I will be shocked if this isn't the best thriller I read this year. My only gripe is the ending, but I can't explain that without spoilers. This was SO GOOD. Impossible to put down and is made so much better by listening on audio as the podcast element really comes to life. Put this in your summer beach bag or download the audio for your next flight!
I loved this book! I read so many of these psychological thrillers and they often feel so similar. But Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera was fresh and fun and a page-turning read! It's part mystery/thriller and part dark comedy. I loved the snarky, sarcastic tone and the dark sense of humor.
Listen for the Lie is about Lucy, who has been accused of murdering her best friend but no evidence was found to convict her. Five years later, Lucy is trying to move on with her life when a podcaster shows up digging into her case and looking for new evidence.
I thought this story was entertaining and unpredictable. There are the classic twists and turns that you would expect from a modern thriller, and I found it really hard to guess what the characters would do next and who could be trusted. I stayed up way too late reading this one because I just had to finish it and find out what was going to happen.
I read a lot of thrillers that I quickly forget, but I think this is one that will stay with me for a while!
“You don't owe anyone your whole story.”
“Some people will never believe you no matter how hard you explain yourself. Trust me, there's no pleasing people. If they're determined to think the worst of you, they will.”
I loved this! Dare I say one of my top thrillers. It was just so fun and funny. I liked that their was both murder and romance 🥰
I loved that grandma f*cked, I loved the entire development of her relationship with Ben. I loved that I couldn’t trust anyone, even Lucy. It was one of the most fun thrillers I’ve read to date! Just a really enjoyable read!
Oh!oh! Oh! The podcast portion was so well done in the audio! I’m obsessed!
Lucy isn’t exactly sure what happened several years ago when she was found wandering the streets of her small hometown, covered in her best friend’s blood. All she knows for sure is that Savvy is dead & the entire town is convinced Lucy is the murderer. A true crime podcaster named Ben is determined to find out what really happened.
Listen for the Lie is a story of small town politics, female friendship, and how victims are portrayed after they are gone. It’s also a story of why we choose to believe (or not believe) someone. This book has a cast of mostly unlikeable characters (except for Grandma; she is clearly the best character in this book) who make questionable choices.
This story is propulsive and engaging the entire way through. I loved the mixed media format; I read on Kindle but have heard the audio is fantastic. It’s dark, morally grey, and laugh out loud hilarious in many places. The pages flew by as I anxiously waited for Ben and Lucy to figure out what really happened the night Savvy died. The podcast element of this book peeled back the many layers of lies that the members of Lucy’s hometown had hidden for all these years. This would be a great one to add to your TBR for spring break!

Thank you to @amytintera, @celadonbooks, and @netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
A book with a podcast element? Say no more! I love books that include mixed media and this did not disappoint! I had heard that Listen for the Lie will be the next big hit so I was excited to get a copy! I definitely think this is a book where it's more enjoyable to listen to the audio! They did a great job with the podcast in the audiobook! The pacing worked well for me and I enjoyed Ben's character and Lucy's Grandma! Honestly I wish I could have more Grandma on the page, she was a hoot! Lucy's character was kind of meh for me, she is very sarcastic but not in a super funny way. Some people enjoy reading characters that are unlikeable and that's really not me. I think towards the end as Lucy goes on this journey I started having more compassion for her. I LOVED how the podcast broke up the chapters and chapters are short so it really flies by.
The only thing that might have helped me is if the author had included a list of characters. At times I had to go back and figure out who was who, but that could just be me! This is definitely a fun summertime, read by the pool thriller and I'm looking forward to Amy's next book!

4/5 stars
Thank you #netgalley for this crazy, fast moving ARC. The reader doesn’t know which end is up most of the time., the narrator is snarky, likable and completely unreliable, and the storyline is creative and new. Pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this one.
Wow! This book kept me intrigued and guessing the whole time. I read this in just a couple of settings, and loved it.
I love me a good mystery! Especially a classic whodunnit. This one flowed so nicely, and I found the main character’s sarcasm pretty funny. Like “well they think I did it, so might as well act like it”, even though she herself has no idea if she was the one who offed her best friend. In comes a podcaster who has put her in the public spotlight, and she loses her job and boyfriend because it was brought to light that she was accused of murder 5 years ago. Hesitant at first, she ends up working together with Ben, the podcaster, to solve the cold case and maybe trigger some of her memories from that night. I was honestly shocked by all the reveals, especially the end.
Thank you Celadon Books and NetGalley for the arc!
5 stars!!
Holy heck!! This was amazing. I haven’t read a book that captivated and intrigued me so quickly and fully, in well, a long time. This a must read.
Bingeable, juicy, entertaining, fun format, well thought out characters, puzzle like, refreshing, and SO GOOD!! It also had funny moments and I really liked Lucy as a character.
I will be thinking about this for a while!! One of the best as of recently.

