I was able to listen to an eaudio arc of this thanks to NetGalley. A fun romance. Love Christmas/holiday romances. Great read. Would read more by this author.

Calista and Tristan are in-love but Calista is from the wrong side of the lake and Tristan's parents have a ridiculous amount of money and a knack for making people's lives miserable when they don't get their way. Now, years later, Calista is doing something she swore she wouldn't, she is moving back to Aspen Lake. Her brother-in-law has passed away and her sister and niece need her to keep them together as they grieve. Unfortunately for Calista, her late brother-in-law is the brother of Tristan. How will this go? Calista left as a crazy "trouble maker" but is returning as a respected emergency medicine doctor, will that be enough to keep Tristan's parents off her back? Even if she is never EVER getting back together with him?

I enjoyed this one, it was a good story. I liked the narration too but if you're a stickler about men doing women's voices just skip it because Wayne doing a woman voice was hilarious. You've been warned so don't ignore it and then trash the book because you didn't like it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

My ex-Mas Emergency was a relatively quick fun, low-steam holiday romance, with small town vibes, a second-chance romance, and a mischievous meddling niece (who plays Cupid). Calista, former wild child, returns home to her small mountain hometown as an ER doctor. She's determined to leave the past in the past, but when she learns that Tristan has always regretted letting her go, she finds herself wondering if maybe she's willing to give love a second chance. Sometimes, an easy, predictable romance is just what the doctor ordered, and this one definitely fits the bill. Perfect to listen to while cleaning the house or driving around running errands--easy to drop in and out of, "entertainment lite."

The audiobook, narrated by Wayne Mitchell and Kim Churchill, brings this dual POV romance to life, although Mitchell's "female" voice was a tiny bit cringe.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Thanks Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

A wholesome fun Christmas novel. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrators voices played well off each other. I enjoyed listening to this while wrapping Christmas presents, and it definitely helped put me in the mood for the season.

Calista Monroe grew up known as the wild child from the other side of the lake. Now an adult, she’s returning as the hospitals new ER doctor. When her niece Quinn begged her to return home she couldn’t say no. Quinn has her own plan to get her Uncle Tristan back together with Calista but Calista holds a strong grudge for how their relationship previously ended.
He’s determined to figure out a way to win her back.

This was my first Jennifer Peel book and I would definitely try more of her books. The fact that Tristan speaks in third person was annoying and I didn’t think the narrator for Tristan was a good fit. When he tried to do a female voice it just made me cringe. I did enjoy the narrator for Calista but not the character herself. She was still very childish for someone who “grew up and became a doctor”.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for my audio copy.

"My Ex-mas Emergency," by Jennifer Peel delivers a delightful romantic comedy filled with humour, heart, and a touch of holiday magic. Calista Monroe, the town's once-notorious wild child turned ER doctor, finds herself back in Aspen Lake for the holidays after her brother-in-law's passing. What follows is a charming tale of second chances and the unexpected twists of love.
The story unfolds with a quirky and memorable opening scene featuring Calista at a funeral in an elf costume, setting the tone for a lighthearted and enjoyable read. Calista's return to Aspen Lake is met with unexpected challenges as her past clashes with her present, particularly in the form of Tristan, the man she loves to hate. The plot cleverly weaves together elements of enemies-to-lovers and second-chance romance, keeping readers engaged and invested in the characters' journey.
The dual narration by Calista and Tristan, presented in first and third-person perspectives, adds depth to the storytelling. Calista emerges as a strong and independent heroine, while Tristan's charismatic personality and genuine love for his niece make him a compelling character. The witty banter, palpable chemistry, and well-developed supporting characters contribute to the overall richness of the narrative.
The author successfully navigates the enemies-to-lovers trope, allowing the characters to evolve naturally and making their journey towards reconciliation and love feel authentic.
The supporting characters, particularly Jules and Quinn, add depth and warmth to the narrative, creating a sense of community and family that enhances the overall reading experience. The closed-door romantic scenes contribute to the charm of the story, making it suitable for a wide audience.
My Ex-mas Emergency," by Jennifer Peel is an entertaining holiday romance. With a perfect blend of humour, chemistry, and festive cheer, this novel is a delightful addition to the genre, making it a recommended read for fans of romantic comedies and second-chance love stories.

The only thing that should improve is the male narrator. When he narrated the parts of Quinn it was very disturbing.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC.

