A different approach by Steel and one I appreciated. Looking at the devastation of Hitler's regime during WW2, this book has you on the edge of your seat and experiencing so many emotions. A good read and hard to put down. Thanks to net galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I couldn’t put it down. But wow just an amazing book loved the happy ending! Such an insightful book! But after reading this I knew it would be a 5 star yet again. Recommend highly! I love all Danielle Steel books I never have not read one I didn't love. Each has a different story but it grabs your interest right from the start. Every book of hers always finds a way to grab at your heartstrings.

This Danielle Steel book does not disappoint. This historical fiction takes place in the WWII era. Sofia's mother is ill and dies, so she must help care for her younger sister Theresa. Their Father is a doctor and owns a private hospital. As the war starts and they are rounding up the Jewish people, some don't believe harm will come. Sophia attends resistance meetings, she helps Jewish children to safety; along with her sister and husband to sneak into Switzerland. Sophia becomes a nurse and joins the convent. Her Father is arrested, and the Germans burn his hospital and house to the ground. Sophia is arrested by association and is sent to a concentration camp. Who can survive? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters.

This book was a little disturbing to me. It told of the story of Hitler and all the people he killed.

Danielle Steel has disappointed me yet. I have read so many of her books and each one is like an old friend. Only The Brave is an excellent example of her writing. A young woman, is faced with unimaginable challenges. Sophia Alexander is the daughter of a surgeon in Berlin and is well respected. She has a wonderful family but her mother gets sick and passes away. Seemingly, Right after he death, Hitler come into control and Sophia’s whole world is tuned upside down. She must protect her sister and care for her father to keep the house moving. She feels strongly about the resistance movement brewing in Berlin. She knows she can get into so much trouble but she also doesn’t want to sit back and do nothing. Times get increasingly tough and it is time to get people out of Berlin. Sophia helps her sister and her husband escape. Her father helps more and more people, illegally because he is no longer able to practice. All of the Jews are in constant threat and it is a horrible time. It ends up that Sophia is left behind, her father eventually gets arrested and taken away to a concentration camp and Sophia must survive. She seeks shelter in a convent and considers all the blessings within. She realizes she can do more than she thinks and she can really make a difference. Daniel Steel is able to take tragedy and find hope. To create characters that are doers and are helpers. You can’t help but get behind the main character and wish her the best. Sophia has every reason in the world to give up but she can’t sit by and wait. She has to act. Who doesn’t love a character like that? This was an excellent, quick read. I want to thank Netgalley, Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine for my copy for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

ONLY THE BRAVE
Danielle Steel, author
Historical Fiction

Starting before Hitler’s rise to power, this book takes you through the end of World War II. This book is about the brave young men and women who helped Jews flee to safety, focusing mostly on children, throughout the war.

While this book didn’t immediately capture my attention, it did not disappoint. It will have you crying one minute and biting your nails in a different part. This book definitely was 5 out of 5 stars for me.

I love a good WWII story, and Danielle writes great ones. Sophia is the ultimate female war hero. She is determined to do anything she can to help the resistance after losing her father and being forced to say get her sister to safety. She’s dedicated to her nursing and helping Jewish children. She takes risks to help the resistance, even risks that put the nuns and others in danger. She’s such a relatable character. A young woman trying her hardest to survive in whatever way she can.

Thank you Random House - Ballantine and NetGalley for my ARC of this book.

As a fan of WWII historical novels, I found Only the Brave by Danielle Steel to be an exceptional read. Sophia, exemplifies bravery throughout the novel. She dedicates her life to nursing as an assistant to her father, a famous surgeon in Berlin. As the older sister, she acquires the role of mothering her younger sister. When Hitler rises in power, Sophia 's family are in danger.. She becomes a heroine to women and to Jewish children. Will she forever put others ahead of her own happiness.

Thank you to NetGalley and author Danielle Steel for allowing me to read this work for my unbiased opinion.
In her latest work set just before the start of WWII, Ms Steele follows a non Jewish family and how they each navigate this tumultuous
time. How each person does what they think is right and how/if they are willing to face the consequences. This is not your typical Steel romance, but so much more. It’s about how one can be in the right and still suffer, how to find those happy gems in the middle of suffering, and how you come out the other side.
I rate this book 4⭐️

This historical fiction book about Germany during WWII, seems to be a litttle far fetched at times. There were several instances where the author repeated what was already said. I can believe a young girl who wants to dedicate her life to nursing and the convent, but that she escaped a concentration camp so easily with 4 other women? Things just worked out too perfectly in so many instances it was hard to swallow.

Another master story from Danielle Steel. Although the story is not unique, the story is heartful and worthy of a read.

