Solid 4 1/2 stars. I've read/listened to several books from this author and enjoyed them all. The style was different. The female chapters were 1st person, and the male chapters were 3rd. It's not something I've ever seen. I listened to the audio and preferred the female narrator. The male did well for his own parts, but ibwasnt crazy about his teen or female voices. Very enjoyable story that had many layers, and a surprise appearance from another book of hers, which I enjoyed.

I liked the premise and enjoyed the first half more than the second. My issue is some of the problems they face are ridiculous and they are all resolved nearly instantly. Now, I hate when things drag on forever, but this was the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
For example- let's look at Skip and that arc. First of all, from the moment they discover his identity <spoiler> that he is a scam artist and wanted by police</spoiler> to his arc ending is all of two chapters. And half of that has nothing to do with Skip. Secondly, the whole plot is ludicrous. <spoiler> They could have just called the police. No one will fault someone for discovering a scam artist is a scammer before they get scammed. Ugh. </spoiler> There are several other story elements that are equally quick and/or ridiculous.
I have a high tolerance for believability in fiction, but this book more than tested my limits.
The story is told from two POVs and the audiobook has dual narrators. Kim Churchill narrates the majority, in Calista's POV. No complains. Wayne Mitchell narrates the remainder as Tristan. His voice in dialogue- all dialogue, but especially female dialogue- is painful. Quinn's dialogue may have been the worst. She sounded four, not fifteen.
If you had asked me about the book at the halfway point, I'd be more complimentary. It just seemed to "jump the shark" around halfway.
For those who care to know- this is a clean romance. Nothing more than kissing happens.
I received an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet holiday story about a second-chance romance set in a small town. I liked the main characters, especially Calista. She's a former wild child who became a successful doctor and has moved back to her home town to care for her niece. I aspire to be a cool aunt like that someday and thought Calista was a great role model.
This isn't too long and it's a cute story for the upcoming season. Narrator Kim Churchill did a fantastic job, but Wayne Mitchell had a terrible 'girl' voice that was whiny and made each woman sound like a five year-old. I wish he'd just kept his regular tone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the copy.

Coming back home after many years, Calista Monroe should be coming back to fanfare as an accomplished ER doctor but instead her history with the town haunts her, though she wouldn't leave her niece and sister after a major death in the family brings them back together. With the past love of her life, his overreaching family, and a town with a long memory get the better of her or can she stand her ground?
This was a cute story with a few twists that pulled me in. Surprisingly hard to put down. I'd love to come back and meet some of the characters better or hear their follow up stories.

My eX-Mas Emergency by Jenifer Peel was a 4.5 star read for me. The dual narrators helped bring the characters to life.
Calista used to be a bit of a crusader when she was younger and developed a reputation in her home town. She moved away and became a doctor, but a family emergency forces her to go back to her home town and work in the emergency department while trying to put her sister and niece back together. She does all she can to stay away from her ex, who happens to be her niece's uncle, but her niece has different plans for them.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the copy of the audiobook. All opinions are my own. #JenniferPeel #myex-masemergency #NetGalley #DreamscapeMedia

I love a good small town holiday romance and this one hit the spot.
Calista Monroe, the former town wild child turned ER doctor, returns home to support her sister and her niece, Quinn, after her sister's (cheating dog of a) husband dies. She wants to be there for them, especially through the holidays.
Her pseudo aunt helps her get a job at the local hospital. People remember her for her teenage antics, but she's hoping they will accept her back as a professional at the hospital.
One snag is that she cannot avoid seeing the ex who broke her heart, Tristan, as he is Quinn's uncle - brother to her sister's husband who passed away. Tristan never got over Calista, and is determined to right the wrong and win her back.
As her sister becomes more distant, Calista and Tristan pick up the parenting of Quinn, which only pushes them closer.
A great holiday read, well done audio! Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ALC in exchange for my honest review!

It's a very basic story but let's be honest, I'd you're reading a book like this you don't care about originality. You just want something easy and enjoyable. This is for you then.
Just don't do the audio book. The male narrator killed this for me. He sounded like someone trying to artificially make their voice deep while simultaneously doing a Don Knotts impression. It was awful. He sounded like Adam Sandler was doing his moron voice and sucked down some Sulfur Hexaflouride. Read this physically.

