say I’m hooked from the first couple of chapters however I would like to read the rest of this book based on the blurb and what I’ve read so far.
Thanks for allowing me to read this extract!
These first chapters introduce us to Holly- who is engaged to long term boyfriend George (who straight away I am getting mixed vibes from). I’d be interested to continue reading to see the fmc’s journey to (hopefully) more self-assurance. I think the idea of being in a long term partnership that you may have outgrown, plus the quest to figure out what makes you tick/brings fulfillment in life will resonate with a lot of readers!
Thanks net galley for letting me ARC this excerpt!
To be honest, the first couple of pages were hard for me to follow. There was a lot of long sentences and I kept getting confused.
August is a fun fmc, but her fiancé seems very unsupportive and I want better for her! I am excited to see where the story leads and if she ends up leaving him for someone new.
This was an amazing debut novel by Carrie Walker. I loved the character development- you knew everyone and felt like you were there with them. Although I have never wanted to learn to ski- this book had me yearning to experience a luxury holiday in amongst the mountains.
Holly is offered a winter season in a luxury lodge as part of the team. She is hoping to learn a lot from the very talented chef- and he is keen to take her under his wing. There are lots of smiles along the way and mouth watering descriptions of the food and drink.
I loved absolutely everything about this book.
I would give this extract a 3.5 rating. Of course i can't rate it much higher because it was just a 20 pages long and ask it should it was introductory. Despite that, I´ve liked it and I will seriously consider buying the book on amazon so.i can read it fully.
The extract narrates the story of Holly who's about to get married to her 8 years boyfriend, George. They have everything planned for their future, but Holly starts doubting about if she is really the one that has control over her life decisions.
I´ve found this really interesting and I would love to see what I believe would be Holly's journey to deciding what she wants in life. I believe that this plot is something that a lot of people will resonate with.
To my view, this is a really likable book, and I think almost every bookworm would enjoy it. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for letting me read this!
A fun start to the book. It makes me want to keep reading and find out what happens next. Looking forward to the full novel.
This was a very strong start to what sounds like quite a compelling story. I liked the writing and the flow, although a whole flashback to an explanation of how August started as a sommelier felt a little unnecessary.
I loved the author's attention to detail, which gave depth to the story and already made the main character more intriguing. I also loved subtle yet noticeable red flags in George: just nuanced enough to explain how they've been so long together without leaving us wondering why she hadn't dumped him, yet discernible enough to lead to an interesting plot point.
Based on the two first chapters, this looks like promising read! The descriptions let the reader sink into the setting and the characters seem charming!
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries Publishing for the free excerpt in return for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed these first chapters of the book, it has a lot of potential. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!
I have to be honest and say I didn't expect this to be so well written?? Maybe because my prejudice with this genre. But this little extract really (really) surprised me for the better. I can feel the warmth in the author's words. The descriptions are affectionately detailed, without the slightest hint of "omg this is too much just end it". No. Not a bit. And the conversations between the characters felt genuine and SWEET. This really put me in the mood for a cute, heartwarming read for the holidays.
This is a snippet and not a very good one. It does not make the reader want to read to find out more.
This was a cute enough sample. The main character is all set to marry her fiance. But I thought her name was Holly, not August.
Either way, the sample isn't long enough to really give a feel for what goes wrong and causes her to end up in the Alps.
The language is a bit strange for me, so it was challenging to immerse myself in what I was reading.
I may or may not pick it up.
