"Finding Mr. Write" by Kelley Armstrong is a delightful and humorous romantic comedy that delves into the world of publishing, pseudonyms, and unexpected love. The story follows Daphne McFadden, a determined writer who, after countless rejections, decides to submit her manuscript under the masculine pseudonym Zane Remington. To her astonishment, the book sells for a substantial sum and becomes a media sensation.
Kelley Armstrong expertly combines comedy and romance to craft a lighthearted and emotional romance story. Daphne and Chris are intricately developed characters, and their appreciable chemistry delivers a journey from a faux partnership to a genuine connection that is undeniably believable and exceptionally satisfying.
Perfect book if you want a cute quick read that will make you laugh out loud.
Arc received from the publisher; all thoughts and opinions are my own. I have purchased my own copy of this book.
This is the story of a girl, who wrote a book about the end of the world. If you sang that, you are my kind of people LOL
Okay so Daphne is an author who wrote a zombie book and could not get anyone to buy it. As a test, she slaps a male name on it and it sells. Go figure. She also wrote a REALLY good book, and the guy she hired to play Zane Remington, her male pen name is also really hot. These two together and you’ve got a great publicity hit. However, her plan derails once it’s leaked that the author is actually a woman.
Most of the books I buy are my women, but I know this was totally an issue back in the day. I think it still is for certain genres like mystery and horror, but I could be wrong. The fact that it was ever an issue blows my mind. But I loved the fun had with the fake switch up, and how much of a gem Chris was and the partner Daphne needed. The book ended in a satisfying way and made me hopeful of the general public, even if they were fictional. I think real readers wouldn’t care who wrote it, but it was pretty accurate how feral the public can get over a hot guy LOL
Thank you NetGalley and Forever for the arc for review!
Finding Mr. Write had such a fun premise that I was excited to read it. It was a fast and easy-to-read book. I tried many times but could not connect with these characters. There were many miscommunications throughout the book that I lost interest. I will not review this book on my social media accounts; I will only be here.
Let me start by saying I am probably the least outdoorsy person ever but this book has me wanting to take a trip to the Yukon! Kelley really sets the scene in vivid detail and it appeals to even the most indoorsy of people aka me. The writing is fantastic, which comes as no surprise since Kelley is a longtime author with plenty of published novels. I remember reading the Darkest Powers series growing up (and loving it of course), then seeing this new novel with her name on it and being surprised because it's a light bright covered romcom... like what?? If you've read her books you know this is not her typical genre, but let me tell you, she knocked it out of the park!! I LOVED Finding Mr. Write and I'm so thrilled about it because it had been one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 when I first heard that it was being published. I love the back and forth between the MCs and found myself laughing out loud frequently. I really appreciate a book that makes me feel giddy but doesn't shy away from tougher emotions and topics!!
The chemistry & tension between Daphne and Chris is HOT! Both of them are so lovable and relatable in different ways. Chris is playing a character playing another character at the beginning of this book when Daphne hires him to play Zane Remington, the *author* of her book. Daphne thinks he's just a cocky actor, which is why she hired him to play Zane, but really Chris is an accountant who's fallen on some hard times and needs the money. The more they interact, the more they start to like each other but each is struggling with their feelings because Daphne isn't made for flings, which she assumes is all a guy like Chris could handle, and Chris can't make a move on Daphne when she doesn't know the real him. The angst, the humor and the sweetness will have you speeding through this romcom.

Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong
✍🏻
This was a cute, fun, Hallmark-type romcom. It was funny in a “what can go wrong next” type of way. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. There were a few things I disliked: the characters weren’t fleshed out enough, Daphne went from hating Chris to being into him way too quickly, and there was a never ending 3rd act miscommunication that made me lose all interest in the book. If those things had been fixed, I would have liked it a lot more.

During a drunken night of anger, Daphne sends her manuscript to various publishers under a male pen name only to find herself trapped in the charade of Zane Remington, MFA with the help of sexy accountant Chris Stanton.

at first, I felt the story started off way too fast, but gradually warmed up to the pace and direction. The meet cute was hilariously, explosive, and made for a sizzling tension; too bad this is a 100% closed door romance.
I think the author did an amazing job highlighting the disparities between men and women in the publishing world. We have a long way to go for equality.
I recommend this to readers interested in the publishing and marketing side of books. This is also for the people out there who want to see the female experience and hardship and publishing.
