I enjoy Kelley Armstrong’s writing, so I was delighted to try her first romantic comedy, Finding Mr. Write. When Daphne McFadden’s book is rejected, she submits her book as a male author and finds herself in a bidding war & huge book deal… only now everyone wants to meet Zane Remington. What’s a girl to do?
Coffee Dates With Finding Mr. Write
First Date– As someone who loves books, audiobooks and works with authors and publishers, this book was hilarious. Along the way, Armstrong hit on relevant truths about the industry. Daphne McFadden is an outdoorsy writer who lives in Alaska, carries bear spray and has written a post apocalypse story. I felt her frustration at being rejected and her surprise when her book goes into a bidding war and lands a deal. When Daphne and her best friend decide to hire an actor for the cover, I was all in.
Second Date– I loved the meet-cute between Chris Stanton, aka Zane and Daphne. Chris is acting, but he’s not an actor and in his head he imagines how Daphne will want Zane to be. This man knows nothing about the outdoors, has never handled a gun, let alone encountered a bear. The two end up at her cabin for a television interview and it goes viral, pushing the publisher to want lots of signings. The two decide Daphne will travel with him as his assistant. I loved their chemistry as Chris charms and negotiates their tour accommodations. They might just pull this off. That is until Daphne gets an email that changes everything. Someone knows about Zane.
Third Date– As their relationship moves out of the friends’ zone, things heat up on the tour and Chris does something radical. I laughed, adored the cute dog, and swooned a little, even if I wanted to knock a few heads. I loved the little side topics involving the industry from staff to the CEO. We see lots of character growth from both Daphne and Chris before the story wrapped up. Armstrong delivered a cute, funny RomCom perfect for fans of books.
If you are looking for a light, fun romance to take to the beach, consider adding Finding Mr. Write.

Unfortunately, something about this book's tone just didn't work for me. I appreciate the premise, and it's probably a me thing and not the book thing. I've seen many positive reviews, so I encourage you to give it a try yourself!
3.5 stars
This was a fun read! I really liked the dual POV and the setting. It takes place in the Yukon, and Armstrong paints the scenery so vividly!
I didn’t find that the main characters were super fleshed out. I didn’t really feel or believe their feelings, so maybe if their personalities were explored a little bit more I would have felt their connection a bit better.
However, I really enjoyed the last bit of the book! Overall, it was a light and fun read. It’s not super memorable, but it’s great for an escape!
This was a fun read in which a woman finds the courage to own her own talent. The author also references the difficulties women writes have getting their work seen and acknowledged. I would recommend this one to be the perfect weekend read to relax with and enjoy.
This was really entertaining!
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of author treatment showcased here (women vs men).
I also enjoyed how that was not necessarily the main plot, but kind of a sidecar that has a great impact.
The scenery is amazing and the characters are really fun to spend time with.
Much love to NetGalley & Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for my ARC.

Okay, where to start….
The writing is easy to read, but the material I was reading was cringey.
I’m tired of reading about women without a backbone and Daphne was missing a few.
1. You publish a book under a fake name and pretend you’re a man and you go out of your way to hire someone to pretend to be said man. (Fine) but you never speak up when that man does all of your publicity stuff? When he basically oversteps?
Idc that Chris is playing as Zane. You pay him and you have to be able to tell him to stop.
2. You’re out here puking at the slightest thing. Like get a grip. Puking when the crew comes. Puking when you thought you saw Chris with Sofia. Like how old are you?
You’ve had maybe one real conversation with Chris at this point.
I genuinely disliked this book and couldn’t make myself finish. I didn’t like the characters and I didn’t find the plot enjoyable.
Finding Mr. Write will hook you from the get go. It’s funny and romantic and simply a page turner. I couldn’t believe this was Armstrongs first romance as it was very engaging.
Daphne & Chris are the most fun couple. With Chris posing as Zane Remington, Daphne’s pen name for her book, it sets a great stage for this story to play out. The book tour gave them an excuse to get closer and build a relationship before disaster struck. Miscommunication happened which almost broke them up before they really had a chance. The ending of the story was very satisfying. The level of spice did not make me blush….too much. I have read time travel books, remote mystery books & horror stories from Kelley Armstrong and really enjoyed them. I’m glad Armstrong made this foray into the world of romance novels,
Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for a copy of this book.
A comedy of errors and an endearing romance made this a thoroughly entertaining read.
Daphne’s reasons for submitting her book as Zane Remmington made complete sense, but the whole situation got very complicated very fast. Chris was funny and self-deprecating, even when he pretended to be an arrogant author. He made some major mistakes in his quest to help Daphne, but he had the best of intentions and got it right in the end. Daphne had to compromise so much, the poor woman, and she was stuck on this runaway train of her own making. But her determination to see it through and her willingness to forgive carried her through it all.
