The Night She Died
By: Deirdre Palmer

4 Stars

I started this book thinking it was a thriller, but this was a completely different type of book, and that was okay. It told the story of a boy and girl and their ill-timed romance, but it was also a story about grief. Grief for the loss of a best friend, with Layla and Danni. Grief for the loss of a child, with Reece and Melody. It was surprisingly good, while not being what I originally expected.

I rated it the way I did because, at times, I would get lost in what was past and present. It had moments that just seemed jumbled. I was confused a few times. Other than that, I enjoyed the character development and the book as a whole. It told a really beautiful story with pain, drama, romance, and healing, and did it well. I have to say that I absolutely loved the ending. It was like a light at the end of a dark tunnel.

I enjoyed this book. Liked the writing style. I have read from this author before so it was familiar. I was a basic thriller for me. Thanks to netgalley and storm publishing for giving me this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Such a lot of characters in this book made it quite confusing . A slow start but it turned in to a good story
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC

I expected something else, a thriller, suspense, something other than a romantic drama. That being said, I quite enjoyed this. I wouldn't say it was suspenseful, with twists and turns. No, this was a well-crafted journey of a group of people going through turmoil and emotional pain. I identified with each of the characters, different in their own ways, and my only complaint was that it ended too abruptly.

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being given freely.

I dived into this book thinking it would be a thriller, true crime more than a family drama and for this, I was a bit disappointed. And there were so many character POV/time shift that it was confusing at times. It was still a nice and slow-paced story about guilt, grief and healing. I was quite happy at the end, for her and the parents.

Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for access to this arc in exchange for my review.

Following Layla's journey of grief and guilt was an enjoyable experience for this reader. Romance blossoms in this gentle well written tale that was a pleasure to read. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the second Deirdre Palmer book to review this year. I look forward to the next.