A young girl in Germany enters a convent (as a trained nurse) as her father is arrested for not following Nazi orders. Her sister escapes to Switzerland to safely deliver her nephew. The young girl, Sophia, is arrested from the convent as her family history is discovered. The story continues with her challenges throughout the war.

Years ago there was a Danielle Steel book The Promise, everybody loved it. Well this book compares to that. I absolutely loved this book.
Sophia Alexander lives in Germany before WWII. She becomes a nurse and her Dad a doctor. Sophia doesn't agree with Hitler's point of view.
She helps others through the war.
Please read!
Thanks to publisher Delacorte Press and NetGalley ARC.

World War II fiction that does not hesitate to talk about the horrors of the concentration camps. I wish Steel had done more showing and less telling, but this was a compelling read.

I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

This is a great historical fiction book about Wartime in WWII in Berlin Germany when Hitler was ruler and wanted to get rid of Jewish people and anyone who was elderly, disabled, had a sickness, deformity, not in agreement with what he wanted to do/was doing, etc. Sophia Alexander and her family faced a lot of tragedy and heartbreak before and during the war. This is a story about having strength, being and staying strong after losing loved ones and friends, keeping and having faith, helping others, being brave and courageous, Friendships, and finding true love. This story is also a great book about showing how a Country fighting a war faces a lot of loss, sadness, and heartbreak and after the war is over and they won the victory how people work together to rebuild and restart their lives and regain hope for their life and Country again. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for giving me the opportunity to read and review a ARC of this book.

Set in Germany in WWII Steel explores the story of a young woman who was a nurse in her father’s hospital. He was a noted surgeon who would help any patient, regardless of their religious affiliation. But doing so is against the Reich’s rules so despite his medical skills, he and his hospital are in danger. His daughter Sophia finds solace in the sequestered life at a convent. Her sister is radically different. She prefers a flamboyant life filled with parties and socializing. Sophia watches her sister’s behavior with skepticism and opposes the Nazi rules and regulations. As a novitiate Sophia is not as restricted as the nuns and so she leaves the convent to help those in need. She works with others who try to subvert the Reich and save children who are in danger.

The basic premise had potential but the story was a little flat. Characters needed to be more fleshed out and there was an absence of real emotion on Sophia’s part. Her desire for the calm and peace of the convent overwhelmed any real sense of commitment for the resistance. Even her sister was one-dimensional. Though a bit disappointing, the author has a large following and the book will have a large readership.

It was an incredible read that tore at my heart over and over. Sophia Alexander is a nurse at her father's hospital when the war starts. Her sister Teresa is married to a close friend to the Nazi Regime and lives in a lap of luxury until they find out Heinrich is a quarter Jewish and they have to smuggle them off to Switzerland During this, Sophia decides she wants to commit to becoming a nun. Her dad is saddened but gives his blessings anyway. While she is living at the convent, her Das is taken by Nazi soldiers for war crimes. Sophia is working with the resistance to try to save children whenever she can.
This was such an amazing novel that depicted the plight of all people during WWII. I was mesmerized by the hardships Sophia and her family faced during the war. Some instances were shocking, but others I knew about from my reading of other books. It was still, nonetheless, sad. I hope many read this and share with others so that people never forget the horrors of war.

This was a bit of a different story for Danielle Steel. It’s was WWII era. Sophia the oldest daughter of a renown surgeon had to grow up quickly to take care of her younger sister and busy father who wasn’t home much after her mother’s illness. Sophia wants to help people and work along her father so she studies and becomes a nurse. A couple of years pass and her sister gets married to a baron. This leaves Sophia alone a lot at home due to her father working so much and staying at the hospital. Sophia spends dinner time at the convent quite often. She feels her calling was to become a nun and help people.

A couple of nights a week Sophia would be found at the resistance meetings. She helped the Jewish children find freedom from Germany. She even had to help her sister and husband flee Berlin to Switzerland after her husband found out that he was quarter Jewish. Her father is arrested and sent to a concentration camp. The hospital and home is burnt. Sophia does risks it all even her own freedom. There are more surprises with Sophia throughout.

Danielle Steel does a fabulous job portraying this era and all the atrocities! There is a strong female role and lots of courage. There is light romance throughout too. She grabs you in the beginning and never lets you go. You find yourself wanting to know what happens next! There are twists and turns. Also surprises along the way. I just loved this book! I couldn’t put it down! I read it in less than a day! You definitely don’t want to miss this one! A must read!

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers in letting me read this book and allowing me to leave an honest review.

Danielle Steele is an author that has torn my heart apart time and time again. Sometimes her books are too cruel for my taste.
This has to do with WWII, the Jews during the time the Nazis went after them and the holocaust. It’s definitely a book that will make you feel.
I highly recommend it.
