Let me tell you, that I have been camping my entire life and never had camp cooking that came anywhere close to the type of recipes included in New Camp Cookbook. My family clearly needs to up our camp cooking game!
New Camp Cookbook was filled with cozy recipes and stunning photos! The recipes were easy to follow along with! I’m looking forward to trying out a few on our next camping trip!
I loved this book! It has so many ideas to elevate your camping experience. I’ve saved a few for my next trip once it warms up a bit and can’t wait to have a little luxury while off the grid!
What a great camping cookbook! I love the variety of recipes, very different from your normal hot dogs and smores type The images were amazing, I really enjoy when an author puts as much effort into the presentation as the recipes. This is definitely a good gift for the bougie camper or the glamping enthusiast who like some luxury when roughing it in the wilderness. I don't think a lot of avid outdoors people will make sure to have smoked salmon and arugula in their supplies, but to each their own. I even liked how they added some cocktails to keep you warm by the fire. Overall a great book, would purchase for one of my many family members who love camping. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fairly predictable rom com but it was still a good read that I enjoyed it. It was also a quick read.
Campers and those with remote cabins will welcome Emily Vikre’s cookbook, New Camp Cookbook Fireside Warmers: Drinks, Sweets, and Shareables to Enjoy around the Fire . It contains lots of snacks and drinks (including dozens of cocktails) to enjoy while away from home. The cookbook includes tips and suggestions on things like packing the cooler, camp-friendly barware, and cooking with fire.
The featured snacks range from sweet to savory, and most are mouthwatering. If you’re a big drinker, you have a huge variety of cocktails and alcoholic drinks to choose from.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with comments from the author at the beginning of each recipe, followed by a list of ingredients, followed by step-by-step instructions. They are easy to follow, and most of the recipes call for minimal ingredients, making them suitable for almost anyone to prepare – from beginning cooks to advanced. A real plus is that the recipes include beautiful, professional photographs that make for very tempting dishes.
All told, this cookbook seems to assume that anyone camping or spending time at a cabin does little more that snack and drink constantly. While most of the drinks are alcoholic, it assumes that there are only adults present. Nevertheless, there are several Dutch oven recipes and dishes cooked over the campfire that are very appealing. In fact, while the emphasis is on snacks and drinks, there are a few very good recipes for main dishes that everyone will want to prepare.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I loved this cookbook! My partner and I camp a lot, so we could actually use many of these options. I think the recipes made sense and were easily approachable for a home cook. The photography and design was lovely as well.
Ya'll, my next camping trip is going to be lit! I'm so excited, I want to leave right now. I love camping but I'm often at a loss for what to actually cook, so this book was absolutely perfect! We also have a firepit on the back deck that we rarely use, but that is definitely going to change after this book. I'm inspired.
It's full of fun recipes for both food and drinks: sweet and savory, alcoholic and not, to share and to keep all to yourself! The pictures are gorgeous and make me want to go camping with Emily, haha. I'm definitely going to need a physical copy of this to keep with my cookbooks. It would also make a great gift!
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Our family and several of our friends are avid campers. From the tent and R.V. to little out of the way cabins, camping is a big part of who we are. Part of the adventure is the meals and treats. This cookbook was a great find for us. The possibilities were endless in this treasure find. You will find everything from savory goodies, shareable meals, breakfast treats, campfire treats and the perfect drinks to relax by the fire. We definitely found some of our favorites: Grilled Chicken Fajita bobs, Easy Breakfast Quesadillas, Pie Iron Chimichangas, Meatball and Veggie soup, Fluffy peach-filled Pancakes, and Salted Hazelnut Hot chocolate (boozy or not). You are going to love the variety as well as easy to follow recipes to make wonderful meals with family and friends. I received this as an ebook ARC but I will be adding it to our cookbook collection. This will be a staple in our camping list. We can’t wait to gift one to our camping friends.
This cookbook is a culinary treasure! The recipes are not only easy to follow but also yield delicious results. The diverse range of dishes caters to various tastes, making it a go-to guide for both novice and experienced cooks. The vibrant photos add an extra layer of inspiration, making this cookbook a delightful addition to any kitchen.
This is a lovely compilation of campsite recipes. This starts with the recipe most associated with camping: smores. It details the classic smores recipe with variations for creative changes to the classic recipe. There are then additional campsite-modified recipes, including recipes for boozy hot chocolate, alcoholic drinks, and refreshing drinks. This covers recipes for camping throughout the year.
