ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN' LOVED THIS BOOK! It was fun, gripping, and sucked me in from the beginning. A total bingeworthy book, so make sure to set aside time to read this one without any distractions, because once you start you won't be able to put it down. This is a podcast-style book which I absolutely love. I loved the MC, the suspense, and how this kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next. If you are looking for a quick, fun, addictive book....this is it! BRAVO, Tintera!

The author grabbed my attention on the first page and this intriguing and witty mystery had me quickly turning the pages.
Everyone thinks Lucy murdered her best friend after she was found covered in Savvy's blood. There isn't any evidence to prove this and Lucy can't remember.
Lucy moved to L.A. when, five years later, podcaster Ben Owens has decided to investigate the case for his true crime podcast "Listen For The Lie". Lucy returns to help solve Savvy's murder.
Full of twists, turns and lies!

Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

If you are obsessed with true crime podcasts, this is the book for you!!

This story follows Lucy, who was accused of murdering her best friend Savvy. Years late, a true crime podcast decides to investigate Savvy’s murder, and Lucy is forced to return to her hometown to help solve her friend’s murder.

I really enjoyed this one! It’s fast paced and has lots of twists - I was glued to this book because I couldn’t figure out what had happened. I liked that we get Lucy’s point of view interspersed with snippets of the podcast episodes.

Lucy had a dark humour and snarky thoughts which kept me hooked, and I really enjoyed her character. However, she did begin to annoy me after a while.

Overall, a fun and fast paced read for those who love true crime podcasts!

This was so good! I love a podcast thriller because for some reason it makes me feel even more like an amateur detective than when I read any other type of thriller. I enjoyed that the main character had amnesia and therefore her reliability was in question. There were times I rooted for her and also times I definitely suspected her. There are lots of characters so your chance of guessing the ending is slim, but I did sometimes get confused with who was who. I thought all the sleeping around was a little extreme and unnecessary and I also thought there was one part of the plot I could have done without. But overall a solid podcast thriller! Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for the eARC!

"Listen for the Lie" by Amy Tintera is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that delves into the complexities of memory, truth, and betrayal. The story follows Lucy, who is implicated in her best friend Savvy's murder after being found covered in her blood. Despite relocating to LA and starting anew, Lucy's past comes roaring back when a true crime podcast decides to investigate Savvy's case. As she is drawn back to her small Texas town, Lucy confronts the ghosts of her past and the unsettling realization that the truth may be more elusive than she imagined.

The character dynamics are richly developed, from Lucy's internal turmoil to the intriguing presence of podcast host Ben Owens. Tintera's prose is sharp, propulsive, and kept me on edge throughout.

"Listen for the Lie" is a compelling mystery that explores the blurred lines between innocence and guilt, that will leave you questioning everything until the final revelation.

This was a fun and quick read. I felt like the author did a great job in making me question all of the characters and their motives. It always makes it interesting when the main character is unreliable. I was always trying to guess who did it. There were a few things that were annoying to me. I was a bit annoyed that everyone was cheating on someone with someone. I know the cheating and some of the borderline abuse or flat out abuse were meant to cast suspicion on characters, but it felt a little over-done and out of hand. I loved Grandma Bev and Ben. They were probably my favorite characters. The way it played it, I hadn’t guessed. It was all wrapped up nicely!

-murder mystery
-unreliable fmc
-podcast format
-fade to black

-TW: domestic abuse on page, murder on page, cheating off page

A fast fun thriller that doesn’t let go. Love the use of a podcast to move the story along. Lucy returns home after being gone for years after the death of her best friend. The town blames her. Ben is a podcaster that ones to solve the cold case. He interviews her and helps her remember what happened that fate filled night. A quick fun read.

I actually listened to this on audio and it was amazing. I love the way this is written, how it goes back and forth from the podcast and from the main characters perspective. The story kept me engaged the whole book and the characters emotions were so real, I almost forgot this was fiction. There were so many time where I thought I had the story line figured out and then I would find out I was completely wrong.