My Ex-mas Emergency
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Author: Jennifer Peel

I requested an audio advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: Very few in Aspen Lake expected that I, Calista Monroe, their most notorious wild child, would ever amount to anything besides being a model prisoner. So imagine their surprise when I returned as the hospital’s newest ER doctor. Believe me, no one is more surprised than I am. I had vowed to never return, even if it was the last safe haven during the zombie apocalypse. But when my niece, Quinn, begged me to come home, I couldn’t say no. My plan is to stay out of trouble this time, and above all, avoid Quinn’s uncle Tristan—the man I love to hate and the reason I left Aspen Lake.

But trouble starts to brew when my niece gets it into her pretty head that her uncle and I need to reconcile. The devious little thing insists we deck the halls together all season long. And since I’ll do anything to make Quinn happy, I agree, believing I’m completely immune to Tristan’s charm. Except the joke’s on me. Who knew that Tristan’s biggest regret was letting me go? And the infuriating man seems willing to do everything possible to win me back. Well, it’s going to take a Christmas miracle for me to give him a second chance. Unfortunately for my plan, our chemistry could set a blizzard on fire. Now I have a major ex emergency on my hands.

Do I give my niece her Christmas wish, or do I let the love between Tristan and me flatline once and for all?

My Thoughts: This was such a fun rom-com at just over 8 hours, I was able to finish in less than two days. The opening scene was Calista at her brother-in-law’s funeral in an elf costume, with an opening like that, you know you are in for a fun read! Calista and Tristan loved each other as teens but ended badly when Tristan broke it off with Calista, when the town did not think Calista would make anything of her life. Calista showed them by becoming a doctor. Calista is truly the crusader for those who can’t. Fast forward many years and Calista’s niece, Quinn has begged her to come home with her father passes. Calista lands a job at the local ER and moves into her sister’s house to help temporarily. Quinn keeps her mind busy by meddling to get Calista and Tristan back together. Calista does not want anything to do with Tristan, she can resist his charm… This follows the tropes of enemies to lovers and second chance romance.

It was a dual narration by Calista and Tristan, from their respective perspectives. Since the enemy part was really one-sided, we get Calista’s POV from 1st person and Tristan’s POV from 3rd person. Calista is fiercely independent, determined, sincere, stands in her truth, and was devastated when Tristan broke her heart over a decade ago. Tristan is charming, charismatic, loves his niece dearly, and thought he was doing the right thing when he ended it with Calista over a decade ago. The characters were developed well with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and were intriguing. I really connected with Calista, she made the perfect heroine. The chemistry between Calista and Tristan is off the charts, even if she swore him off forever, the chemistry reunites them. The supporting characters were fabulous as well, especially Jules and Quinn. The author’s writing style was complex, closed door, funny, swoony, and kept me engaged cover to cover. Peel is an amazing storyteller, with the ability to capture you and draw you into the story. Since it took a took awhile for Calista to begin to forgive Tristan, there is no third act breakup, and HEA is so sweet and heartwarming.

The narrators (Wayne Mitchell and Kim Churchill) were fabulous. They had amazing pitch, flow, they were smooth, and easy to follow. Their voice variation was distinctive. I was able to listen at 2x with no issues at all. This is a closed door romance, that does not have steam and spice, however, the kissing scenes are so noteworthy that you don’t miss the steam. While I read both type of romances, I lean on the closed door romance as I find they can be steam-worthy without the spice. This was the perfect holiday feel good book. I am so hoping for a Jules book! I highly recommend, not only during the holiday season, but anytime.

You can’t go wrong when you pick a Jennifer Peel Book! Mini Review: This was officially the last book I finished before the new year rolled in. It was in audiobook form. I really enjoyed the narrators. Calista is returning home after years of being away. In her youth she was considered the wild child but she’s returned as a respectable ER doctor. She returns to be with her niece who asked her to come. She has a few goals while in town stay out of trouble and avoid Tristan, Quinn’s uncle and her Ex. This becomes hard with Quinn begging for an old time family Christmas and wants her Uncle to join in the festivities. The goal becomes almost impossible when Tristan becomes determined to win Calista back and Quinn doing her best to play matchmaker for the two. Will Calista be able to keep her word and stay away from Tristan. Along the way Calista realizes she doesn’t hate the town she left years ago and she makes some new friends along the way. This story comes with a cute matchmaking teen, some very cute kittens, and an elf costume. It also takes place in Aspen Lake and if you’ve read “The Holiday Ex-Files” or “A Pumpkin and a Patch” you will get some really great cameos. The story reads as a standalone and it’s not necessary to read the other books but for those who have read them it will make you smile. In “My Ex-Mas Emergency” you will meet Calista’s new friend Jules who might just be a spy. And Jules book comes out today. Title “Forgettable in Every Way” so you might want to check that one out too.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC. I loved this ex to lovers trope. Calista is back home and runs in to her ex, who is also her dead brother-in-law brother. She is trying to start a new life taking care of her niece, who wants an old fashioned Christmas and maybe a aunt and uncle reconciliation. The audio was wonderful, a must listen.

