Ada is looking for a fresh start away from her home in California and failed marriage. She finds just the place to start out on her first large home design project at a ranch in Meadowlark, Wyoming. What Ada did not expect was the sizzling chemistry between her and her new boss and ranch worker, Wes.
This story was sweet and the romance was ❤️🔥 sizzling! I loved all of the side characters, and I cannot wait to read each of their stories as this series progresses. I love how the author represented a character with depression and how it's not always telling that a person is going through that.
"Honestly, I never would've guessed that was something he dealt with. Wes looked so happy. But I guess depression wasn't really about what you looked like or how you appeared but more about what you felt like."
Wes was so sweet to Ada and even when she (literally) would run away, he was waiting for her. "The little things are the big things, Ada. They're the things all the big things are made of."
It has been a long time since I have read a cowboy romance, but I think I need to read more of these.🤠
I adored this book! I’ve been on a kick with cowboy type books and this was just amazing! I loved Ada and Wes!! It was just in awe! This was also my first book my Lyla and for sure will be reading more of her in the future!! Can’t wait for the next book!!!
Swift and Saddled by Lyla Sage
spice: 2.5 /5
I loved Done and Dusted so much I of course I had to try and get my hands on Swift and Saddled
First off I love the cover! Its so old school and Ada is just perfect in it
Wes has to be one of my favourite book boyfriends, golden retrievers are so underrated. He was so sweet and I loved how his depression was never something that defined who his character was, and Lyla Sage wrote that part in so well. I loved Wes's quiet confidence in Ada, that was probably my favourite part.
I’m not generally a fan of third act breakups but this book did it so well, it was sweet and just so perfect for who the characters were
I am soooo excited for Teddy and Gus's book!
"Listen. I didn’t come here for some stupid ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’ Fantasy. I came here to do a job.”
"You say you’re not nice, or warm, or bright, or any of these other stupid fucking words that people used to describe the sun, but I never asked you to be the sun. I would rather have the moon anyway.”
"I’m the moon?”
"You’re the moon. And I’m the tides. You pull me in without even trying, and I come to you willingly. I always will.”
I loved this book! I really liked how Ava and Wes meet. Ava arrives to Meadowlark for a job, and the night before she’s starting to work, she decides to kiss the hot cowboy who caught her eye. She then leaves embarrassed and abruptly, hoping never to see him again, when the next day she finds out that he’s her boss. I loved how infatuated Wes was of Ava. I liked that he realized to give her space and let her make the first move, while still showing her that he’s interested in her. I loved all of the gorgeous descriptions of the mountains surrounding Rebel Blue ranch. It now makes me want to go to Wyoming! What made this book so amazing was how swoony Wes was! I loved when he took care of a baby calf or how he taught Ava how to drive a stick shift so she wouldn’t feel trapped with no working car. It was the little things that made him so amazing! I also liked how serious he was on trying to make the relationship work with Ava. He knew that she was it for him and he would do anything to make it happen. Yay for no third act breakup!

4.25 ⭐️ Buckle up for a cute cowboy romance at Rebel Blue Ranch. Wes, a golden-retriever in chaps, and Ada, a black cat who was way too relatable, had the cutest story and made me want to be a part of the Ryder family. I cannot wait for the next book with Teddy and Gus. Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This book was so, so sweet! Wes was a precious male lead and Ada was his perfect balance. I love how Lyla Sage creates such a homey atmosphere at Rebel Blue Ranch, especially with the development of not only the main characters, but the side characters as well.
I do wish there was more detailing of Wes and his battle with depression. The plot felt a bit rushed at times. Ada’s internal dialogue felt very authentic to her character. I really loved the scenes with all the characters present. The resolution of the book was very sweet as well.
Each installment in the series leaves me so excited for the next one!
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the digital ARC of this book!!
4.5 stars!
LYLA SAGE... I love you so much. I didn't think I was a cowboy romance girlie, but here we are. Lyla Sage changed my mind. I am absolutely obsessed with Wes and Ada and I would die for them. Their love story has burrowed its way into my cold heart. Ada has been hurt deeply in the past, so she has walls a mile high erected around her to protect her from harm. This makes her appear prickly on the outside. She is recently divorced from a guy who wasn't worth her time and controlled every facet of her life. She has grown to accept less than what she deserves from life and from love. Enter Wes. Wes is sunshine-y on the outside but is fighting off some major depressive feelings on the inside. I loved Wes so, so much. Just the gooeiest of cinnamon rolls, that guy. I loved the mental health representation where Wes's character is concerned. Lyla Sage has many frank conversations in this book about depression, being medicated, and how medication impacts s3x drive, which I feel is not talked about enough! MORE OF THIS IN ROMANCE, PLEASE!! Also? A+++ dirty talk. I am not a huge fan of the insta-love aspect between the two of them, but I can forgive it because this book made me laugh, cry, and feel again. Good work, Lyla Sage! I cannot wait for Gus and Teddy's story!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Keith Rosson, Random House Publishing Group, and Dial Press Trade Paperback for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
I loved this! The mental health rep for a main character was extremely well done and fresh. I think Lyla's sophomore romance was one of the best, it was sweet, cute and too the point.
This second book in the series is just as fun and sweet as the first. I love the setting, the family and friends surrounding this book.
I love a chance meeting and then finding out who they really are the next day and then the forced proximity. Their relationship was pining, sexy, and full of tension and I enjoyed every moment of it.
I am excited to continue this series and all the characters in it.
This one wasn’t for me, sadly.
But I know a lot of people who would eat this up.