The humor from the main character and her grandmother were unmatched. I do love a good sarcastic character and Lucy and Beverly delivered. It has been a long time since I stayed up late and woke up early to read a book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Tintera and Celadon Books for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

So so good. I was really concerned that I wouldn’t enjoy this because it was so hyped up in bookstagram. But the writing is amazing and the storyline is perfectly done.

Looking for a smart, sarcastic, witty and gossipy thriller? Then this one is for you!

With the now popular podcaster format- the switches between voices and podcast notes was entertaining and captivating. Held my attention throughout. Definitely recommend!

Hold on to your seat because I have a thrilling story for you. Five years ago, Lucy fled her hometown after being discovered covered in blood with no memory of the night before. But that's not the worst part - her best friend Savvy was found dead! Now, she's back and there's a podcast being made about that fateful night, forcing her to confront her worst nightmare. Listen For The Lie is a gripping and snarky mixed media book that I couldn't put down. This fast-paced thriller had me on the edge of my seat, and I devoured it in one sitting. If you're looking for an exciting read, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook version - it's the best way to experience this heart-stopping tale.

This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was completely shocked by the twists and turns and did not figure them out. However, I feel like the format would have been better in audio. I felt pulled from the story having to read the scripts. That said, it was still a really fun read and a great break from heavier literary fiction.

Easily readable thriller with a snarky anti-heroine and a dash of sexual tension with a podcaster guy investigating her best friend's murder. Did Lucy really murder Savvy five years ago? Everyone thinks it's true and now she's back in tiny Plumpton, Texas while a true-crime podcast tries to solve the murder once and for all. This mystery moved quickly, with podcast episodes interspersed, but it certainly wasn't a "world-class whodunit" as Stephen King blurbed. I liked Lucy and her grandmother and even the voice of Savvy, but it seemed like a stretch with all the moving pieces of who was sleeping with whom, along with flashbacks and interviews. If only all unsolved mysteries could be solved as quickly as this-like a Dateline episode!

Listen for the Lie is a fast pace, hilarious “who dun it” that you can read in one sitting and will have you questioning who did it up until the last page.

Lucy and Savvy were best friends - until Savvy is found dead and Lucy is found covered in her blood. Their small Texas town is convinced she killed her, yet the police can’t find enough evidence to convict. Five years later, a popular podcast reopens the case and Lucy - who has amnesia and cannot remember that night at all - finally learns if she did, well…kill her friend.

This book is absolutely incredible - I could not put it down. It was immediate from the first page, I was pulled into the story by the jumps between Lucy’s POV and the podcast chapters, and by Lucy in general. She’s hilarious, snarky, and extremely interesting as a main character - and not knowing whether or not she did it allowed me to determine whether or not I liked (and believed) her for myself.

The supporting cast of characters that help play out this story are also amazing - and normally in these types of books there’s only one or two side characters that really hold weight, but I can honestly say just about everyone you meet holds value to the plot. Also, her grandmother is hilarious. You’ll love her.

I cannot wait to see what this author produces next - I eagerly await her next novel and in the meantime might snatch a copy of the audiobook to relive this one. Five stars all around, cannot recommend enough!

With her first novel for adults, Amy Tintera doesn't pull any punches. This storytelling is funny, witty, and a real who-dun-it. Lucy and her best friend Savvy were inseparable until 5 years ago, when Savvy was found dead, and the little Texas town they lived in turned on Lucy because they convinced themselves she murdered her best friend. And even though she was very obviously there when her friend was murdered, based on the blood she was covered in when she was found not far from the scene of the crime, Lucy can't remember a thing, and there's not a shred of evidence to support her guilt. Lucy leaves town determined to start a new life and put the past behind her, but that's not working out so well. At the request of her grandmother, who is celebrating a birthday, Lucy returns to her hometown to face the rumors & innuendo all over again. Coincidentally, the Listen for the Lie Podcaster is in town exploring the cold case of Savvy's murder. It's the perfect storm for the unraveling of the past and the perfect time for Lucy's memory to return for the gripping ending to a 5 year old mystery. Thanks for the read, Celadon Books!
