This was very cute. It definitely felt like a common webtoon, though, with simplistic art and story. It could use editing down in the number of panels to make the story move at a better pace. Some parts took up way too many pages (first dinner with Dad and Oz) while others were whip fast (every actual conflict). Nevertheless, it was fairly wholesome and I love a fun forced proximity story.
(I took a peek at more recent episodes on Webtoon and the art has definitely improved!)
5/5. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A witch clan, a vampire clan....both at odds with each other and bracing for an all out feud. Morgana the witch and Oz the vampire cross paths, but she accidentally turns him into a cute little cat. Now they need to work together to fix everything and stop an all out witch-vampire war.😻🧛♀️🧙♀️
Loved this, but already knew I would. The art style was adorable, the plot was fun and I definitely will be buying this when it comes out!
Thank you Netgalley & Wattpad for the arc!
This one was cute! I love the illustrations and plot line! I wish it ended in a different spot, but it will definitely get the teens excited for the next installment. I have already preordered this one!
Morgana is a witch from a historic family and Oz is a vampire from a rival clan. For years their families have been feuding with each other, but after an incident during a peace negotiation, war is almost inevitable. Morgana, prone to mistakes when doing magic, accidentally transforms Oz into a cat. Trying to change him back uncovers some truths and mysteries long buried.
I really enjoyed the first volume of Morgana and Oz. The art is really cute and casual. The character designs are great and I really love the emerging storyline. I understand that this volume is from an ongoing webcomic and it makes me want to head over to webtoons to read more.
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
I loved the art, it was one of the main reasons I requested it. The story was cute and very easy to read and the ending will have you wishing for more! Luckily it's a webtoon so there are ways for us impatient people. I can't wait to see where this story goes.
Loved this, it’s such a cute story and I really like the art as well. I cannot wait for the next volume. I loved our main characters and cannot wait for a potential friendship/romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and Wattapad Webtoon Book Group for granting me access in exchange for an honest review.
Morgana and OZ is probably one of the sweetest reads I have read in a while. This is a story about young love friendship and acceptance.
Morgana is a sweet naive witch who does not have the greatest control of her magic. OZ is of course a very angsty vampire. Their two families are feuding and they are stuck in the middle. These two are just so cute together and you can't help but root for them as their relationship grows.
The artwork is just beautiful. There is so much detail in the backgrounds. the facial expressions I just could not look away from the page. It really shows that the artist put a lot of love into their work. The world building does take some time. The story can be slow in some places but overall a good read. It does end on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to need more.
Definitely recommend for people who love a sweet charming read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an EARC of Morgana and OZ.
Reading this took me less than an hour, but damn it will stay on my mind for longer than that. I immediately need the next volume so that I can find out what happens with Morgana and Oz. Graphic novels are such a big pull with teens and young adults nowadays that every single time I find one that really interests me I get really excited! I always try to recommend the ones that I read to people who come into the library, so will definitely be purchasing this one to add to our collection.
Also that witch at the end??? Yes please. And thank you :)
I want to thank Netgalley for giving me permission to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
Happy Reading!!
First and foremost, thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
I love anything with witches and vampires, so I didn’t think twice about reading this one. The art style is gorgeous, colorful and full of the enemies-to-lovers extravaganza I absolutely adore (very Romeo and Juliet, by the way). The interactions between Miranda and Oz were really cute. The plot happens quickly, in a succession of events that just keeps you reading, unable to stop. It is a true magical and cozy manga, and it’s the perfect start to what you surely become an amazing series.
I absolutely loves this story! It's fresh and fun and so darn cute! I can not wait to read the next book that comes out!
A fun graphic novel inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Vibrant supernatural characters abound, as this is a story that revolves around the feud between witches and vampires.
I absolutely adored the interactions between the cat and the dad. It was so spot on that it had me bursting with laughter.
But... The ending.... What the hell?! I know this is intended to be a series, but there was zero resolution. It was midstory when it just stopped. Up until the ending, I loved it. But the ending seriously pissed me off.
Lots of potential here, but I will wait until the whole series is released, so that I can consume it all at once.
This one was so cute! I adored the art style and the plot was amazing, it gave Romeo and Juliet and I loved it. Thank you to netgalley for sending this my way, I had a great time reading it.
4.5* This has so much potential going forward! I really loved this! First of all the art is amazing and so cute. If anything, get this book for the art. But the story is also amazing. Basically a witch/vampire retelling of Romeo and Juliette. Morgana is such a sweet, optimistic girl. She struggles with her magic but she doesnt let it get her down! I love seeing Oz watch her and start to realize that she is not the evil witch hes told she and her family are. I definitely feel like there is a bigger misunderstanding going on between the families and am interested to see where it goes.
The first book in a graphic novel series, for me, is always the weakest. Since you really dont know the characters yet, but I really enjoyed this one! Would recommend to anyone who is interested in witches, fantasy, retellings, and graphic novels. Honestly I love this art!
