I loved this edge of your seat thriller and devoured it in one sitting! When Lucy is found wandering, dazed and covered in blood, everyone thinks she is responsible for her friend savvy’s murder. Even she is unsure about what really happened to that night. Then Ben, a true crime podcaster , approaches Lucy. He wants to help her figure out what really happened that night.Together they begin to unravel the mystery. This book kept me guessing until the very end and I didn’t see the twist coming. Told with podcast excerpts from different characters interspersed throughout, it was fun to read. This was one of my favorite reads all year. !

With an opening line like "A podcaster decided to ruin my life, so I'm buying a chicken," I was prepared for the humor in this book. It is also a clever and thrilling mystery!
Five years ago, Lucy Chase was found wandering in the town of Plumpton, Texas, in clothes stained with the blood of her best friend, Savannah Harper. A head injury and amnesia left Lucy unable to recall any details of what happened. Sympathy quickly turns to suspicion in the small town, even though Lucy has never been charged. She moves to LA to escape the scrutiny.

When Ben Owens decides to do a podcast looking into Savannah's murder, Lucy's anonymity disappears and she is reluctantly convinced by her grandmother, Beverly, to return to Plumpton.

The story is told alternately through Lucy and through episodes of the podcast. Lucy is both eager and reluctant to recover her memory, but mostly she just wants to know what happened to Savvy. The podcast and fragments of Lucy's lost memory reveal new information that shines suspicion on several people. It also reveals that there was more to both Lucy and Savannah than met the eye.

Tintera draws you in with a clever mystery that twists back and forth in a way that has you wanting to find out more. It is also filled with literal laugh-out-loud humor, particularly from Lucy's grandmother Beverly. (If Amy Tintera and Janet Evanovich ever want to team up and write a story starring Lucy's Grandma Beverly and Stephanie Plum's Grandma Mazur I will ride or die with the two of them!)

The audiobook is narrated by January LaVoy and Will Damron and they both kill it! Weaving the seriousness of the story punctuated with humor can pose challenges but these two nailed it. Great pacing and distinctive character voices really enhance the story. This is one of the best books I've read this year.

This one was such a fun read! I love True crime podcasts, so this one was already up my alley but it sure did keep me guessing! I loved the dark humor in it, and truly didn’t see the ending coming which is always a great surprise!

What a GREAT story. I loved that Lucy, the main character, was sassy and dealt with her pain with jokes. I loved the twists and turns. I was pulled in from the beginning and had a hard time stopping.

Amy Tintera knocked it out of the park with this novel! Might be the BEST I read all year!! I had feelings of love and hate for some characters and that made the story line so enjoyable to read. THis was one of those stories that I just could not put down!

For readers who like books with a true crime podcast, amnesia, a woman returning to a small home town, a potentially unreliable narrator, and/or a whodunit mystery. It kept me guessing to the end.

Great thriller that grabbed me from the beginning! The storyline was fast paced and although some aspects were somewhat predictable, I enjoyed reading through until the end. Solid thriller that I would recommend to anyone.

Why did Amy snap with this book like that though‼️ Engaged is not the word for this it’s more like this book had me stuck unable to put it down. The sarcasm, the mind games, the lies, the voice, the dark humor, sinister thoughts, and the rumors made this book so worth the read. After a while I was like well hell did Lucy do it? There’s a fine line between truth and deception so when you read the book you’ll understand why I questioned her innocence.

With no memory of what’s transpired imagine being found wandering the streets covered in blood that isn’t yours. Only to discover your best friend is dead and everyone thinks you killed her, even you. That’s the situation Lucy’s currently in. Five years have passed since leaving her hometown in Texas behind and all the memories that came with it especially that horrific night. But when someone goes digging in the past Lucy is forced to return home and confront the inevitable. When Ben Owens the true crime podcast host of “Listen for the Lie” decides to investigate Savvy’s murder it’s a must she solve the case before he does even if she’s the one who did it.

The way this book was structured and written was so well done. I loved the creativity with incorporating the podcast into the book. The way Tintera uses Lucy’s internal thoughts with those from the podcast makes this such a page-turner. Usually I dislike when there are multiple characters introduced but the author executed everything so well. Hearing everyone’s thoughts on what happened the night Savvy died added the right amount of suspense and doubt needed in a murder mystery. The small-town feel, their judgement of Lucy’s character, and their suspicions surrounding her innocence brought this book to life in so many ways.

Overall, the book was amazing and I highly recommend y’all give this one a read. Who do you believe? Who can you trust? Who’s really lying? It’s the spine-tingling suspense that will suck you in and leave you wanting more. Special thanks to the author & @celadonbooks for my gifted copy‼️

THIS IS A MUST READ!!! Listen for the Lie had me glued to the pages from page 1. It is a brilliant, captivating, and twist dark comedy, murder mystery/podcast. The plot revolves around Lucy Chase, a presumed murder who got away with killing her best friend, Savannah. However, Lucy sustained a traumatic brain injury the same night, and does not remember what happened to Savie. Lucy has to confront the horrible night when Ben Owens, podcaster, starts looking into the mystery of Savannah's death.

