Very helpful and very informative. Will recommend to others.
Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ARC of this book
I have always been into reading books of self help or issues that interest me & this was a very interesting book, about learning about the vagus nerve and how it is responsible for allot of things inside my and some ways to reset or just to have better control over it but this has also helped me connect with my body more in a way as well.p
I read the Vagus Nerve reset as a digital book and gave it 4 stars. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for kindly allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Going into this book I was really interested by the blurb and so was excited to see what the book would be like and after reading it, I'm glad I did. There was some information I already knew due to previous learning from school, however I'm glad I did know it as I think it helped me understand the information even more, although the information itself for me was quite digestible and I did enjoy how it was broken up into different sections and also parts and phases. There was definitely a lot of new information and techniques that I learned from this book and will be taking away with me. Overall, I did really enjoy this book and will be recommending to other people and will also be buying so I can reread in the future and also continue to look at the parts that I want to look at whenever I need.
This book has been so helpful for me. It is a great tool to help you actually process trauma and release it - FOREVER! I had lost hope that I would be able to move past some painful experiences, but this has given me the tools to do just that. I highly recommend reading it.
as a woman with PTSD, this book was genuinely so beautiful and so helpful, in a way that most self help mental health books aren't
Thank you to NetGalley for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Interesting book on the Vagus nerve. This had some new and useful information I didn’t know before, including the concept of vagal tone and how to measure it (something called heart rate variability), and the fact that we actually have 2 vagus nerves.
Also an in-depth but not too complicated explanation about how the nervous system works, whether it’s regulated or disregulated, and how to fix that. Although I did at points find it repetitive.
A very informative introduction to polyvagal theory and the different aspects of the nervous system. I enjoyed the refreshing focus on somatic therapy in contrast to the common talk therapies that are often in the lime light. I have picked up several new techniques that I will add to my arsenal of life hacks.
This book offers a detailed program for those of us whose stress response feels like it’s going haywire too much of the time (e.g., you're stuck in fight, flight, freeze, and fawn). Drawing on a blend of somatic approaches (elements of EMDR, somatic experiencing, and polyvagal therapy all make appearances), this therapist-crafted book offers lots of explanation and DIY exercises, much of which is science-supported but lives a little outside of current consensus. Most powerfully of all, she also shares her own harrowing stories of trauma and healing throughout the book.
While I enjoyed that that the first quarter of the book is informative, I felt the rest was repetitive. It was unfortunate because there was good info lost. This might be a good place for someone to start on their trauma work but the actual ‘Reset’ program fell very flat for me.
Really enjoyed this read. I found it so practical as well as being backed up by evidence. It's not easy making the topic of the vagus nerve exciting but Anna Ferguson has managed to do so.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about CBT, yoga, meditation and mindfulness based practices.
I am very interested in nervous system regulation, and this book has tools in it that I will be using long-term. I appreciated her background and her plan for working with the vagus nerve.
I found it so helpful to understand how the vagus nerve can be stimulated to help with chronic fatigue and breathing. I have long covid and have developed asthma and chronic fatigue as a result and really value techniques that can help me cope with that.
Anna Ferguson's book presents a practical approach to understanding and utilizing the body's innate ability to heal through somatic therapy. As someone on a journey of healing, particularly after experiencing trauma, I found Ferguson's personal narrative relatable and comforting. The blend of scientific insights and actionable exercises offers valuable guidance for individuals grappling with nervous system dysregulation, whether stemming from past traumas or ongoing stressors. Though certain sections delved into technical details that slowed down the reading experience, the plethora of practical suggestions for integrating these techniques into daily life provided a roadmap for supporting nervous system health. Overall, this book serves as a helpful resource for those looking to foster resilience and alleviate anxiety by deepening their connection with their bodies.
This book provides easy-to-follow exercises to train the nervous system to respond calmly to stressors. While the book provides valuable insights and effective techniques, I did find it dragged at times. However, its thorough explanations and helpful exercises make it a worthwhile read for those seeking to understand and improve their nervous system function. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.
After recovering from Long Covid and being diagnosed with Nervous System Dysregulation, I was so excited to receive an ARC of The Vagus Nerve Reset. I’ve been following Anna Ferguson on Instagram for a couple of years, so I was beyond excited when she announced her upcoming book. She always shares such helpful tips, so I couldn’t wait to dive in!
I truly loved that Anna shared her story. It makes this feel like more a guide, rather than a manual. Not that there’s anything wrong with a more technical book (the nervous system is pretty technical, after all), but her story makes her more relatable.
I really loved how practical this guide is! It was both interesting and enjoyable to read. If you’re struggling with nervous system issues, I highly recommend adding this book to your wellness arsenal!
So many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so informative. I have been fascinated by the vegus nerve recently due to personal trauma and disregulation and this book was a wonderful addition to my collection of knowledge.
The Vagus Nerve Reset is a practical how to guide to calm our body and reduce anxiety. It is therapy in a book and I really liked some of the tips. It is laid out well and is easy to follow. I plan to purchase a physical copy so that I can refer to it easier later.
"Brought to you by Penguin.
Harness the power of your vagus nerve to reduce stress, overcome anxiety and release past trauma."
As some who works in the Mental Health field I am delighted to learn more about the Vagus Nerve and it's role in holding and releasing anxiety. I also enjoyed the practical applications that anyone can use to help calm their nervous system.
We've had this book in store and have sold quite a few copies already! I found there were so many passages that I highlighted for future reference and I have definitely recommended it to customers.
In starting this book it was good for the Author to share her past and what she went through to then lead to a vagus nerve reset. The early chapters delve into people that experienced trauma needing to reset the vagus nerve. Then throughout the book she talks about PTSD, childhood trauma and other traumas once experienced needing this reset to help their body move forward. There was quite a lot of scientific speak that at times slowed me down. I wanted to read this book because due to a health issue, I have had a few practioners mention that it might be helpful, but it wasn't caused by trauma so I found myself thinking this book might not be for me. Toward the end of the book there are lots of helpful and lifestyle changes to help your body feel better to support your nervous system and vagus nerve on a daily basis. I will for sure try some of these.
This is a great intro to the Vagus Nerve and you'll find many suggestions to help if needed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC copy.