This was one of the cutest most practical camping cookbooks I have seen. I defintely, badly want this physical book!!! I also want to get a copy for my daughter. It had recipes that were both comforting and actually attainable to make. I loved the photos. It felt so festive and cozy. My daughter loves camping and I enjoy hiking so this was right up our alley.
A cookbook for people who enjoy the outdoors and love life! There's plenty of camping cookbooks out there, but this one should quickly rise to the top of the heap. It's clear that author Emily Vikre gets out of the house as often as possible. Her personality and enthusiasm is woven through her recipes and advice. I even caught a few side-references to 'you had to be there' crazy memories from her past.
But it's not a rambling memoir, she's got her priorities in order, too. The books starts off early with all sorts of playful variations on the classic camp treat, s'mores. I think my favorite recipe is for Norwegian stick bread. I'm a bread maker and always looking for new twists (see what I did there) on a favorite comfort food. What a clever way to bond and tell stories around a fire, brandishing sticks full of food.
All these tasty temptations are going to need to be washed down, of course, and there's plenty of drink options for that. Lots of them are boozy and creative, like the chamomile tea toddy. Emily makes no apologies for enjoying an adult beverage, and I like that. I've seen too much apologetic, toe-scuffing the ground timidness when it comes to presenting a delicious spiked drink, but you'll find none of that attitude here.
Oh! I must mention the food photography. It's amazing. The photos are beautiful AND match the recipes closely. For the first time in a long time, I feel like a cookbooks photos were either taken by the author, or she had a close involvement with the process.
If you don't get far from home often, all these recipes would jazz up an evening on the patio near a fire pit, too. Invite over a few neighbors and make some memories. My thanks to author Emily Vikre, Quarto Publishing Group, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I didn't realize when I requested it, that this was a book for campfire cooking--I just thought it was cozy winter recipes. But, I think a lot of the recipes would work really well as cozy winter recipes, and it you are actually looking for a book of refined campfire cooking, this is exactly what you'd want. Lovely pics and clear recipes! Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Fantastic recipes! Absolutely love this book, it has cocktails which are unique and classics, easy to follow recipes with ingredients that are realistic for most peoples pantries.
Enjoyable assortment of food and drinks to enjoy around the campfire or just a gas fire pit at home. The Marshmallow Mule looks enticing with a marshmallow ginger syrup. There’s campfire baked brie which could be made stovetop with your cast iron skillet. Lots of goodies in this book. One thing I liked was the index which included ingredients. I have milk leftover – is there anything I can do with it? I would recommend this book. It would be a great gift.
Thank you NetGalley and Publishers for the opportunity to read and review! It was a fun cookbook. Organized and intriguing recipes. easy to make as well, definitely have a few I plan to make.
A visually appealing cookbook of campfire recipes for you and your friends/family. I loved some of the fun ideas for desserts like bananas foster and drinks from the simple old fashioned to the neapolitan hot cocoa. I think my one criticism is that some recipes seem VERY ambitious for a camping trip in terms of packing and pulling off on a fire. Would have to be both experienced camper and experienced cook to execute some of these off. So maybe I'm not the intended audience. :) Overall though it's worthwhile for the ideas! I will surely hold on to some of these to try next summer.

This cookbook is amazing, whether it is the pictures, the anecdotes that go with the recipes or the recipes (not that I had time to test them yet but I will definitey next time I go camping).
As mentionned the pictures are gorgeous and really add some personnality to the book and so does the little anecdotes with each recipes that make it more authentic.
As for the recipes, they are mouth-watering, I am particularly excited at the idea of trying some of the drinks , they look absolutely delicious and so cosy. Also, what I loved is that for every recipe you have the instructions to do it 'at home' or 'on the fire' which make it a great book for anyone.
'New Camp Cookbook Fireside Warmers' is a really nice cookbook with personnality and authenticity that everyone will want whether they are outdoorsy or not !
Fireside Warmers is full of easy recipes for food and drinks around the camp fire. The recipes have short lists of easily found ingredients. Also included are drink recipes. The book is broken down into sections. I love the buffet and shareable sections. This is definitely a book I’ll refer to as I’m planning future camping trips.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute recipe book! It includes nice pictures and a variety of recipes. Some of the recipes are a bit more effort intensive than I'd likely try around the campfire or require some equipment that I don't have, but there are tips on how to store your ingredients safely so they're ready to cook which is nice. There are recipes for breakfast, lunch, sharable foods, and more in this book for the ambitious campfire cook!