I absolutely loved this novel. It is one of my favorites. I enjoyed the plot, the banter, and the incredible twisted ended that I did not see coming. I highly recommend reading Listen for the Lie and strongly suggest listening to it on audio.

I look forward to reading more of Amy Tintera's works!

Love how you get the Experience of the true crime podcast, as well as some of the characters, even if it does feel a bit slow but that actually works in its favor

I’m really torn on this one. It’s good, but also extremely slow at parts and a lot of the characters just suck. There’s a lot of people to keep track of, and it’s confusing going between Lucy and the podcast at times. There’s almost too many subplots that it gets overwhelming while also being boring. It also started off HILARIOUS then got dark. I wish it had kept the humor!

All in all, I don’t think I’d recommend this one. But there was a lot of content that made me uncomfortable which affects my rating.

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars! Lucy and Savvy were childhood friends and they went on to live their lives. Lucy got married and Savvy was single and they continued to live in their hometown. Until one day, Savvy is killed and they say that Lucy killed her. The only problem is that Lucy doesn’t remember anything.

Lucy moved away to LA to escape what people claim she did, even though she’s not sure if she really did it. Years later, Ben, a true crime podcaster decides to start a podcast to see if he can find out if Lucy really killed Savvy or not. Lucy decides to go back to her hometown for a family function and also to see if she can figure out if she really committed this crime. There were so many twist and turns to this story and in the end we find out who killed Savvy. This was a good book and I recommend it.

WOW this one was so good. Shocking, twisty - it was hard to point my finger to who I thought did it fast enough. Lucy was a great character. She's sassy, sarcastic and just over being called a murder. Her best friend was murdered five years before and Lucy sustained a head injury the same night. The head injury completely wiped her memory of the whole night (and parts of the morning and even the next few days). The whole town convicted her even though the police never brought charges.

Suddenly, there's a Podcast in town, investigating this old crime. And Lucy's grandma's 80th birthday bash brings Lucy back to town to bring it all back up and see if this True Crime Podcaster, Ben, can be the one to finally discover the truth.

And what a reveal it was! Twisty, dark and utterly consuming. I appreciated Lucy's intrusive thoughts. She's struggled ever since her best friend was killed. She doesn't know if she did but she doesn't think so. I liked Ben and his smug smile. I loved the grandma most. There is great humor to break up the tough parts and the conversations and banter felt natural. This was an amazing story, I'll definitely be hunting down the next stories from this author!

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It was a perfect length and kept my attention the entire time. I loved Grandma Beverly, she had me laughling out loud! I also loved the format of the book with the transcripts of the podcast weaved throughout. It was a little strange that every chapter started with "Lucy" at the top. I kept waiting for another POV to come into play aside from the Listen for the Lie transcripts, but it never did.

A great read for true crime podcast enthusiasts and anyone who loves a great murder mystery, it had me guessing until the very end!

I enjoyed this read much more than I expected. Especially since I had no idea who did it until the very end. That is always a good sign if the killer remains a mystery the entire time and you would never expect them.

I also enjoyed that the flash back were clearly flashbacks and you didn't have to try to figure out what timeline you were in at the time.

I would definitely read more books by this author. Thank you Celadon Books for the early copy of this book.

The citizens of Plumpton, Texas, are all horrible people. I think that’s the message of Listen for the Lie. My first attempt at this book was a dnf, but I decided to pick it up and try again. I got through it pretty quickly, alternating between the physical and audiobooks, but ultimately I was reminded why I’ve stopped reading thrillers (mostly).
Give me the thrillers with LIKABLE characters, minimal foul language, and not all about sleazy sexual behavior. Do those exist?
I did like the podcast style of this book, and the narration was fantastic. And the main character is funny and snarky. Good pacing. But the mystery wasn’t solved in a satisfying way, the characters were all serial adulterers and/or drunks, with some domestic violence thrown in. I think EVERY character was toxic and a hot mess. I never want to go to this fictional town.
I can see why this is popular, but I don’t recommend it. Thanks to the publisher for the physical copy, ebook, and audiobook—so generous!

listen for the lie by amy tintera… think an adult version of the agggtm series 👀 once I picked this up I couldn’t stop reading and finished within 4-5 hours.

the perfect whodunit thriller, throwing you in every direction possible. we do follow a large cast of characters but I had NO problems keeping them apart. including a badass grandma, love! the dark humor had me laughing out loud.

if you take away one thing from my review, please let it be how PHENOMENAL this audiobook was. having multiple narrators, podcast sound effects & vocalizing the most unhinged and taunting hallucinations was an A+ element!

I had a hunch on who the culprit was towards the end (I was right) but it didn’t take away from the story. I wanted an epilogue for this damn thriller but it’s more fitting how everything ended 🖤

someone please tell me why I’m left with the hots for this podcaster? I’m aware that’s absolutely messed up 🔪 4.5 stars!