An adorable holiday romance!
Calista heads back home to Aspen Lake after her brother in law dies to help out her sister, Stella, and niece, Quinn (which is very much needed). Tristan just lost his brother and is also helping out with Quinn.
Quinn is determined to bring Calista and Tristan back together, and I loved her little plots to bring them closer. Calista and Tristan make a cute couple and I appreciated the way they dealt with the past and accepted that one "sorry" wasn't enough to get the job done.
There is a little bit of family drama, but it worked out as it should.
The female narrator was excellent, the male narrator did not do a good job with the female voices. If this is a thing that really bothers you I would read the book in print.

This is a review of the audio copy, I feel like it's never a good thing when I have to specify and that’s the case here too. This is one of the few times I wish I read a book instead of listening to it.
I really enjoyed the story. Calista returns to her hometown of Aspen Lake after the passing of her brother-in-law so she can help with her niece Quinn. Unfortunately, not many people are happy with Calista's return. Even though his passing is tragic you find out that Quinn's dad was not a great person or father, but his brother Tristrian was great at stepping in. Tristian also happens to be Calista's ex who she wants nothing to do with.
The story revolves around Quinn helping her uncle Tristian come up with a plan to win back Calista. Quinn is a fantastic character and she was definitely my favorite. I like Tristian and Calista but Quinn stole all the scenes she was in.
I was pulling for both Calista and Tristian to find happiness. I loved how this one came together in the end.
The biggest issue for me was Wayne Mitchell’s narration. This was a dual POV and I was so much more invested in Calista's POV simply because of the narration. Wayne did voices for other characters which were bad enough that it pulled you right out of the story. His normal voice was tough too. He put inflections in strange parts of words and it was just hard to focus on what he was saying. I hate when this happens and I really hate to not like someone's work. This is a book I recommend you read and not listen to.

Thirteen years ago, Calista’s heart was broken by Tristan and some harmful words were said. Now she’s back in the town she swore she’d never live in again to help her fifteen year old niece, Quinn, who just lost her father, Tristan’s brother. Quinn has a plan to get these two back together, no matter what, and with a little Christmas magic, she might get what she wants.
i listened to this on audio, i wasn’t crazy about the male narrator. i thought the storyline was cute, very predictable but a nice hallmark-y type of cute book. i wasn’t crazy attached to any of the characters. this is a clean romance second chance romance & given the right audience i would recommend it.
3.5/5

There are SO many holiday romances and I've been duped before by a cute cover... but this book is DEFINITELY worth the read!
FMC Calista returns to Aspen Lake where she swore she'd never go and does everything within her power to avoid her ex, Tristan, who of course, appears at every turn. It's a second-chance romance with some enemies to lovers sprinkled in. There's also quite a journey that Calista goes through with returning back to her hometown. Overall, a feel-good holiday story and one I'd recommend.
I received the audiobook ARC from the publisher and NetGalley. Wayne Mitchell was not my favorite narrator for some of the book... especially Calista's and Quinn's voices. I thought Quinn was much younger for most of the book because I associated her voice with a child's given the way Wayne brought it to life. It wasn't bad on audio, but it's one you could opt to read instead!

This is a cute, easy read for the holiday season. I kind of hated the male narrator, so I was glad he wasn’t the only narrator of the book.

A fun and delightful holiday listen. These characters are filled with so much sass, banter and fantastic dialogue….so many laughs, tender moments and fun holiday adventures.
Calista and Tristin have a past that did not end well. Calista is back in town and refuses to look at Tristin…the scenes where she is avoiding looking at him are so funny.
They have a common love at that is their niece, Quinn. She is a scene stealer and I loved her energy and determination to get these two back together.
Wayne Mitchell and Kim Churchill deliver an amazing performance. They bring the perfect emotion, personality and voice to each character.

Reading Method: ALC via @netgalley
🥰Enjoyment: Ah! I did not expect to love this one as much as I did. It was funny and endearing, but still had a fair amount of angst and groveling (second chance). I haven’t read many this year yet but so far its my top Christmas read.
📖 🎧 Writing &/or Audio Style: Writing - Loved it. I just thought the story was very well developed, something that’s under developed in holiday reads, I laughed, I emoted, and I just overall had a really good time. A
Audio - Female Narrator? Great, perfect performance, really gave life to Calista. The Male Narrator however should be forbidden from voicing female roles. I’m actually shocked that he didn’t ruin the story for me, a bad narrator has done so before.
👥 Characters & Relationships: I’m not normally a huge fan of Second Chance romance, but this one *chef’s kiss*. Rooting right along side (their niece) Quinn for Tristan to win Calista back.
⁉️Plot, Intrigue & Logic: The plot packed a lot in, and kept me super engaged all the way through.
🏞️Atmosphere & Setting: Pretty good. I def had the vibes for where this was set.
🚨 For Reader Awareness: Clean romance (Kisses only), mentions of non MC cheating, alcohol abuse and pretty terrible parents.

