This book has a solid plot with unveiling secrets but I found both main characters, Connor and Addison to be unlikeable and immature. That said, the banter and snarky remarks and quips were well inserted into the writing. Some of the plot was a little repetitive and the travel that occurs over the chapters can be a bit hard to follow but it made sense as each character continues to dive into the mysteries and secrets of their jobs and pasta. Phineas was a tough character to like and the body shaming undertones were uncomfortable at times but I felt it was a true representation of how character. I would read another book from this author as I overall enjoyed the writing.
Addison is a top public relations specialist working toward partnership. When one of her clients, Phinneas, is found dead she is one of the suspects. Connor is a private investigator and Addison’s lies forced him into retirement. Connor has the job of finding out if his only client’s daughter is being cheated on while trying to avoid a bookie looking for money from him. Years ago, Addison and Connor dated and they find themselves looking at some of the same people to solve their problems.
Addison and Connor’s relationship is complicated but adds a lot to the story. Three of the people they want to question are dead. Addison is out for herself and so is Conner. Connor needs to salvage his career and his efforts are many. I liked that the story took them to several places. There are a lot of secrets to uncover.
I felt like this was super hard to keep my attention. There were a few POVS with different time lines. It made me feel scattered reading it, but it did have a good story line. The main character (Addison) was very unlikeable.