These two found themselves in quite a few hilarious and somewhat ridiculous pickles. I enjoyed the chemistry between them and their growing affection for each other. The interviews and other public appearances made for some very amusing reading. And everything worked out just perfectly.
The story is told from both Chris and Daphne’s perspectives in the third person. I can highly recommend this if you enjoy a steamy romcom.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5/5 Stars! Thank you, NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC of Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong.
This is my first book by this author and she did not disappoint! I love a cute outdoor vibe story. I LOVE a strong and smart leading lady and is just a clever ass woman that I pretty much fell in love with. There were some funny parts that got me to laugh out loud and this is 100% rom-com story.
Loved this and will definitely be checking out Kelley's novels! Loved this!
this book was so good! I loved the outdoor vibes of it! Perfect for a camping trip! Loved it sm! It was definitely interesting and I loved the vibes of it.
Thank you, NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
The synopsis had me SO interested in this book. I love a secret identity trope in my romance books. BUT, this fell flat for me, unfortunately. I consume a lot of contemporary romance, and while this one seemed unique and fun, it did not pull me in as I'd hoped. I didn't feel the chemistry and desire between the two main characters as much as I would want to while reading. It was just an okay read for me.
Kelley Armstrong is one of my favourite authors. She writes in a number of genres and many of them contain romantic threads. But a full on rom-com? Finding Mr. Write is the only one! And it is a fantastic read!
Armstrong draws on her own experiences, as well as those of her author friends in Finding Mr. Write.
"How much easier would those early days have if we could have hired an actor? Found someone smooth and glib and witty, who would be a much better spokesperson for our books. And I thought, That's a rom-com!
I was hooked right from the first pages. Daphne is our lead character. She's smart, strong, talented and but sometimes she forgets that. She's so easy to like. Her inner dialogue feels real and clever. And how about Chris Stanton? He's an accountant, but thinks he can bring "Zane Remington" to life. (The name is perfect!) We readers are privy to his inner thoughts and dialogue as well. And yes, there are a lot of funny bits. I found myself laughing out loud. And in any rom-com tale, there's a lot of yes, no, maybe so, on the path to the final chapters.
I loved the characters, the premise, the truths, the writing and just all of it!
This was a super cute book!! The lengths she went through tho made me incredibly sad but it’s so true how different men and women are treated so I liked the light this book shone on that topic.
I really enjoyed the characters. They were a lot of fun. The story was incredibly unique. They had great chemistry. All in all a super cute book!
I enjoyed this one, i liked both the heroine and hero. As well as the premise. Though as a book it fell a little flat. But I think it would make a great movie.
Great characters that pull you into the story. Funny, fast , and romantic read.
The premise that to get her book published it needed to be written by a man
and the hilarity that caused made it hard to put down.
The premise was cute, but the execution was a little lacking - the author's voice/style didn't work for me fully.
Finding Mr. Write absolutely sucked me in from the beginning. It started off with our main character submitting her book with a male pen name, which of course then got picked up for publication. Instead of remaining illusive (which is what I would have done) Daphne decides to hire someone to be the male author. This brought up a wealth of emotions for Daphne as this book was her pride and joy and she wasn't getting to experience the author side of things, like meeting fans. Obviously this becomes a thing later and I love how it was handled.
Chris is absolutely adorable and the kind of man I'd want. Down to earth, nerdy, considerate (but not perfect). He played the arrogant author well, but was himself when it was just him and Daphne. You could see the sparks from the get go and it was such a delight to watch them figure things out between them as well as they figure out how to navigate what soon becomes a hot mess.
I loved this book! The story was something new and fresh for me. I loved the idea and the banter and surprisingly enough I loved all the characters!
We got forced proximity, fake relationship, he falls first, slow burn, and hidden identity. All tropes I love in a story. Synopsis: Daphne McFadden already knows that as a female author, the cards are stacked against her. Now she knows just how much. Because her sudden whim to pose as an “outdoorsy hunk of masculinity” male author for her new book just resulted in the a bidding war, a huge book deal, and the kind of fame every author dreams of. Now she’s in big trouble. Because she needs to convince the world that Zane Remington actually exists . . . but how? By hiring an actor, of course.
I am absolutely obsessed with the setting of this book being in the Yukon. The author set a beautiful picture. I would love more stories set in locales like this one.
Overall I really enjoyed this story and was entertained the entire time. Thank you to NetGalley, Forever Publishing and Kelley Armstrong for the ARC!
Adorable and a delight. While I can believe Kelley Armstrong has already published books, I'm surprised this is her first venture into rom-com. She's a new to me author and. if she ever publishes something in this genre again, I would happily pick it up.
