This book is a perfect blend of instruction, inspiration, and creativity. Embroidery can often feel intimidating for beginners, but Anderson's structured approach demystifies the process. The book kicks off with a comprehensive overview of embroidery basics, ensuring that even those who have never picked up a needle can feel confident in getting started. From gathering supplies to setting up your hoops and prepping your threads, every detail is covered.
The heart of the book lies in its day-by-day challenge format. Each day introduces a new stitch along with a corresponding embroidery design that features that stitch. Whether you're stitching flowers, birds, houseplants, or rainbows, the projects are designed to be completed in an hour or two, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. As the days progress, so do the complexity and creativity of the projects. By the end of the 30 days, you will have a rich repertoire of stitches and designs, culminating in a collection of beautiful, display-worthy pieces.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
This book was easy to follow. For sure a good starting place to get into embroidery. The instructions were not confusing or complicated at all. You could totally do this for 30 days to challenge yourself to take time for a hobby everyday.
If you want to try embroidery, 30 DAY CHALLENGE: EMBROIDERY is a wonderful starting point. Each day, you’ll learn a new stitch & an embroidery pattern where you put that stitch to use! Instructions are easy to understand and the projects are wonderful!
Jessica Anderson's new book with easy embroidery tutorials, examples, and patterns is a must have for budding embroiderers, those looking to refresh their skills, or to teach someone new embroidery stitches.
It has been a long time since I've done any embroidery, so I was excited to read this book. Each stitch explanation and example was easy to follow, and it made me more excited to try embroidery again.
The pages, explanations, pattern examples were colourful, but not overwhelming. I also really liked the motifs she chose to highlight. The book also felt really accessible for both beginners and those looking to brush up on their skills.
I'll definitely be adding this to my book crafts library.

This book is a lovely collection of embroidery projects that are easy to follow and also quite inspiring. I would definitely recommend to anyone new to the craft.
For any crafty or creative individual, this is a fun way to build a habit to embroider or hand stitch every day. Each "day" covers a different stitch. I especially love that each stitch introduces a piece that covers a variety of styles and themes; some are whimsical and fun, geometric, and realistic.
It had been years since I did embroidery and I LOVED having Jessica's book to remind me how much I enjoyed it. She does a great job in introducing each stitch and how to build from that on each project. There are patterns you can print out and put on your fabric transfer paper which I had never done before and loved learning all of that! I highly recommend this book if you are interested in learning embroidery or need a refresher on how to do it. Also, highly recommend following Jessica on both Instagram and her website because it's a great resource for crafts that she shares.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group and Jessica Anderson for this ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
A beautifully presented book consisting of everything you need to learn embroidery, set out as 30 projects, over 30 days, covering 30 stitches. Ideal for someone who has never embroidered before, each little project introduces a new stitch for you to learn. At the end of the 30 projects there are 2 bigger "bonus" projects that put together what you have learnt over the 30 projects.
This book as a modern feel and everything is clearly explained. All the templates are included at the back of the book and instructions on how to use them.
I love all types of sewing, but hand embroidery really is fantastic for wellbeing and inspiring creativity. This book is full of beautiful embroidery ideas, for making everything from toadstools, to rainbows. Each stitch you’ll need is introduced and taught with accompanying photographs, and the actual patterns are clear, simple, and easy to follow - perfect for a total beginner or experienced sewer alike. You can follow the patterns exactly, or use the skills to create your own patterns and ideas. I love that you can turn your makes into finished, wearable designs. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.

4.5 Stars
30-Day Challenge: Embroidery is a beginner-friendly, fun, and challenging book. I'm completely new to embroidery, and I was able to follow along. This last book helps the reader explore a variety of stitches and techniques by building on skills one day at a time. I learned a few things! I'm currently in visual therapy for a concussion. So, I moved through this book at a slower pace. I'd highly recommend this book if you want to learn embroidery.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing, for providing me with an advance review copy for free in exchange for an honest review.

This book is really beautiful- I’ve done quite a lot of embroidery before, but I still learned quite a few things from it!
I think it would suit a beginner, but also someone who wants to get back into it (me!) or someone who just wants some inspiration.
Thank you NetGalley for a review copy of this title.
The projects are very good for beginners and the images chosen are very bright and colourful. A little simple if you are already embroidering but a good starter project book.

If you've always wanted to learn embroidery but didn't know where to start, then The 30-Day Embroidery Challenge by Jessica Anderson is the perfect book to kickstart your creativity and get those needles stitching! One thing I loved about The 30-Day Embroidery Challenge is its flexibility. While the book suggests doing one project per day in order, you can totally go at your own pace. Pick and choose the projects that catch your eye or fit your schedule. The choice is yours!

The 30-Day Embroidery Challenge is an appealing and well laid-out embroidery tutorial manual by Jessica Anderson. Due out 30th Jan 2024 from Quarto on their Quarry imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. This is a sister volume in the 30 Day Challenge series from the same publisher with other habit tracking and creativity prompts.
This guide presupposes no prior knowledge of embroidery on the part of readers. She has included a short pictorial intro for tools and materials as well as how to get started with the challenge. There are many (many!) online resources and youtube as well for readers who are starting without any support network, which can help a lot. She covers very basic supplies as well as transferring designs and tension hoops, etc.
The following chapters include 30 project tutorials including a new stitch-per-day. All the projects are small and very colorful. The author has included 2 bonus projects at the end which combine some of the earlier techniques and stitches and are slightly more complex and will take longer than a day to complete. There is no index included, but the table of contents includes a thumbnail gallery of color photos of the projects with page numbers. Full size templates are included in the book, along with a QR code to download the templates and additional materials electronically.
It should be noted that this book is about surface embroidery, not cross stitch. It's lovely to see tutorials and and upswing in interest for the other fibrearts; it seems like only cross-stitch had any following for a long long time and it's nice to see surface embroidery enjoying a renaissance.
Wonderful skill building tutorials. Four and a half stars.