Thank you to NetGalley, Miyuli, and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun read that’s great for the Halloween season with a sprinkle of magic, witches, vampires and cats! One night, the Winterberry Witches and the Red Vampire Clan gather to make peace amongst themselves, however things go awry quickly and Morgana accidentally turns Oz into a cat amidst the scuffle. Now, as the two try to find ways to undo the spell, they slowly begin learning about each other and that maybe making peace isn’t such a bad thing.
I read this series on the Webtoon app first before picking up the first volume. The experience of reading in a vertical scrolling format is much different than reading in a book with a horizontal layout. Although each page is full of color and there’s minimal white space, I personally felt the story was a little less enjoyable. There seemed to be too many colors per page, making it more noisy and cluttered. Also, many panels were resized given it’s a different format that’s justifiable, but some panels felt understated.
That said, the artwork will always be one of my favorites. It’s playful with all the colors; it exudes a soft and warm feeling; the characters are highly expressive; sceneries and backgrounds are detailed but don’t overshadow the foreground; and the flow of the story is coherent. I also love the height difference between Morgana and Oz, with Oz being slightly smaller in height. The character designs overall are quite nice and they seem to have a more rounded feel to them.
The plot of this book could be said to be a rendition of Romeo and Juliet although it’s not heavily prevalent. The story primarily focuses on Morgana, her unstable powers and trying to undo the spell on Oz. The romance is evident but still in its early stage and I feel like it won’t be the main focal point later on. The story has many interesting events all hinting at the intertwinement of the Winterberry Witches and the Red Vampire Clan in a recent past. The story has quite a fast pace so I’m looking forward to the unwinding of these mysteries.
The characters are all lovable. Morgana is a pure hearted, innocent hard worker. It’s hard not to love her character because she knows when she’s messed up and needs to step back. Oz is also a cute character and although he seems rough in the beginning it doesn’t take long for him to show his soft side. I feel like Oz has had a tough childhood given some of his remarks and expressions, but it’s not clear at this moment. Also Oz is very cute as a cat! Another favorite of mine is Mordecai because he’s a really sweet and supportive character. I hope we get to see him more.
Overall, I enjoyed this volume and will be looking to continue this series. I’m glad it has a print version because I will absolutely be looking to have this on my shelf. It has many cute, comedic and warm moments as well as equally having some doubtful, dark and stressful moments. I would definitely recommend giving this story a try!
Cozy, witchy, and adorable. I loved this so much I highly recommend it!! I wanted more after finishing it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
I love that Morgana is clumsy with her magic, her flaw makes her character more interesting. I’m looking forward to knowing more about Oz!
This was cute. I wanted more as soon as I was done.
Morgana and Oz is a cozy, witchy, and clever story about a witch and a man from the vampire clan.
One night during a peace treaty the meeting goes wrong. Amidst the chaos Morgana’s grandfather goes missing and in a nervous attempt to flee two new acquaintances she accidentally turns someone into a cat.
While waiting for the spell to be fixed said mystery cat gets glimpses of life for the witches and quickly realizes things aren’t what they seem.
I loved the art style of this Webcomic, the outfits, and the color choices. Perfectly moody and fall’ish.
There is not a single boring character in this series, each have their own unique personality .
Morgana and Oz is perfect if you love grumpy vs sunshine trope, witches, vampires, light hearted , fall vibes, cozy, funny, and cute.
I have to find the rest of the series to devour now !
It's been a LONG time since I kept up with webtoons that I was surprised they started getting printed/official releases. Morgana and Oz is one of those webtoons unfamiliar to me and thus the power of NetGalley/advanced copy reading.
Stereotypical fantasy races like vampires, werewolves, etc., are not usually to my taste, but I wanted to tackle this book to see if it could be one of my few exceptions. In short, it did. A large part due to the world building, art style, and characters.
The world building between witches vs. vampires in an established, mutual tension with each other sold me on the genre that I usually don't delve into these days. When attempted negotiations go awry, Morgana (witch) and Oz (vampire) have to attempt to find a resolution to resolve this. An "enemies-to-lovers trope" story that understandably seems to gained a lot of traction with a gorgeous, art style, vibrant colors, and the titular charming duo.
Upon re-reading this, shifting between computer vs. phone/mobile reading, etc., it's surprising to see how the story/comic format is able to work both as a binge read and a chapter-by-chapter/episodic read. It's clear the author, Miyuli, took great care to layout the webtoon style and pace it as both successes. An accomplishment, by itself.
The story didn't 100% convert me to a "vampires, witches, and such" fan, but it remains to be a story I was glad to read and might go for more. I wish the rating system allowed a 4.5 instead of strictly 4-5. Thank you again to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for approving this advance read.
This was cute. Very Romeo and Juliet with a twist. I felt the ending was pretty abrupt, I know it is volume one but it still felt pretty sudden. I did enjoy the story though and the little insights we get into this witch/vampire feud. I just wish it was a bit longer or had a better ending for the first volume. I would love to read the next part though!!!
EEEEK! This was so cute and exactly the vibes I was looking for to get me ready for fall. The illustrations are so well done, the story compelling, and the dialog is SO FUN! You won't want to put it down as it's a light and easy read.
