The pictures are beautiful but the story left some to be desired. I believe children could benefit from a more complex sentence structure, especially when the artwork is ornate! A sweet book overall.

My preschoolers enjoyed the pictures in this one but weren't much for the story. The hen was super cute however.

Agnes is a rather large dog who keeps the chickens safe on the farm. Rosie is one who stands out from the others because she has to do her own thing, but one night that is the very thing that makes ALL the difference!
The illustrations by Clare Therese Gray are clear, imaginative, colorful, delightful, and FUN.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from DK | DK Children via NetGalley. Thank you!

A sequel to a lovely little book I reviewed previously, “Agnes and the Sheep.” Granted, this book is much less Agnes the dog and much more Hen, but the same could be said about the Sheep. Really, these are stories of a cute little farm, and they’re just…cozy!

Rosie the hen is a bit different from the other hens. She dances about, she follows the dog, and she sleeps up in a tree, instead of in the coop. But that last one becomes very important when foxes come at night to eat the hens, and Rosie is able to save the day…er, night!

The watercolor artwork is soft and reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen plates. Just really comforting.

Just a feel-good book about being yourself.

Advanced reader copy provided by the publisher.

This was a very heartfelt book about how different animals and people could be. Rosie realized that just because she wasn’t like all the other hens she isn’t different and she still holds value.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!

I love the classic feel of these illustrations. It reminded me of the books I read as a child. There are so many stories about being true to yourself that this didn't feel original to me. The main character, in this case a hen, is treated badly because they don't act like the others, then they save the day and everyone loves them. That being said, there's a reason there are so many stories like this. The message of acceptance and being true to yourself can't be said enough. Kids will love Agnes's silly dancing and how the hens scared away the foxes.

An absolutely wonderful story about how important it is to be yourself and follow your own tune no matter what. I love the relationship between this sweet cozy dogs and the chickens she protects, and love how uplifting and encouraging the ending is.

In Agnes and the Hen by Elle Rowley, Agnes is a sweet dog guardian to a small group of hens. Most of the hens are orderly, to the point of almost being synchronized, judging from the illustrations. But not Rosie. She dances. She follows Agnes around instead of staying with the other hens. And she sleeps in a tree instead of in the coop. Most of the time, being different doesn't bother Agnes but sometimes, she feels a litte left our or looked down upon. As the story unfolds, Rosie finds that marching to her own drum does provide advantages - to herself and to the community. Lovely illustrations by Clare Therese Gray pair well with the story.

What a cute story, and beautiful illustrations. I loved how the story was very unique, and presents the lesson of not being afraid to be yourself, even when you are different from others. I would highly recommend this to children and those who work with children.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Charmingly illustrated farmyard friends, Agnes the dog and Rosie the hen, become bonded through their mutual affection and unique ways to demonstrate how much they care for each other. Every adult who loves reading to young children is in for a romping buddy read. You will
be transported while turning the pages of this book that will leave you smiling with delight all the way to the End.

Lovely, light illustrations with a sweet story about conformity and being who you are. Not overly complex, so this could be used for older storytimes or one on one readings.

This book has a cute premise, but has too much going on for young readers. I don't think that kids would enjoy this book.

ARC reader for NetGalley

Adorable children’s book about how it’s ok to be different. Great read for those littles that don’t quite fit in with their peers.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I thought this book was about Agnes the dog and how he helps on the farm, but it was mostly about a hen. I'm honestly not sure what this story is about.

What’s not to like about Agnes and the Hen? The illustrations are lovely, the story of friendship and standing by one another is charming and engaging. I will definitely be recommending this one!

My eight year old will get a kick out of this book. The cover itself is so adorable. My sons favorite things are dogs and chickens so he’ll love this cute story.

Agnes and the Hen is a story about a farm dog, Agnes, and hen named Rosie who is not the same as the other hens. After being shunned by the other hens, Rosie's differences end up saving the hens from some foxes.

This was a fun book to read with my son. We have chickens, so he especially loved this story. Agnes was such a sweet pup and I loved how she protected the chickens from the foxes. The illustrations are whimsical and really match the feel of of the book well.
