This is a delightful web-comic-turned-graphic-novel! Morgana is a young witch who has trouble controlling her powers. When she meets Oz, she accidentally turns him from a vampire into a cat, but is determined to change him back. Adding drama to the story is a missing grandpa, a failing business, and potential vampire-witch war.
I loved the quirky characters and the art style is adorable. Although the plot moves fairly quickly, the author does a good job of showing important details about the setting, while still leaving a little mystery. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but if you don't mind the formatting on webtoons, the next part starts on episode 20. (Which I will be getting to very soon.)
The witches and vampires have been enemies as long as Morgana can remember, and although Mum is trying to make peace with them, something goes horribly wrong. In the chaos, Morgana accidentally turns one of the vampires into a cat and has to start a quest to turn him back into himself.
I love the art style of this graphic novel, and the storyline has the potential to be full of thoughtful perspective. Like many Webtoons-based books, this one picked a spot and simply stopped rather than finding a good place where there's some sort of resolution, which is annoying, but I can always go onto Webtoons to see what happens next, and I'm sure more volumes will be forthcoming. Overall, this is quirky and magical with lots of fun surprises and adorable characters. I'll be looking forward to book two.
Thank you to NetGalley and Webtoon Unscrolled for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
"Morgana and Oz" by Miyuli is a very cute story with such gorgeous art! I really enjoyed the plot of this GN, with all the aspects I enjoy like witches, romance, cats, you name it. I have never read a story like this before so I thoroughly enjoyed the ideas and story line of it all. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this one.
Thank you so much netgalley for sending me this arc ! I have been following Miyuli for a long time and was even around when Morgana & Oz were originally created. I read the comic when it first came out and I am super excited for it to become a physical book. If you like a cute supernatural story with a hint of mystery this is definitely a comic worth reading. I really love Morgana & Oz relationship and Miyuli's art is beautiful. The story is very interesting and I can't wait to see what comes next.
This graphic novel was a joy to read. Morgana (witch) and Oz (vampire) are from two rival clans, and the origins of their feud are yet unknown to the reader. After meeting at a peace dinner that turns into a clash between their clans, Morgana mistakenly turns Oz into a cat and must spend the rest of volume 1 trying to find a way to reverse her spell, but there's one problem: she's really bad at magic. These characters are so funny and endearing, and the art style perfectly suits the adorable and light-hearted energy of the story. Fans of fantasy graphics like Nimona by ND Stevenson and Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker will love accompanying Morgana and Oz on their adventures.
Witch Morgana and Vampire Oz are on opposite sides of a magical feud. When Morgana accidentally turn him into a cat, it could shift the tide towards violence.
Cute art, distinctive characters. Can't wait for volume 2!
This Romeo & Juliet style webtoon is about Morgana, heir to the Winterberry Witch Clan and born enemy of the Red Vampire Clan. She’s a kind, naive young witchling in her late teens struggling to come into her power. On the night of the meeting to propose a treaty amongst the two clans tensions rise when plans go awry. Morgana sets out with her new catty vampire companion to reverse her spell and seek out answers to who caused the treaty to implode.
This webtoon was so cute and a breathe of fresh air! I loved the dynamic between Oz and Morgana and gives me nostalgia from the fruits basket days of Kyo’s relationship with Tohru. It’s so entertaining to see two personalities hard headed on both sides of the spectrum. Born to be rivals but unexpectedly care for each others well being.
I have not yet read the webcomic but absolutely will now!
Obsessed! I need the rest of this webtoon ASAP. The artwork is adorable and the characters and precious. The story is very cute and fun. Morgana is a clumsy out of control witch just trying not to make things worse for her feuding witch family. Her brother mordecai is also seems like one of the good ones, her. Dad is a over the top and suspicious but I do love him. Oz is equally precious even after being turned into a cat. The dynamic between morgana and oz is fun and relatable. I’m excited to see more of them. 10/10 recommend!
Hello Fellow Readers,
Morgana and Oz is a story about a witch who can't really control her magic and a vampire she accidentally turned into a cat. This would probably be an easy fix if Morgana's family were currently feuding and on the verge of war with Oz's vampire clan. So, Morgana has to somehow fix this mistake without letting anybody know about her feline friend's true nature. I thought the story was going to be fun and easy tale filled with hijinks and funny situations but the overarching story is very interesting and I can't wait until we get to the true meat and politics of it all.
Morgana is super cute and relatable, you really can't help but sympathize with her. Oz seems very badass (even as a cute cuddly cat) and their interactions with each other are interesting. I like watching Oz realize certain things about the witching world and Morgana's family that he didn't know before. I also like seeing them learn about each other. I can't wait to see how this story develops and just where Morgana and Oz's relationship evolves.
Overall, interesting and I can't wait to read more.
A young witch struggling to control her powers scrambles to fix her mistake after a chance meeting with an enemy vampire.
I'm not a big reader of Graphic Novels, but have lately been trying to get into them. Morgana and Oz, Volume One is a good representative of the genre! It's an entertaining, easy read that will have you chuckling and happily turning each page until you reach the (cliffhanger) end.
Morgana is adorable and believable as a clumsy, teenage practitioner. Oz is full of understandable angst after his unfortunate run-in with Morgana. And their families, while a little underdeveloped, are made up of unique and intriguing characters with plenty of room for growth. My only real complaint is the ending, which was too sudden and left a lot much unanswered. But I'm still eager for volume two!
Captivating and fun!