I love Kelley Armstrong so I knew I was going to read this book when I saw it. I especially love that she writes such a diverse collection of books across lots of genres. I was not disappointed by this rom-com by her. I will admit the love interest took me a minute to really like, but once I fell I fell hard (much like our heroine). Daphne has written a book that she can’t sell and she has an idea she runs by her friend Nia who is an attorney. Daphne uses a male pseudonym and Nia finds her a man who needs Nia’s help to play “Zane” for a couple of author shots. But a couple of photos turns into pure chaos as Daphne’s book becomes a hit. And despite them living in completely different areas sparks are flying between Chris and Daphne. This book was a fun read that I devoured. Also, I would love to see Daphne’s book written, I think Kelley Armstrong could do it justice.
Thank you Forever and NetGalley for the copy of this book!
I absolutely adored this romance novel. Books about books can’t be beat and this one takes the cake. Immediately after meeting Chris and Daphne, I was sucked in.
What lengths would you go through to have your novel published into the world? Would you take on a pseudonym? Would you hire a man to be the author of your book so the publishing world would actually look at it? That is precisely what happens in Finding Mr. Write, a novel about a woman persevering in a man’s world to get her published writing into readers’ hands. Did I mention he’s falling for her…
3.5 Stars
Alright so as a reader I’m trying to read more romance, branch out and I saw Finding Mr. Write by one of my all time favourite authors Kelley Armstrong and knew I had to read it. (I have met Kelley once in Calgary and she signed every book of hers that I owned ahah like 20 books, she’s a rockstar). Anyways, I like the premise of this story but for some reason it fell short for me and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I understand why Daphne did what she did, makes perfect sense to me. I appreciated Chris, he’s a stand up guy. I actually also enjoyed Sakura, she was interesting. Same with Chris’ sister, she had her own story going on. My main gripe with characters was Robbie, like maybe I’m jaded but I actually wanted him to do something, or us to find out he is a creep, stalker something. Like he role wasn’t hashed out enough I needed more. Hell I even liked Lawrence.
I did find the sexy/ love was a bit slow which is fine but it went from like 0-100 when it did happen ahha. I enjoyed those scenes. Also Kelley please actually write Edge! I’d grab it ahhaha.
I would recommend this read because I think it was just me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) For the copy.
This book is so adorable, I seriously loved everything about it. It is filled with humor, and I love the main characters, Chris and Daphne. It’s such an interesting and fun concept - A female author of a sci-fi zombie apocalypse novel keeps getting rejected, so she creates a male pen name. When the book sells, she has to hire someone to be her book cover model. When her book becomes a huge success, things get a little tricky.
It is smartly written, and in third person dual POV. It’s hard to believe this is Kelley Armstrong’s first rom-com (not her first book, but the first in this genre). I hope she writes more! Living in the Adirondacks, we have all sorts of wildlife around, so I could relate a little to the encounters that occurred, with Daphne living in the Yukon. The love story between Daphne and Chris is also very entertaining, from their meet cute to everything else that follows. Chris is so sweet and hilarious, although maybe not the best decision maker. Daphne is independent, They worked so well together and had the best chemistry.
Thank you Forever Pub and NetGalley for a copy of this eARC!
I liked the premise of this book a lot, and it was mostly a cute story, but for some reason the characters just felt flat for me. Neither of the leads came across as realistic, fully developed people and their relationship lacked the sense of connection that I look for in a romance. Limited spice, but what there is very spicy
Finding Mr. Write is the perfect fun, light romantic read for the summer. Both Daphne and Chris are very likeable characters, and their romance was cute, but it also felt kind of rushed. I would have liked to see more development in their relationship, some more chemistry. Yes they both thought the other was hot, and both were charming and nice, but it felt like there needed to be more there.
The writing was very engaging, especially at the beginning, however somewhere towards the middle the story just started to fall a little flat for me. I was still enjoying the book and having a good time, but once the book tour started, my interest starting waning a tad. I'm personally not a fan of the miscommunication trope, and I don't want to to give spoilers, but I felt a lot what was going on was overly dramatic and not as big a deal as the characters thought. The resolution to the big conflict at the end also fell sort of flat for me and I wish it had been handled differently.
