First off five stars is nowhere near enough! This book was utterly amazing. I laughed out loud, chuckled some and giggled many times reading this book. This is the first time Kelley Armstrong has written in the rom-com genre and I for one hope it is not the last. I think this is one of my favorite book by her so far. I was hooked just a chapter in and could not put it down. Such an original story, great characters and settings and so much humor along the way. An added bonus is Daphne's dog was a husky (Which is my favorite dog breed) and such a cool dog! Thanks to #Netgalley for this absolutely amazing book!
Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong
Pub Date: Jun 25 2024
It would be a dream come true for Daphne McFadden to be a published author. Daphne is an architect living in the Yukon territory, right in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. She has written an intense story about survival in the Yukon surrounded by zombies.
After multiple rejections from publishing companies, Daphne decided to send the manuscript under a pseudonym and her book was picked up right away. Here comes 'Zane Remington' to the rescue.
With the help of her friend, Daphne hires an actor to play the role of Zane. Little does she know that the 'actor' she hired is a sweet, attentive accountant who bakes.
The book quickly becomes a #1 best seller and Daphne is expected to go on a cross-country book tour.
What is a girl to do? Daphne decides to go on tour pretending to be "Zane's" lovely assistant. Cue the close quarters and the romance! Sparks quickly fly between the two but can it work out between them?
Thank you to @netgalley @readforeverpub and @grandcentralpub for my digital ARC!
Daphne is an architect who lives off the grid in the Yukon territory. She's written a book, but no publisher is interested, at least until she submits the book under the name of a man - Zane Remington. Daphne hires Chris to pretend to be "Zane Remington" for the publication of the book. Chris looks like everything a "rugged survivalist" who would live in the Yukon should look like. The book takes off, and quickly becomes a New York Times #1 Bestseller!
The publisher wants to send Zane on a publicity tour to promote the book, so Chris and Daphne head out on tour together, with Daphne pretending to be "Zane's" assistant. What could go wrong?
I enjoyed this fun r0m-com romance, which is out now from Forever Publishing. Special Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advanced Reader Copy of this book!
This canadian romance will make you want to visit or move to the Yukon as I just loved Daphne’s character, she is this take charge leading female- author and architect. She lives off the grid with her dog. But she submitted her book under a male name and now must find someone to play that name up, in walks Chris the accountant turned actor turned Zane. I really enjoyed these two characters even with the lack of communication in the middle. They are fun and flirty during the whole book. Also loved the whole getting to learn more about the book world.
I can’t wait to read more of Armstrong and would love more Yukon/remote settings! This was a perfect rom-com! This is a perfect summer read!
I'm always a fan of Kelley Armstrong, and I was delighted to see she released a Rom-Com! I quite enjoyed this; it was fun and flirty, and just the right amount of romance. I loved the characters and the relationship that grew between them. I could have dealt without all the miscommunications though. They are both fully grown adults and the miscommunications between them drove me bonkers! Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book, and as usual, look forward to more!
Thank you to NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and the author for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I almost forgot about the e-galley I had of this, so got to reading a bit late. But once I picked it up I was sucked right into this fun little story! I’ve enjoyed the YA books by this author that I’ve read in the past, but haven’t read any of her adult titles. And this was her first rom-com, and I think she did a great job! It doesn’t sound as if she’s planning to venture into a bunch of this type in the future, that she had the idea for this one pop into her head and then got it all planned out and written based on some fellow writers suggestions. However I would read more from her like this in the future!
Daphne was a fun character, I totally got her “fear” of talking in front of crowds or even the attention she would get from being a famous author. I do know there are always still the people in the publishing or any other world that still look at a man’s work over a woman’s if they know who the author is. However, I do wonder if a YA book might be okay these day by a woman, as it seems as most of what I stock in my library is by women authors? But as was mentioned in this story, Daphne’s book got put on the adult bestseller list and all the backing because it was supposedly by a guy.
I fell in love with Chris from the first time we met him. But with what had happened in Daphne’s last serious relationship, it was extremely easy to understand why she wasn’t going to be interested in him, or give into the inkling of attraction. Chris had his own background and reasons for not jumping into it at first. Not knowing for sure how she actually felt about him. And then wanting to go slow. To prove to her. Yes, he was a perfect book boyfriend. Probably almost a perfect boyfriend in real life if he’d been real! The banter and sexual tension between him and Daphne, especially every time they got interrupted by a phone call or text, was perfect!
