I am very new to creative writing and thought I would pick this up as I was super curious about writing prompts. I don’t know that I am the type of creative writer who enjoys working on micro ideas in the way this book prompts you to. I do however think it was excellently put together and each creative writer should see if it’s a good fit for them!
Great book for getting creative juices flowing.
As someone who struggles with writer's block, I found this book very helpful. I have been able to knock my writer's block right on its butt and work on my main project.
Over all a great book to help you get creative and write something you wouldn't have considered otherwise.
This is a cool book! I've become something of a writing prompt collector in my life, and I think they roughly fall into two categories: really specific prompts ("write a scene where an astronaut lands on a new planet that looks exactly like her childhood bedroom") and vaguely poetic prompts ("I have spread my dreams under your feet").
This book is more the specific prompt variety. I don't strongly prefer one over the other; both have their uses and anything that gets your creative pump going is valuable. However, I do find that I write longer and with more detail when a writing prompt is long and specific--even if I don't end up creating something that exactly fits the prompt's parameters.
I read an ebook version of this journal (thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a free copy!) and will definitely buy the paperback as soon as it's available. It's so much more fun to flip through a book and choose something at random than to go day by day.
So far I've done about 10,000 words of creative writing using this journal, so I feel I can safely say that it's a good and useful addition to my library of writing books. It would be a great tool for writing groups as well as an awesome gift for anyone who likes to write.
This is a great selection of very diverse prompts that target different aspects of the writing process. I found the selection exciting and inspirational. I'm ready to get started!
I liked this book. I can put my character on different situations and really get to know them. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
Some good and quirky prompts. Ideal for getting the creative juices following and thinking out of the box. Whether you fill out once a day as suggested or as and when you feel you need to be a little more creative in the moment then this is a great little book.
I read through this arc to determine whether this is a project that I want to participate in, and I have to say that I'm extremely excited about it. I may not complete every prompt and I may not finish it in a year, but I'll have this ready when I'm feeling creative and looking for a challenge. This is literally what my Kindle Scribe was made for.
<I>Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Most of the prompts were fun, but others felt like a school assignment that I kind of felt resentful toward. I also wish that there was more space to respond to each prompt.
Some of the prompts were fun, but some were boring, and some felt too specific, so they would be difficult to expand on if the writer wanted to.
This journal is very well laid out in that it challenges the reader to only write enough to fill the space in response to the prompts. The prompts themselves are engaging, fun, reflexive and practical, the varied nature is inspiring
The colour aesthetic is also pleasing, as is the font. This may not be intentional, but it seems to allow the prompts to step back and allow the reader to focus on using their imagination
Finally, at the end, there is room for reflection, a place to ponder on what the reader has learned in completing a year of these excellent journal prompts
I will definitely be adding "One Creative Journal Promt a Day" to my squadron of journals!
Thank you to NetGalley for this fantastic eARC. This review is left voluntarily
Thank you netgalley for an advanced ARC of this book

I'm not a writer or anything closer, but sometimes I write short stories on my phone. This Journal really helps me putting my ideas in order and gives me inspiration.
I will get a paperback too. I'm excited 😊.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
This book is an excellent resource for writers who need a bit of inspiration or structure in their daily writing practices. I’m looking forward to utilizing this with my writing group!
One Creative Writing Prompt A Day : A Journal to Build Your Craft and Unlock Your Inner Storyteller. This is a book full of weird and wonderful prompts. Many of them are on the whacky side so they might not be everyone. For me personally I find the amount of space for writing in books like these very restrictive and would prefer to have many more prompts and information from the author and have a separate writing book for completing the writing. But this is purely a personal thing and lots of people will love having it in this 'write inside' format. I did struggle to find lots prompts that inspired me, but it would be a good challenge to have a go at the whacky ones.
As an emerging writer, I think that writing prompts are a fantastic way to build the habit. I really like the diverse ratings of prompts in the journal and I think it could allow people who want to explore the craft a simple way of honing their skills and creating interesting stories. Many of these prompts function like scenes and could be used to get your creative juices flowing, build backstory and develop characters. There are also a few that are very entertaining and a bit bizarre, which I think add to the experience.
My only criticism is the prompts tend to have a North American focus, so it did require some research on American historical events, cities and neighbourhoods. There are a few prompts that focus on other parts of the world and I really enjoy how they create opportunities for research no matter where you’re located - it’s such an important skill to develop when writing.
Overall, I really enjoyed the format and content of this journal, and it would be a great gift to any emerging writers in your life!
Thanks for NetGallery, Lita Kurth and Callisto Publishing for granting me access to an early access version of this book 📚