Personally, I wish the story went a little deeper.
Swift and Saddled starts off promisingly with a captivating storyline that drew me right in. However, as the story progressed, I found myself a bit disappointed. It became a bit cringy and the spicy scenes fell flat. I was really disappointed with Ada's character as she starts off seeming very confident and as the book progresses she is plagued by insecurities. There is nothing wrong with that, it just didn't fit her initial behavior when the book started. For example she seemed very confident and independent in the bar scene when she kissed Wes, but then she goes on to act very weak.
With all this being said, I admit I did not read Done and Dusted first, I'm not sure if my feelings would have been different, but I did feel regret for not reading it first.
Overall, the story was not at all bad, I quite enjoyed it, its a quick read and although some parts I did not enjoy, it still left me engaged. I would recommend to fans of "the Edens" series as it has a similar vibe, just a little more lighthearted.
[muffled screaming]
OH. MY. GOD.
The second instalment in the rebel blue ranch series was nothing short of perfection.
Maybe it’s because i’m also a middle child or because i don’t understand how to make adult friendships, but Wes and Ada just completely stole my heart. I love love looooved their sweet, soft and patient love story.
I really enjoyed how the story followed the renovation of Baby Blue. The whole ranch and the “big house” really felt like one of the characters - I loved all the subtle touches and nods to the history of Rebel Blue as a whole. It really made this book fit into (what is going to be) a larger series.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series and honestly Lyla Sage could write medical pamphlets and i’d read those too.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Dial Press for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4.5⭐️!! i love wes and ada so much!! i loved being back in meadowlark! everything about this is perfect. i relate to ada on so many levels, i love how layered her character is. i love how she encompasses what a strong and resilient, yet soft and intricate woman is. not only did she deal with an awful ex, but she found herself again through the hardships she encountered. and wes?? he was DOWN bad for her and i ate up every second of it!! he was the perfect gentleman/ cowboy! i also admired the mental health rep done in this book and how much it flowed with the storyline and wasn’t just thrown in. amazing job lyla!!
The perfect soft and sweet romance story. Wes and Ada are meant to be. This book does start off steamy and I’m here for it!
Ada comes from big city and is hired as interior designer to overhaul Rebel Blue Ranch. She was hired by Wes Ryder. They have to work together for all the design projects. There is chemistry. He’s golden retriever and she’s black cat. He is patient and kind with her. This book was everything. All the stars for this romance and second book in the Rebel Ranch series. Many thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Random House, Dial Press Trade Paperback and NetGalley for the digital review copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Lyla Sage returns to Rebel Blue Ranch with Wes & Ada's story in her much anticipated follow up to Done & Dusted. I enjoyed the mental health representation in this one and who doesn't love a hot cowboy?! I'll be eagerly awaiting book 3 now.
3.5 stars
Thank you to Random House for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
HUGE thanks to NetGalley (and of course Lyla Sage herself) for the ARC of Swift and Saddled. Oh boy where to begin?
Swift and Saddled is the second book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series and I have to say this book exceeded expectations. I adored the first book in the series and thought there was no way it could be topped but here we are with Ada and Wes. The perfect combination of black cat meets golden retriever. I love how patient Wes was with Ada and never once gave up on her, even when she became her own biggest enemy.
I rounded this up from 4.5 stars because I just had such a good time reading it and really fell in love with the characters, but I do wish a few things were added. Why did Ada's ex call? What did he want? I'm dying to know. I also appreciate the fact that Wes dealt with depression, I just wish it was explored a little bit more.
Overall, such a fun read and I cannot wait for Teddy and Gus to get their book!
I LOVED this book! Wes is my new favorite love interest! Ada + Wes' relationship was so genuine + showcased so many real issues past trauma can cause. Also it was so fun that Emmy + Luke from Done + Dusted were such a big part of the book. This family's dynamic is so precious + watching as they bring Ada in was so heartwarming. I will forever read Lyla Sage's books!
I read this as a standalone. I somehow had never heard of the first book - done and dusted. I most definitely will be picking that up now and reading it. This was my first cowboy romance and now I’m a huge fan. So cute and charming. Not too cheesy. Just great. I anticipate a third book in the rebel blue series.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital arc.
I think I might've loved this book more than the first. I mean, I DEFINITELY enjoyed this book more.
Great Mental Health Rep in this book and that's probably one of the top reasons why I enjoyed it so much.
The tropes and micro-tropes of this book is what really hooked me. Here are some of the tropes that I really fell for in this book:
- Black Cat x Golden Retriever
- Found Family
- He Falls First
As usual, I'm a sucker for a dual POV book, but another thing I love about Swift & Saddled is the MMC. He's just the perfect guy. I've never been into cowboys but I'm into Weston Ryder! Super relatable, and his family is just so lovable. I really cant wait for the next book!
I do enjoy the fact that the author really gave more than just their story but a bit of his sister's and a hint at the next book in this series.
Ada is also relatable despite her past. She's got this thing about her that I feel like makes her quirky, but she's mainly a "sweetheart".
I really adored the way their story was told and how they made it to each other. The romance was romancing and the spice, the spice was there!!
Definitely a five star read, three spicy peppers, and 100% recommend to everyone!
4.5 stars! This was so great. I really liked how respectful and honest Ada and Weston were with each other. I also love a book where depression is talked about so frankly and not seen as something shameful. Ada was an amazing character that was so easy to relate to, and I loved the banter between her and Wes. Spice was amazing, as was the romance. Cannot wait for the next addition to this series! *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
