Danielle Steel still knows how to write a captivating love story. Only the Brave is a tribute to love during war and the people who survived it. With wonderful characters and a familiar plot, this was a great fictional story about finding one's self and the trials of humanity. I may need to read some more recent Danielle Steel novels as her writing is always graceful with rich characters. This story came alive and the ending was perfect.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.
Danielle Steel wrote another fantastic book! I have to say for me this is one of her best books ever written! I love historical fiction, especially about WW II, and Danielke did a superb job with this book!
What else can I say, except, you must read this book!!! I highly, highly recommend!
Five plus stars!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
I absolutely love Danielle Steel books.
I love how she has such strong female characters.
Although I general stay away from historical fiction books because this one was by Danielle Steel, I decide to give it a try.
And I found myself enjoying the female heroine in this book.
I recommend this book.
Only the Brave is unlike most Danielle Steel books. and this made me love the book all the more.
Set during WW2, Only the Brave introduces us to Sophia, the book's main protagonist. In the beginning, her mother is ill, her father, a doctor, works long hours, and her younger sister, Theresa, just wants to attend parties. Sophia is the glue that holds her family together. Sophia has fallen in her father's footsteps and becomes a nurse and yet, is also drawn to religious life.
After tragedy strikes the family, they find out Theresa's husband is Jewish and thus, must flee Germany or risk being sent to a concentration camp. When Sophia's father resists helping the Reich in euthanasia, he is arrested, which sets off a series of events leading to Sophia being sent to a camp. From here, we see Sophia's incredible faith, strength, and determination to get back to her family and go her home at the convent.
Only the Brave is a beautiful story of faith and resiliency. In true Danielle Steel fashion, yes, it's also a love story.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Sophie learned to take care of her family when she was in high school. Her mom was sick and sent to a place to get better. Her younger sister could be a handful. Sophie wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life. I liked this book.
A stellar historical fiction book by the one and only Danielle Steele. She again creates a strong female lead who faces devastation during World War II, but uses all of that sadness to rise up to heroine.
Not such a typical Danielle Steel novel, this stars Sophie, a Frenchwoman working for the resistance during WW!!.
I really liked this book. One of my favorite DS books of all time is The Ring and this book reminded me of that. I liked the characters and storyline even though it was slightly predictable. But it was pure Danielle Steel!!
Danielle Steel’s latest book Only the Brave is set back during WWII in Germany. Sophia’s courage is put to the test with her dying mother and her wanting to become a nun despite what her father wants for her. She pursues other avenues and this makes it a good historical fiction that I enjoyed. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. Danielle Steel continues to be one of my fave authors since I first started reading her books in the 70’s.
A story of bravery and perseverance during the challenges of wartime. The main character's resilience to overcome the atrocities and brutality of the German forces and still be useful to society was admirable. A must read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The historical aspect was just enough for it to feel real but not too much to not want to read about it. The main character was very developed and the author had me living her experience through her . I would highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a historical fiction.
I give this book a 5 star rating
Danielle Steel has given her fans another amazing story filled with so many emotions that made me get pulled into the story and held me there from the beginning to the end.
Sophia was a woman who knew what she wanted to do in her life as a young German during WWII. She was able to pull herself through some very tough times and was always there to help others. WWII made her a stronger woman than even she thought was possible. The twists and turns of the story were written so perfectly that I could feel what was happening.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC of the book Only the Brave. This is my personal review.
one of the best danielle steel books in a long time set in the backdrop of Germany pre and during WWII it's a riveting story of survival and finding ones truth highly recommend
Danielle Steel writes many books each year and there is generally a happy ending that you can guess. This time she had me guessing right up until the very end and I wouldn't have been disappointed either way. This story starts with a family that has its own set of sad circumstances and the two sisters, Sophia and Theresa evolve into two very different people. Theresa chooses the glamorous life that includes marriage and children and Sophia chooses to become a nurse. Along the way they both face challenges living in Nazi Germany during the Second World War and while Theresa and her family flee the country Sophia chooses to become a nun and be a part of the anti-Nazi movement. This book illuminates how your choices can dramatically change your circumstances and life. This book was masterfully written and was quite terrifying due to the subject matter. There were some poignantly sad instances as this is wartime, but our main heroine chose the life she wanted to lead and had a happy ending. It is on the shorter side, so it could be read in one sitting if one was inspired to do so.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this Advanced Reader Copy.
This is my first Danielle Steel book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I found it extremely repetitive, especially the first couple of chapters, which honestly was what turned me off.. The story did get progressively better but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
I love Danielle Steel. Starting from the very first book I read of hers which was Palomino. Probably around 30 years ago.
This book did not seem like it was written by Danielle Steel. The story was heartbreaking, as all Nazi era books are. But it was extremely repetitive. Especially in the beginning. There are only so many times that we can be told that Sophia learned a lot by working closely with her very talented surgeon father. There was also a mixup in the naming of Theresa’s children. It just did not seem like something Danielle Steel would mess up on.
I will still continue to read her books, but I hope this isn’t a sign of what’s in store.
Historical fiction is sometimes a hit or a miss with me—I tend to either love them or be so bored I can’t finish them. This latest from Danielle Steel is a CANNOT PUT DOWN book that might be one of my favorite historical fiction books ever. It’s both fascinating and heartbreaking at times but is a fantastic read.
Danielle Steel's newest war novel centers around Sophia Alexander. She lives the perfect life. Her mother runs the household. her father is a successful surgeon, and her younger sister the belle of the ball. Everything changes when her mother gets sick and Sophia is now the head of the household. As the war begins and Hitler comes into power, Sophia's family has choices to make. Her father; faced with his conscience and medical pledge, versus what the Nazi's are asking of him. Her sister, finding the right man and trying to stay or escape to freedom after some unsettling family news. Sophia herself, balancing her fears with her faith, and trying to make the right decision for her.
Likable characters, a gut wrenching story, Steel once again knocked it out of the park!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy. I oftentimes fine DS books repeat themselves so much and don’t provoke much thought. This book was a rare exception. This was a wonderful story following Sophia through her WW2 journey, and while it was hard to read at times, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