The living in the Yukon wilderness setting of the story was something I really liked as well. Daphne having built her perfect house, learning about all the different things that area had to offer like hiking, outdoor activities, etc. The bear parts of the story, her past with swimming, all of it either was very exciting or else I connected to it in a way. It was also a lot of fun reading about the author events, and I loved when Daphne looked out and saw that not all the people in her audience were there just because of how Zane/Chris looked or his crazy grizzly bear video.
I do feel like the neighbor Robbie’s storyline was maybe left a little bit hanging at the end? I know that by revealing the secret the way they did, it took away his blackmail, but, and maybe I read too fast and missed it, I’d have like to have seen something happen to him for what he did.
But a wonderful unexpected rom-com from Kelley Armstrong, and I’d definitely read more like this from her in the future! Hint: Maybe we could get either Daphne’s friend Nia’s story or Chris’s sister Gemma’s story?
DNF. I thought the premise sounded really cute but found myself just annoyed, especially at Chris but also wondering how Daphne was falling for anything with him. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the free ebook to review.
I read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I did enjoy this one. The beginning sucks you right in, when you're getting to know Chris and Daphne. Their banter was cute, as was the chemistry.
Once we got to the public displays of affection, it started getting a teensy bit over the top. Similarly, their third act break up was a tad bit dragged out, but everyone has different tastes. Some readers appreciate complications.
I liked that it was honest about women and men writers, how society judges genres based on gender.
3.5 stars
Finding Mr. Write was an easy read to get into, and I was quick to finish it . It is the first novel I've read by Kelley Armstrong, and it won't be my last!
I enjoyed the premise of the novel, and the development of Chris and Daphne's relationship kept me engaged and connected to the story throughout. Their slow-burn romance was fun and flirty. I enjoyed their banter and thought they had good chemistry.
The conflict that arose was resolved rather swiftly, so the story was very low on the angst and tension.
All in all, it was a very entertaining read. If you're in the mood for a rom-com, check out Finding Mr. Write this summer!

One of the things I loved the most about this book was Daphne's character. She was so loveable and knowledgeable and I loved all of her dimensions! I also loved the descriptions of the Yukon and the picturesque scenery. This book made me want to visit so bad! Not only was Daphne such a cool character, but I loved her dynamic with Chris! From the beginning, I was rooting for them and I loved the slow build. I loved how Daphne was the one that was exposing Chris to *her* world and that he was the one learning throughout (not the typical male teaching female trope). This is such a cute summer read that will make it's readers want to get to the end of the story to know what will really happen with the two of them - two people that come from very different worlds!
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't expecting much from this book but I ended up loving it. It was a super easy and light read and perfect for the type of book it is. I liked the idea of Daphne submitting her book under a man's name just to see if it gets accepted and the outcome that came of it. It also makes me wonder if there are any female authors out there that do write under male pseudonyms.
I loved how goofy Chris was and I also was very happy that he gave up on the "Chris Ainsworth" persona quickly. It let the two of them actually get to know each other.
Finding Mr. Write was an absolutely perfect summer read. It had all the elements you need: light, funny, and a great HEA.
The writing was very engaging. The book managed to suck me in right and I found myself wanting to keep reading (even when I should have been adulting lol). I’m not the biggest fan of the miscommunication trope, but other than that I really loved Daphne and Chris’s story.
If you are looking for a fan, fun, easy summer read, look no further! Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Daphne Mc Fadden is a promising writer living among the Yukon wilderness. She has spent most of her writing career receiving rejection after rejection to all of her past books. She is used to doing things for herself, she doesn't need a man to help her survive the rugged wilds and all that it entails. Though, posing as a handsome, muscular outdoor enthusiast and using a male pseudonym for her latest book? That could help bring her all the fortune and fame she deserves, without putting her in the uncomfortable spotlight. So, hiring an actor to play Zane Remington wilderness expert extraordinaire and author just might be her easiest way out. How hard could it be right?
Finding Mr. Write is a new romance novel by author Kelly Armstrong, famous for her Women of the Otherworld series that was turned into the tv show Bitten. I found this story to be very cute and loved the Yukon scenery, Kelley's ability to write such a realistic picture obviously stems from her spending so much time there herself. Seeing a female character that can handle her own and be somewhat of a survivalist was nice to experience, however the romance between Daphne and Chris (Zane) didn't feel as flushed out as I would have liked even though their banter was funny. I know Kelley can write amazing couples like Elena and Clay from Bitten, so I would have liked a little more slow-burn, and not as much miscommunication between this couple. The story line was much more original than most rom-coms and I really enjoyed the close proximity trope. This is a perfect summer read for a camping trip.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC, in return for an honest review. 3 1/2 stars
I LOVED this book. LOVED IT! When I was a kid, I saw reruns of a show with Pierce Brosnan (yes, 007) called Remington Steele. As an adult, I thought that premise would make a great book. Armstrong made “my idea” (haha) even better and created this wonderful story of a beleaguered writer who doesn’t find success until she publishes under a man’s name. When a book tour is scheduled, she must find a man to become her author in the flesh. Let me tell you, this one is every bit as sexy as Pierce Brosnan… er 007… I mean Remington Steele. Whoever! Buy the book! You’ll love it! The story has more feels than 007, more depth, and a much happier ending.
