The author does a good job of keeping the reader hooked, with just enough breadcrumbs to keep the mystery going. Enjoyed this book!
A twisty, turny thriller! Lucy is hillarious and dry witted. As someone who uses humor as a defense mechanism I got her. I enjoyed the podcast element, and I think the reveals were perfect. Definitely for fans of Good Girls Guide to Murder, but make it adult fiction.
I absolutely loved this read! Such a fun & cinematic story. I could see this becoming a movie. I hope to see more by this author in the future.

Like many people, the podcast Serial got me hooked on true crime. Five years ago, Lucy was found wandering the streets with a head injury covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood. Everyone in her small Texas town thinks she’s a murderer. Only Lucy has no memory of that night and no idea what happened to her best friend. Now she’s living in LA, where no one thinks the worst of her, when a popular podcaster decides to make Savvy’s murder the focus of his new season. This one was great. The format of the book was unique and the podcast transcript was part of the story. I bet it’s going to be fantastic as an audiobook! The characters were well developed and it kept me guessing until the end. It just came out so make sure to pick it up when you’re ready for a good mystery with a fun unreliable narrator. It’s not to be missed. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Publishers for this copy. It was a good one!
amy tintera the woman you are!!
this was so much fun and a perfect addition to the growing true-crime-podcast-thriller genre. If you're not already a fan of these stories or you're getting sick of them, I wouldn't say this is a *must* read. But if you're like me, and you like a well-produced audiobook for your walks with your dog, you should definitely add this to your list.
I thought this had some of the best-developed side characters I've read in a thriller—they felt like real people, and not just a walking set of clues. The grandma was sooo fun, and I again really recommend the audiobook for all the voices.
Wasn't the most mindblowing conclusion (I loooove thrillers but I'm getting to a point where it's like... there's only so many endings). But I had a really fun time and I would definitely keep an eye out for future suspense releases from Amy Tintera.
And what a TREAT that, in my new tradition of always reading backmatter/author bios, I realized that this was the author of Reboot!! I ate that up on a drive to a seventh grade soccer game and it's so fun to find authors that you enjoy into adulthood.
Listen for the Lie was just the mystery I needed to get my out of a reading slump. I was gripped from the start, following Lucy as she travels back to her hometown where everyone thinks she’s the girl that got away with murder- including Ben, a crime podcaster desperate to interview her. Twists and turns of truth slowly reveal more and more of what really happened the night of Savvy’s murder.
I loved this book! Bouncing between Lucy and the podcast episodes- made for a unique way to meet characters and start to piece the mystery together!
This book was so good! I wanted to know but happened but I didn’t want it to end! I had both the ebook and audiobook. Knowing it had a podcast aspect, I opted to listen to the majority of this book. The narrators, January LaVoy and Will Damron, did an amazing job with this! I would listen to an entire series of books on Ben’s podcast!
I’m not sure what I had expected, but the ending we got was NOT where I saw it going. Which was great. I loved how we slowly got glimpses of what happened based on different views and Lucy remembering little by little what actually happened. There is so much I want to say about this book but I don’t want to give anything away! Read it, listen to it, it’s so good!
This book *earned* its five stars from me. I normally dislike thrillers because they generally aren’t written very well, and it’s pretty common for me to give up after a few chapters. Listen for the Lie is the exception. It was unputdownable and a lot of fun to read. I hope Amy Tintera continues writing adult suspense novels - the genre needs someone like her to remind everyone that it can be done well!
This was one of the most enjoyable thrillers I've ever read/listened to. The main characters inner monologue had me laughing, while all the other characters really had me trying to guess how this one turned out. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
I'm a sucker for a book that has a built-in Podcast, especially if it's True Crime. Lucy's story -- believing she murdered her best friend, Savvy, but not remembering it -- drew me in from the beginning. I knew this would be a tale of discovery as Lucy struggled to remember what happened on that fateful day. Enter podcaster Ben Owens, who is determined to find the truth no matter what it is. Lucy decides to work with him despite her family feeling that she is making the wrong decision. As each podcast episode dropped, interviews revealed more and more of the story until the shocking ending! This was my 3rd five star read of the year and definitely worth the hype!
This thriller had me gripped from the first few pages. I loved Lucy and her sarcasm and sass all throughout the story. In the book, we follow Lucy who is going back to her hometown where everyone believes she murdered her best friend Savvy - but even she doesn’t remember what happened. With a new podcast following the event and discovering new evidence, Lucy and the podcaster, Ben are determined to uncover what really happened. I liked the twists, turns, and glimpses into the story each character brings to the podcast. This was a fun and quick read!
This book kept me on edge for the entire thing. I literally couldnt guess for the life of me who hurt Savvy and was shocked at the ending. I loved the podcast chapters, family drama, BEVERLY- WHAT A GEM, and that there may be a potential future for Lucy and Ben! What a page turner!

