Graphic novels have a hard time impressing me. Since the prime days of early 2000's fandom when manga really started taking off in the states, I have seen a deterioration in quality when it comes to story / character development. This one is different though. I appreciated the story here as well as the portrayal of personalities that seem more human than artificially stereotyped.
I am surprised to say I'm going to continue reading this series. Maybe I share the author's prevalent love of cats? The cat humor alone has won me over. Combine that with witches, vampires and pseudo feudalism-era Japan style clan wars and I'm a happy camper.
This is a good one, I recommend it.
Thank you to Wattpad Webtoon Book Group and to NetGalley for providing this title in exchange for an honest review.
Morgana and Oz volume one is the beginning of a really cute story. It follows Morgana, a young witch that doesn't have control of her powers yet and Oz, a vampire that Morgana accidentally turns into a cat. Witches and Vampires aren't on friendly terms and being pushed into each other's lives makes it look like each will get a better glimpse of how the other one lives. It's cute and drawn well, the story looks very promising and I'm excited to see how this adventure unfolds.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for granting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is set to be published September 24, 2024.
This might be the start of a new favorite graphic novel series for me! The story starts with a young witch named Morgana, who does not have the best control on her powers. When a clan of vampires come to her family home to try to broker peace, a fight breaks out. Oz, a handsome vampire who is a member of the clan, runs into Morgana and through a spell gone wrong, he is turned into a cat. Shenanigans ensue.
The art style in this graphic novel is gorgeous. The character design is some of my favorite I've even seen, especially Morgana and Oz. I also love how the spellwork is depicted and the colors are also gorgeous. It is also a fun story that I'm really looking forward to continuing.
Also, September will be the perfect time for this to come out because it is giving major fall vibes. I would definitely recommend!
Start of a series. Both sides think the other is out to get them.
Friendship starting between the main characters after a spell Morgana cast turned Oz into a cat that she can only understand.
Looking forward to the next volume
Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad Webtoon Publishing.
I frickin love this!! Morganna And Oz is so stinking cute together. Morgana is a clumsy witch. Which me too. Oz is a vampire. Everything goes wrong when trying to make peace. It unlocks this world of mystery, intrigue, and so much more and I need more.
This was adorable! Love when hidden gems in Webtoon get discovered and published.
Morgana and Oz are adorable and so well matched. I love a Romeo & Juliet story, and this is no exception. Will definitely continue following this wonderful story
4.5*
This graphic novel is super cute! It's a supernatural take on the Romeo and Juliet trope.
Morgana, the witch, lives with her large extended family/coven. I really enjoyed seeing the different dynamics between all the family members. They are each very distinct characters with their own vibes. Oz, the vampire, lives with his non-familial clan which we didn't get to see as much of, so I'm excited to learn more about them in the future. The main leads' dynamic is really sweet, and I can't to learn more about them both. Morgana seems very kind-hearted, but naive, and Oz is more on the grumpy, protective side. This first volume raised a bunch of interesting questions about the history of the clans, magic and curses, and a couple of mysteries that I can't speak further on without spoiling anything.
This was a solid first volume, and my main nitpick is that the ending felt a bit sudden and stilted. (There was also a typo where it said "cars" instead of "cats," but that's not a big deal.)
I'm definitely going to continue on with this series, and I can't wait to see the relationship between Morgana and Oz develop further.
I have been wanting to read this on Webtoons, and the graphic novel did not disappoint! I just need to know what happens next! Miyuli has the start of a fantastic story: we have great characters in the ersatz witch Morgana and the loyal, but confused vampire Oz. The drama is well-set, and the art is simply gorgeous. I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
3.5. A Romeo-and-Juliet style romance where the warring families are witches and vampires, plus a healthy dose of Fruits Basket charm. Like a lot of people I had a really intense Webtoon phase a few years ago, so there's something almost nostalgic about this sort of incredibly light, fluffy, silly story. It feels like you've read it before, even though you haven't; the art, characters, and story beats are just exactly what you expect them to be. Adapting webcomics into published graphic novels poses challenges that this story definitely does not overcome - the pacing is strange and drawn out, and the book ends in a place that feels completely arbitrary. But it's exactly what it intends to be: sugary sweet and easily consumable.
3/5 because it is a solid start with a few hiccups.
I really enjoyed the art and the storyline in this first volume. I am interested to see where the story goes and the development between the two main characters.
I am also curious to learn more about the relationship between vampires and witches and learn more about their pasts. I think the author did a great job in creating a likeable FMC, I also enjoy that she struggles with her magic ( and the understanding that she will grow into it the future).
I think the ending of this volume ended quite abruptly and would have preferred a few more pages to close the chapter instead of ending on meeting a new character. Personally I think this first volume was rather short.