This was a cute story with fun characters. Nothing too unique but it was a fun listen and cute for the holidays.

This was a quick, fun holiday read. The FMC wasn't my favorite but overall I enjoyed the storyline as a nice, clean holiday romance. If you're looking for a Christmas vacation book, this would be a great place to start.

A bit cliché, nothing spectacular, but it did pull me in and it was fun, so. All in all, I'm happy with what I got 😀

This book actually helped me lighten my mood while I was going through some stressful things, and I loved it for it. It was engaging and compelling, with small-town holiday vibes and a predictable but cute second-chance romance.

I have a couple more books by this author on my shelf and now I can't wait to read them!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the early copy!

This was kind of a Christmas story, but these two frustrating leads and their stubbornness really took centre stage. It just wasn't what I was expecting. It felt repetitive for a good chunk of the book, as the characters just kept doing/not doing the same things.

The female narrator was good, but the male narrator was very distracting. He narrated the teenage niece in a way that made her sound like a 4-5 year old which really took me out of the story.

Calista's wasn't a favourite of the community so when she came back to her hometown after years away, not everyone was thrilled. She wasn't thrilled with seeing her ex Tristan but their niece Quinn definitely pulled out all the stops to get them together at every turn. I loved how Tristan put all the effort into winning her back though she did make him work for it 😂

While I enjoyed the story, I did find Quinn to be a little bit immature for a fifteen year old. I also lost interest halfway through but finished it anyway.

I listened to the audio and the male narrator just didn't do it for me. In some parts he was unintelligible and his lady voices were grating on my nerves 🤭 The female narrator did an awesome job though.

Another thing that confused me was Calista's POV being in the first and Tristan's being in the 3rd person but I eventually got used to it 😅

Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ALC in exchange for an honest review.

"Christmas is just another word for love.”

Oh my goodness! I love second chance romances and this is a great one plus it's a Christmas romance. I don't think I've ever read a romance that starts off at a funeral, and to have the heroine in a pink elf costume . . . well, I had to find out what that was all about.

Tristan broke Calista's heart 13 years ago and now that she's back in Aspen Lake working as an ER doctor it's going to be hard to keep her promise to never look at him again. Especially when their teenage niece asks for a traditional Christmas and keeps coming up with reasons they need to spend time together.

Tristan had his work cut out for him, as Calista had built up quite the wall surrounding her heart and she wasn't giving him the chance to hurt her again. I loved how Tristan was patient with Calista--he remembered what he'd said to her--and knew it was going to take some time to get her to simply not hate him anymore. I like how he was with his niece Quinn and loved when he followed through on the threat he made to his parents if they tampered with Calista's job at the hospital.

Calista is the best!! I'd love to have her as my doctor. She was so caring and listened when people talked to her. She'd worked hard to become a doctor and you could tell she loved her job. I loved her friendship with Jules and hope Jules gets her own story (hint, hint). I liked how much she cared about her sister (who needed to get her act together) and Quinn. I really liked that Calista didn't get back together with Tristan within the first half of the book--he needed to work for forgiveness.

Things I loved:
🩺 Super swoony
🩺 Forced Proximity
🩺 Second-chance romance
🩺 ER visits
🩺 Dual POV
🩺 Calista & Tristan's reconnaissance mission
🩺 Cameos of Reese and Josie
🩺 No 3rd act breakup!

I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator for Calista. I found I liked the narrator for Tristan better if I sped it up a little, especially when he did the female characters.

I received a complimentary copy from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I had high hopes for my listen of "my ex-mas emergency" after reading the blurb and discovering there was two narrators for dual pov. However; the male's voice sounded very nasally and I couldn't "buy in" to the story I was listening to.