Morgana is a young witch learning to control her powers while her family of witches fueds with centuries old rivals, the red vampire clan. After a night of negotiations goes wrong morgana meets and turns Oz the Red Vampire into a cat and must work hard to help turn him back
Hilarious with beautiful artwork and a captivating storyline to keep you on edge
The art style in Morgana and Oz is perhaps some of the best eye candy in my life. The detail, colors, environment, and chemistry between characters is to die for.
The story follows a kind-hearted, naive witch in her late teens who's struggling to keep her powerful but chaotic magical spells under control. She develops a charmingly close relationship with Oz, the youngest - and angstiest - vampire in her region.
We enter the series when the vampires are invited over to the witches' house for a reconciliation dinner after a multigenerational feud. While the house of witches is in a frenzy as it prepares for its guests, Morgana is trying to magic her dinner dress into something that she actually wants to wear. Naturally, the dress goes up in flames (again).
The vampires have already arrived at the dinner table, Morgana is still frantically covering up her mishap in the backyard... right where Oz is standing by as backup - should the vampires be attacked. Morgana is the kindest witch in the history of fantasy, so of course she wants to be friends with Oz when she sees him.
But when chaos erupts inside the house, Morgana spots out a started spell. And suddenly, Oz is gone... and his place, there is only an angsty, pointy-fanged cat.
It's a slow-burn story of young love and friendship with kidnappings, family secrets, werewolves, and lots of humor.
Morgana and Oz is coming out in physical form on September 24th. In the meantime, you can find it as a webtoon. Thank you, Miyuli and Webtoon Unscrolled, for this Netgalley ARC.
I was really excited to receive this ARC from Wattpad Webtoon. It is important to keep in mind when reading Webtoons is that they are released on a weekly format. Storylines can be changed due to audience feedback and popularity. The art style is very cute, and you can see the love and attention to detail the artist put into all of her characters. The artist makes a clear distinction between the vampires and the witches. In the first volume, you the see the beginnings of a plot and conflict set up. The chapters are not very long, so they are very easy to breeze through. On the other hand, this means that there is not much development in terms of plot. In fact, the first volume only makes you hungry for more Morgana and Oz. I am excited to see more of their story develop. Hopefully, volume 2 is released soon!
Morgana and Oz is fun! I'm always glad to see webcomics and or webtoons get physical releases, because it opens up the series to a whole other base of potential fans and this has all the makings of a fan favorite! It's got a nice mix of gothic and cute, and the characters bounce off one another nicely. It was a good time!
Ahhh! How dang cute was the webcomic?! I am so glad it was picked up for actual publication because the story is just amazing. I think it's really enjoyable for all ages
Thank you to Wattpad Webtoon Book Group and NetGalley for allowing me access to this book. I’ve had Morgana and Oz on my “to-read” list on Webtoon for awhile as I’m a big witch and vampire fan and this book did not disappoint. I can’t wait to see where Morgana and Oz’s relationship goes. The Winterberry family is precious! And the artwork? It’s gorgeous.
Will definitely have to hop to the webtoon to find out what happens next!!
A really enchanting read!
I love the artwork and character design in this comic. Everything is wonderfully rendered and colored, the story pacing is very good as well. I admit that I've read this WebToon comic before receiving a look at the advanced copy for the published version - I absolutely adore it as a whole, and still find the story very compelling and entertaining.
I can sympathize with Morgana, Oz, and many of the other characters in the story. Sometimes it takes a while to grow out of that awkward phase where it seems like you can't get anything right for whatever reason. I believe that this volume encompasses just enough of the story to constitute it as an introduction to the comic. You get a taste of what everyone is like, and what their motivations might be. You get a sense of the dangers of the world in which the story takes place, as well.
Overall I think that the story telling, the pacing, the characters, the art - it all blends together for a wonderful read.
If you're a fan of witches, vampires, or just magic in general, I feel like Morgana and Oz is a really good read to try out!
This is a very charming Romeo and Juliet-esque webtoon that was so easy to read. The story focuses on a family of witches who are nearly at war with a vampire clan with a lot of mystique surrounding the two groups. Morgana is instantly loveable in the clumsy way a lot of webtoon heroines seem to be and I was rooting for her from the beginning. Oz is a grumpy but caring even though he doesn't want to male lead. I always fall for the grumpy + trying her best duo that these two end up being so I loved it. The pacing of the story drew me in, but one of the downfalls of turning a webtoon into a graphic novel is no good place to end said novel so the story ended in a really weird place that felt unnatural. That said, with all the questions it left it might make readers pick up where they left off on the webtoon app.
Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I think what pulled me to reading this is how much I love magic and fantasy which you will definitely get a lot of from this graphic novel. It has a cute premise and the main character has a warmth to her. I felt disappointed with the art in certain places, especially because there were some sections that were done so well and other areas that felt lacking. I had also hoped for more complex magic instead of the language used in the graphic novel. It has a cozy fantasy vibe that will definitely intrigue many people. I think ultimately the audience for this is young adult, and it can be a nice introduction to graphic novels.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
romeo and juliet retelling with witches and vampires!! IM SEATED!! this graphic novel was a such fun read!
a good first volume of the webtoon series where it immediately introduces us to the feuding families: witches vs vampires! morgana an optimistic clumsy witch who is still trying to learn how to control her powers somehow ends up turning oz, the grumpy bad boy vampire from the rival clan, into a cat!! the rest of the story follows morgana trying to reverse her spell and help oz turn back into a cat.
this ended on cliffhanger but it definitely has me hooked for the next volume to see what happens next for morgana and oz!