A comedic thrillers? yes please! I have not read a book quite like this and I have to say I enjoyed it! The MC has this dry sense of humor that really pops when put in awkward situations and this story is full of them! I will say this one doesn’t have a whole lot of twists and turn but it fits the story well and I was hooked from start to end. The MC’s relationship with her grandmother and the grandmothers roll in the story is one of my favorites. I did not call the big twist. This story also ties in love and friendship and all around a great binge worthy ready!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. Wow!!! One of the best books I have read so far this year!!
Lucy is the main suspect of her best friend’s murder that happened 5 years ago and she has no memory of the night it happened. A podcast is interested in the story and trying to figure out if Lucy really killed her friend.
Told from the perspective of Lucy and the script of the podcast, unraveling the events of the night. Loved Lucy, her character was likeable and sassy!!
DEFINITELY recommend!!!!!
This was okay! Written kind of more like a cozy mystery - a small town, a woman who lost her memory returning, did she kill her best friend? She doesn't know, but she sure does imagine killing everyone else all the time.
It's a little quirky with the writing style, which may make sense now knowing this is the author's adult debut. Generally, memory loss is not a favorite trope of mine in thrillers - especially the way it tends to magically resolve itself right in time to solve the mystery.
I also found the MC to be a more passive MC. The podcast segments interspersed through the narrative are what really helped move the story forward vs the MC's actions.
Overall, it was a fine time and a story that I think will have general appeal for most readers.
Thank you to the publisher for granting me access to an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions remain my own.

I loved the podcast element of this story and the flow between the main character and the podcast flowed seamlessly. I did feel a lot of the twists were predictable, but the book was full of humor and that made this one a must read. Even though I predicted a lot of what was happening, it was so fun to get there and would still highly recommend this book. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
I had mixed feelings about this book in the beginning (the main character Lucy seems a bit immature) but ended up enjoying it. I wasn't a big fan of the voice in Lucy's head (no spoilers!). The grandma was amazing and the best character ever. The ending was satisfying.
No matter how many stars I give this book it will not to the book justice. This book was that good! From the very first pages the author sucks you in to the mystery of who killed Savannah? Was it her best friend Lucy who doesn't remember anything about that night or is it someone else in the town who has been hiding in plain sight. Love the story flipping between Lucy and Ben's podcast. So much mystery you will not be able to put this book down once you start! I highly recommend !! Loved the writing style of this author this book kept me flipping pages into the night! READ IT!!! You won't be disappointed!
Lucy and Savvy were best friends in their small Texas town. One day, Lucy is found wandering, covered in blood - and the blood turns out to be Savvy's. Did Lucy kill her? She has no memory of what happened, but everyone in town seems to think she's guilty. Her marriage ends and she leaves for Los Angeles, determined to start over despite feeling jaded and also unsure of her role in her best friend's murder. When her grandmother calls and asks her to come home for her birthday, she begrudgingly agrees, but then realizes that the podcast host of a popular true crime series is also in town - and he's investigating Savvy's murder. Lucy decides to work with him, even though it might mean finding out she's guilty. Tintera's smart, propulsive, and twisty mystery offers readers a lot to like. A rich cast of characters, a strong sense of place, and truly witty dialogue and narration make this a standout amongst the genre. Tintera seamlessly blends podcast transcripts with Lucy's narration, which helps push the plot along at a good clip. Lucy's characterization is smart and funny and flawed, and it's impossible not to root for her, even as readers will wonder if she's really guilty or not. The second half ratchets up the tension and readers will race to find out what really happened. An absolute standout - this one should find fans and is a great option for book groups.
The world's most humorous and snarky protagonist award goes to Lucy Chase!
Five years ago, Lucy Chase was found wandering along a highway, with a massive head injury and her best friend's blood all over her. At first everyone thought she was a victim, until she became the lead suspect. It was never proven, but everyone in Plumpton, TX knows that she did it. Even Lucy herself, isn't quite sure that she didn't kill her best friend, Savvy. She can't remember anything.
5 years later she's drawn back to her hometown for her grandmother's birthday. Her grandma is a lovable, quirky character that you definitely cheer for in this book. The ONLY person that could bring her back to Plumpton is grandma. But meanwhile, she's back in her hometown for the birthday party AND there's a podcaster in town who is digging up the past and has made her life the subject of his newest season, "Listen for the Lie." Lucy is a well-developed character with a snarky attitude that you can't help but love. She meets Ben, the dreaded podcaster, but he's not what she expected. Hijinks occur and romance blooms as the two team up to solve the case, WHO KILLED SAVVY? AND most importantly, was it LUCY?
The story is told in Lucy's point of view and the podcast interviews. It's really well done, funny and dark with a lot of whodunnit vibes. I loved every minute of reading this and it's getting a lot of buzz, well deserved. 4.5 stars and let's get another book from Amy Tintera soon!
This book is fantastic! I love a resurrected crime story, about something that happened in the past and was never solved or cleared up. Incredibly well written and perfectly paced, I couldn't put this one down until I knew exactly what was happening. And the surprise ending was the perfect cherry on top of an already fantastic cake. GREAT for mystery lovers!
This book was SO good! This is the story of Lucy. Her best friend was murdered five years ago and she was there but claims to have no memory of that night. No one has been charged with the crime. Now a podcast is being produced in the hopes of finding the truth. Lucy returns to her small town, where pretty much everyone thinks she's a murderer, for her grandmother's birthday and gets drawn into the podcast in the process.
Lucy was hilarious! She was very sarcastic and had a dry sense of humor that was fun to read. Her grandmother was also really funny and quirky. I enjoyed the tone of the story and the author's voice. I didn't want to put this book down!
My one very minor complaint was that the author used "bark" to describe a laugh numerous times, the overuse of the word became distracting.
Overall I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone! Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in ONE day! it was so well paced + had me hooked from the beginning! I think the twist/solving of the murder was perfect. Our MC was a bit unlikeable at times, but I think that was on purpose. Overall a great thriller/mystery that I will definitely be recommending to people!