Overall this book was a good time! Chris especially got a few laughs out of me. I'd recommend if you're looking for a fast, fun read.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
It's no secret that I love Kelley Armstrong's novels. I eat them up like they are nourishment for my soul. I have always enjoyed that she is able to sprinkle romantic and comedic bits throughout her novels regardless of genre. She just does it so well, it never seems forced or contrived. She came up with an idea and decided to go all in and write her first full-blown rom-com, and I knew I had to read it! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I truly hope this is just the beginning of her foray into the rom-com genre. Kelley Armstrong is a master at world building and dialogue, and this was no exception. Daphne is a writer, but she's unable to sell her novel until she decides to use the pseudonym Zane Remington. It not only sells, but there is a bidding war over it. Proof that publishing is still a man's world. But now that she's done it, how does she do speaking events or book signings? Time to hire a man to play the role of Zane. Enter Chris Stanton, account. Let's just say the plan isn't as simple as it sounds and what ensues is part comedy, part spicy, with some anger thrown in. You also get an inside peak at the publishing world, and a taste of what it might be like to be an author. I absolutely loved it, gobbling it up in no time at all. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!
I adored Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong!
Such a fun romantic comedy!
I’ve been a major fan of KA and this book came as no surprise! I instantly fell in love! And wish she would create more stories like this one.
This was a great book. I connected with the characters. I felt engrossed with the plot.
Thank You NetGalley and Forever for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have been a Kelley Armstrong fan starting with Bitten. I have enjoyed most of her books, including the YA, her foray into horror, and now a rom-com.
I really liked it. I found the premise interesting, A female author resubmitting her book with a male pen name and getting a book deal, then having to figure out how to continue the charade. She ends up hiring her best friend’s accountant, who she thinks is an actor. Hilarity ensues.
You also have the beautiful setting of the Yukon for most of the book and an amazing dog. Along with the dilemma of irritation that the book sold with a male pen name, is the author’s disconnect between wanting to keep her privacy and not be a public figure while still wanting to see people enjoy what she wrote. It makes me wonder how many authors hate the “marketing” part of the job.
Solid summer read!
Thank you to NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Kelley Armstrong for the eARC.
First off thank you NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for this ARC.
This book wasn't for me. I was drawn in by the premise, which I think is really interesting and had great potential. I love the idea of exploring the publishing industry from a females POV and the struggles women face within the industry, plus the cover is so so cute!
My issue with this book isn't the writing but the plot. Yes, Daphne hires a man (Chris) to play the role of her author pseudonym (Zane) for the press release/promotion of her book. Cool, I get that. Love it. What I don't understand is why Chris felt the need to not only play Zane but to also play a fake Chris (it confusing). It was Chris Stanton playing Chris Aimsworth playing Zane Remington. WHY?? It just came off way too cheesy, unrealistic, weird, and childish. It just felt unnecessary and I couldn't understand this decision. For me it became awkward to read.
Kelley Armstrong’s work will forever have a special place in my heart. I remember reading The Summoning right after high school and falling in love back with reading. I was literally in shock when I got approved to read Finding Mr. Write. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. I know it was very different from The Darkest Powers trilogy but I loved everything about it. This story was fun and easy to read especially because I loved the characters and the romance. Thank you so much to the Publisher and NetGalley for giving me this amazing opportunity.
Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors so when I found out she had written a romantic comedy, I knew it would be just as wonderful as everything else I’ve read of hers.
Finding Mr. Write follows Daphne McFadden who, tired of rejection, submits her manuscript under a man’s name. When it sells at auction, she hires an actor to play the role of Zane Remington.
Chris Stanton may look the part of a survivalist but he’s secretly an accountant who has no idea how to even chop wood. Sparks fly when they have to pretend her home in the Yukon belongs to him and things really heat up once the book tour begins.
This is funny and charming and has such an interesting premise. The second I started reading, I was hooked.
I absolutely adored Daphne and Chris. They have excellent chemistry and tons of hilarious banter -which is a necessity when it comes to rom-coms. I was rooting for them from the very beginning and I loved that it’s dual POV.
I enjoyed the Yukon setting, the glimpse into the publishing world and of course, Daphne’s dog Tika.
I definitely recommend picking this up if you’re looking for a delightfully cute, fun rom-com!
3/5 - This was cute! I liked the premise - architect turned unpublished writer resubmits her book with a male pen name, gets a huge book deal and has to use a male actor (well, her friends accountant posing as an actor) for photos and appearances. Lots of miscommunication, mutual attraction etc etc.
Sadly the pace was off for me and the story didn’t really pull me in. I liked the characters but didn’t LOVE them, and they both had an odd internal mocking voice that I found off putting. I did like that I got both perspectives though - love a dual POV! - and the setting in the first half of the book was lovely.
Thank you to @netgalley, Grand Central Publishing and Kelley Armstrong for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Out now!