My ex-mas Emergency was a quick and cute holiday romance! I received it as an audio ARC and was able to get through it in one sitting. It is a nice, cozy, and clean romcom (no spice sorry) that was the perfect palate cleanser if you're in between books. Yes, it was entertaining... and so sweet it'll give you a toothache. It was full of tender moments that'll make you swoon. Unfortunately, I can't say Callista was a favorite character of mine, and honestly, I can't say I had a favorite. I wanted more... but overall, it was an enjoyable read but I can't say it's a memorable one (I am so sorry!). The narrators did a fine job bringing this story to life. Just remember we all read different books, and you may just love this one more than I did.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC and the chance to listen and review it honestly.
Happy reading!

This story was a fun one that kept me listening happily start to finish. The "bad girl" from HS come back to her old town to take care of her niece, whose uncle just so happened to be her goodie-goodie rich ex-boyfriend. It was comical, yet predictable, but I loved the characters.
The biggest problem with this story was the male narrator. His voice for his 15 year old niece sounded like a petulant 6 year old and honestly one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. His voice for all women actually was pretty bad, but the teenager above all. This voice as the lead male was deep, and soothing, but honestly I would have over all preferred someone else for his part. The female narrator did a lovely job.
Overall a fun listen, though I'm not sure I'd recommend. Likely better in print.

Thirteen years ago, Tristan Granger made the worst mistake of his life. Now that Calista is back in Aspen Lake, he’s out to prove how sorry he is, how much he’s changed, and that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get back the woman he never stopped loving.
Calista Monroe however still finds Tristan an infuriating man and is not interested in getting back together. She states ~ “It is going to take a Christmas miracle for me to give him a second chance!”
Calista is a Doctor and came back to Aspen Lake as her brother-in-law died. Although Calista always thought he was a jerk and didn’t deserve her sister; he is the father to Calista fifteen year old niece who she loves so accepted a position in the Emergency Room at the local hospital.
Hmm it seems their chemistry is still there and Calista has an ex-emergency on her hands.
This was so enjoyable! Love Calista and was sure she would pull everything together.
Her sister is a mess after her jerk of a husband died – only thing that saved him is he did leave his wealth to her and Quinn.
(I did laugh out loud when Calista referred to Stella's relationship with the gold digger as a ‘Dumpster Fire”!)
Have to admit I am a narrator snob. I love audiobooks but also love a good narrator.
To me it would have been much better with one narrator. I typical love when there are multi narrators performing the characters but Wayne Mitchell’s interpretation of Tristan didn’t work for me. However when Kim Churchill performed Tristan it was so much better.
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audiobook.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for December 5, 2023.

My Ex-mas Emergency by Jennifer Peel is a cute 2nd chance Holiday Romance. It is told in a dual POV and is clean with no closed door scenes (just kissing) and has mild language.
Calista Monroe returns to Aspen Lake after 13 years of getting her heart broken by Tristan. She goes back to help with her niece after losing her dad, who was also Tristan’s brother. Calista was known as the towns wild child, but is now an ER doctor. Tristan’s parents have a lot of pull in town and will do anything to keep Calista and Tristan apart.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first read from Jennifer Peel and certainly won’t be my last! I’ve had several of her titles on my TBR for a while now and can’t believe it took me this long to finally read something - I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Callisto and Tristan’s second chance, small town Christmas romance was definitely a unique storyline, with their joint 15-year old niece stealing a lot of the show (how adorable was Quinn!). I can’t think of any other book that it was similar to, which made it a breath of fresh air in a romance world full of overdone tropes and reused plots.
I definitely recommend this book to all as a great addition to your Christmas TBR for this season - especially the audio! Both Wayne Mitchell and Kim Churchill were new voices to me, and while it took me a while to settle into their styles (and I’m still not sold on his female voice), they did a good job.
I received an advance listen copy from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, and this is my honest feedback.

The Narrators of this book were Wayne Mitchell and Kim Churchill. While Kim did a great job with the voice, Wayne's pace was too slow for me - I had to increase the speed on the audiobook for it to sound like a regular pace when he was speaking.
This is a second-chance romance - Tristian made the biggest mistake of his life when he was young by choosing his family and money over Calista Monroe. She has never forgiven him; fortunately, through his niece Quinn, he can make some headway in getting that second chance with her.
This was a great story - I did find Quinn a bit annoying, but I was invested in everyone's story and journey throughout this book.