A twisted, witty story told from Lucy’s point of view. Found wandering the streets confused and covered in blood, Lucy was never convicted but the whole town believed she killed her best friend Savvy.
And with no memory of the entire night leading up to the murder Lucy believes she may have actually done it. Lucy moved back to her small TX hometown after marrying a guy she met in college. Life was good. Savvy was super social, easy going and working at the local town bar until she figures out her next step in life. That one night still haunts Lucy and the rumors still continue years later when Lucy comes back to town for her grandmother’s birthday celebration. Ben Owens had a great first season on his hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and now he is doing season two on Savvy’s murder. He knows he can figure out the truth of what really happened.
An easy read with great writing and even better characters. So many times I actually laughed out loud at how sarcastic and real the characters were.

Fun and fast paced book. I enjoyed the podcast point of view. It moved the plot along in an interesting way. Entertained by Lucy’s sarcastic sense of humor but I loved the characters of Savvy and the grandmother. I wished they were featured even more in the book.
So good!!! I was hooked immediately.
Lucy, the maybe murderer—she can’t remember if she killed her best friend—is brought back to her hometown once a podcast about the case starts recording 5 years after the event.
I loved seeing Lucy’s candid thoughts, and I really liked how other POVs were shown through the podcast. I didn’t see the ending coming at all which I love!

Thank you very much to NetGalley and Celadon books for this advance copy of Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera in exchange for this honest review.
This one was WILD. I love a good mixed media/podcast element in a book, and this one was so fast paced, and it made it really hard for me to put down! I absolutely loved Lucy’s arc, and I also really liked the head trauma/lost memories aspect, because it had me guessing the whole book if we could trust Lucy, or if she was a cold blooded killer. I did eventually figure out the mystery, but this still kept me entertained nonetheless - Savannah (Savvy) talks to Lucy frequently throughout the book, so I didn’t know if it was going to take a weird ghost story twist, but I’m glad they left her a part of Lucy’s imagination and didn’t make it into a supernatural thing, that would’ve felt weird for this story.
Thank you again to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for this review. This one is a BOTM selection and can be purchased now!
This is a brilliantly written and twisted suspense/mystery with the protagonist being a sympathetic character, even if she is suspected of murdering her best friend. Lucy has returned to her hometown for her grandmother’s birthday party and there has to confront the demons from her past. Since Savvy’s murderer was never caught, an air of suspicion follows Lucy wherever she goes. When a well known podcaster shows up in town to interview everyone and try to solve the case himself, Lucy is put into the unenviable position of trying to solve the murder and take herself off the hot seat. This book is a fast-paced, intricately woven mystery with plenty of twists. I was captivated from beginning to end and really enjoyed getting to know Lucy as she went through the horrors of her past in her quest to absolve herself of the crime. I really enjoyed the style of writing (fast and furious), the quirky characters (especially the grandmother) and the mystery itself was intriguing. This is one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time, so I highly recommend it for the sheer pleasure of following the clues and enjoying the entertainment.

Thank to the publisher and NetGalley for this digital ARC. This was a fun roller coaster of ups and downs and twists and turns as Lucy Chase returns to her hometown where everyone thinks she is the killer of her best friend. . I think the author does a good job of leading the reader into thinking one thing and then turning that on its head. It is hard to write too much without spoilers but I would recommend this one for people that enjoy a thriller with a hint of comedy.
Lucy and Savvy are best friends, sharing everything; the good, bad and ugly. After a wedding they attended, Savvy is dead and Lucy is wandering around with no memory, covered in Savvy’s blood. With suspicion mounting but no hard evidence, newly single Lucy flees to LA. Five years later shes back home in Texas and so is a podcaster who is revisiting this unsolved case and is determined to figure out the killer.
This was a totally addicting and fast paced binge read for me! I enjoyed the friendship of Lucy and Savvy, the small town mentality, and the slow unraveling of the night in question. Some characters were a little snarky (which I loved), some were not all lovable or even likable, but realistic. The addition of the podcast in the writing was fun.
This is one I wish I would have had as an audiobook! I’ve never read this author before, but she’s now on my radar! I can’t wait for her next read!
Thanks to NetGalley and Celadon Books for this ARC. This is my honest opinion
Wow. This is the book that got me out of my reading rut. It was familiar as far as the theme of a podcaster but still so unique to thrillers these days. Can there be a spinoff with the grandma because she was the star for me. Love her