Morgana and Oz is a quirky, sweet fantasy following a young witch and a grumpy vampire as they try to figure out how to break a curse and maybe end a longstanding family feud. Morgana tries her best with magic, but things always seem to go wrong. When she accidentally turns a vampire, Oz, into a cute little cat, things get complicated.
This is a perfect example the grumpy/sunshine trope with Oz as the grump and Morgana as a bubbly optimist. The art is super cute, with tons of expression, colors, and joy! I thought the plot was engaging and the characters even more so. There’s an underlying mystery involving Morgana’s family and the vampires, and her family and his clan both have sweet and sour sides that are shown throughout. I appreciate the lack of clear good/evil vibe in exchange for solid character design and development.
I can’t wait to read more!
First off the art style is adorable and I love the dynamic between the two main characters. The story was interesting enough it was just hard for me to read at times because of the large watermark text that covered the pages.
Thank you, NetGalley, WEBTOON Unscrolled, and Miyuli for letting me review this graphic novel.
Morgana Winterberry is a witch who can’t control her magic. Oz is a vampire from a rival clan. So of course an accidental cat curse has been evoked.
I love seeing WEBTOON comics coming to print, and this graphic novel is a cute read and I’m now obsessed with it.

Absolutely adorable collection of this webcomic! I love Webtoon comics, but had never come across this one. It was adorable and very funny. Very Studio Ghibli in all the best possible ways. My only complaint... and maybe this is because I read an ARC or maybe this is just the artist's style and I just don't jibe wit this one thing, but... when they were sweating, like nervously... the sweat was the same tone as their skin, so it kind of looked like their skin was melting... like in a "I'm made of wax" way, not a horror film way. But otherwise loved this volume, the character design and personality, and the atmosphere.
From the name and the thumbnail I thought that this comic (or at least the first volume) would be a romance. But actually she turns him into a cat??? Lol, it's very cute.
The plot and dialogue are rather simple and stilted, but seem appropriate for children. I like the color palette and the art style, and especially find the cat to be quite expressive.
I can't say that this first volume totally hooked me, but I wouldn't mind reading more. The whole thing takes about 45-50min to read and I think that it's cute enough to be worth that amount of time and doesn't over stay its welcome.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book before publication.
There’s some great content on Webtoon that is getting published into physical books, and I’m glad this is one of them. I always enjoy a vampire and witch story because both sides are so different from the other and their relationships are fascinating. I liked the awkwardness of Morgana, the main witch character, as well as Oz, the main vampire character, who seems to be more open minded than the others. Although, that could just be because of the situation he has found himself in. The world building in this is a little slow, but the peaks we get into it help move the story along while retaining some suspense.
I felt that the ending to this volume was rather abrupt and not as smooth as a normal cliffhanger, so just be aware of that. I’m really looking forward for the next volume and will be purchasing a physical copy of this when it’s out.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This was cute! It's only volume 1 so there's not much going on, but I loved the art, I like the characters so far, and it was just adorable.
It was a little annoying to read because of the watermarks, which also get in the way of appreciating the art, but I liked this and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes.
Morgana and Oz is a very cute tale of a young witch and the vampire she turns into her familiar. While the Winterberry clan invites the rival Red Vampires for a tete-a-tete to end a years long feud, Morgana is busy hiding a dress she has accidentally burned to a crisp, and Oz is lurking in the shadows as backup muscle. A few stray spells, a missing grandfather, a blood curse later, Oz is a cat and Morgana is working to reverse the spell.
This is a cozy-cute story that is toted as a Romeo & Juliet remix, but its more of a buddy-cop comedy. There's a nice mystery with the missing grandfather and the source of the feud, but the pacing is a little slow and redundant in the first few chapters.
A 3.75/5 and I will be reading the next volume.
4 stars - It was really good
Morgana belongs to a long line of witches, but she isn’t a very good witch. She struggles with her magic and frequently makes mistakes. While her family is supposed to host peace talks with the rival vampire clan, she makes the acquaintance of the vampire Oz. When things go sideways at the peace talks, her magic backfires and accidently turns Oz into a cat and now she has to find a way to turn him back and try to bring peace between their two clans.
This was a wonderful start for a new series. Morgana and Oz may be enemies but Morgana judges people by their actions and she doesn’t view all vampires as bad. While she does accidentally curse Oz, she does everything she can to fix him, and I love watching their friendship grow as they get to know each other.
While this is only the first 19 episodes of the volume, it was a great start for the first volume and a lot happens to get you sucked into this story. I am very curious to see what will happen next with Morgana and Oz after they have escaped the vampires and if they will be able to stop the war that is brewing between their two clans. I am going to have to read this on Webtoons to find out what happens next because I don’t think I can wait till volume two comes out, especially since this ends in a cliffhanger.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this!!!! The art style of this is super fun and really cute. There is a lot to love in this. The witch coming into her power (or not), a sulky vampire, and a family that seems to really love each other. This is only the first volume so I will be needing to find more of this.