Thank you Netgalley and forever publishing for the earc. My opinions are being left voluntarily. I loved loved this book. It far exceeded my expectations. I loved the yukon setting as opposed to the alaska storues ee always get. I loved the romance progression i loved the bookish theme and kust will be thinking of this book for awhile. Love all the Canadian authors forever publishing has and they are set in Canada.
5/5☆
Fun, funny, & sometimes frustrating.
I liked Daphne & Chris. They were very likeable. The writing flowed and was easy and fast to read.
The premise of the book is Daphne using a male pen name for her book but going one step farther by hiring an actor to play that role for interviews and book show panels and signings. After getting a bunch of rejections for her book, and a little bit of wine, she decided to rework the blurb of the book and submit it under a male name. Bang! She gets an offer. I 100% believe this goes on in every aspect of society and it's frustrating but realistic.
I'm not well versed in the book world. My knowledge is as deep as opening the book and reading it. But, I do know authors use pen names which is not a big deal (unless they're super cheesy, that bugs me) but I don't understand why it's such a big deal that an actor is used to play out that role. In the reality of behind the scene book workings this might be horrible but as a lay person I don't get why this is such a major incident. Seems more of a faux pas than a major scandal.
The underlying trope is a spinoff of the miscommunication trope, it is a NO communication trope, which may be even more frustrating. Each character runs through all the scenarios in their heads, basically miscommunicating with themselves and never talking to the other about it. That grew tiresome especially as it ramped up even more towards the end.
In the author's notes at the end, Kelley Armstrong admits that rom com is not her normal genre, fantasy, mystery, & thrillers are. In that case, this is an excellent foray into this format. It is both rom and com without being cheesy or sappy. The story flowed, the characters were great, and it had the perfect balance of sweet and funny.
I liked this book. Not a full 4 stars but at least a 3.5 or 3.75
(I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley)
Daphne is tired of her manuscripts being rejected so she decides to take a risk and submits her new one under and pseudonym and uses a man’s name and sure enough, she gets an acceptance letter quickly and it turns into a major hit! Now Daphne needs to find a man to play her alter ego, Zane Remington, a real man’s man, on the book tour. Along comes Chris Stanton, who seems to be the perfect fit for the part. There’s just one problem-Chris isn’t an actor, he’s an accountant. Can he pull off being a writer from the Yukon?
This was full of fantastic scenery and strong characters-Daphne is truly a boss babe and Chris made me want to give him a hug on several occasions. And their banter was chef’s kiss too.
But there’s more to this rom-com. It tackles things like sexism, racism and gender roles along with the swoon worthy romance. This is one you’ll want to grab and then thank me later!
Thanks to Forever Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
I had a lot of fun reading this book! We’ve seen a lot of the FMC being an author but this is the first one I’ve read where she gets drunk and pretends to be a man to get a fair chance! Then even further, having to hire a man to be her alter ego!
The relation ship between Daphne and Chris was fun and funny! They had great chemistry and terrific banter, the flirty moments were flirting! This was easy to follow with a great flow to the writing. I never got bored with the story!
Daphne just wants to get her book published, but feels the only way to do so is to sell it under a pen name - a male name.
I think the premise of this book was fun (but also frustrating that she was right and it had to be a male) but the pacing in some places was off. I wish we knew more about Daphne - I sometimes felt we knew more about Chris than her. Overall entertaining and a good debut rom-com for an author who typically doesn’t write it!
The premise of the book is about the heroine needing the hero to masquerade as her male alter-ego when her latest publication becomes more famous than she expected. Said latest book resulted in fame that brings a bidding war and a book deal. The hero is up to the task of the masquerade, but this brings him closer to the heroine and the huge fandom that crops up. With such a lie, how will the heroine and the hero have their happy ending under such an auspicious beginning to their relationship.
This is a nice romance novel to read during summer season. I enjoyed the entertaining premise of a fandom of a popular book and an author that becomes famous because of it. I liked the main characters and their relationship with each other. I would have liked a bit more details added to the story for a smoother transition in certain areas of the book. I also liked a few secondary characters more than some others, just due to actions that I find unfavorable. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.
