I have no desire to track my reading or set goals, but if I did, this would be a super cool journal to use! Looks about as thorough as a person can get.

I'm a big fan of trying out different ways that I can track my reading, so I was excited to see that We Are Bookish came out with a reading journal! And while this journal isn't one that I see being my new main way of tracking my reading, I do think it is one that I'll incorporate into my own reading spreadsheets.

I received this as some kind of free gift from WeAreBookish. Unfortunately, after attempting to download it several times to my NetGalley (NG) app, it never showed up in my NG app. While I can certainly download it as a pdf, and going through the pdf file to familiarize myself with what the journal had to offer, I don't really see it as something I would use to keep track of the NG books I read. Both my NG shelves and my Goodreads shelves are sufficient for keeping track of the NG books I have received and read. Additionally, my Kindle devic.e allows me to save notes and highlights on my Kindle device. Lastly, I maintain my review drafts in MSWord until I am ready to post them.

Would it be nice to maintain all of that info in one application? Sure, but this journal doesn't meet that need, at least not for me. Having said that though, I would be interested in knowing if other NG members find this application condusive to what its purpose is supposed to be. Personally, I found it cumbersome, and not as easy to use than all my current applications altogether. I'd like to refrain from rating this because, for me, it's truly a DNF, but NG doesn't allow that. So, I'm just going to rate it on WeAreBookish's attempt to provide something useful that I didn't find useful.

This is a terrific journal that would be fitting for MFA students in Creative Writing who want to keep track of their reading, their tastes, their specific thoughts on books, especially as they prepare to enter the literary world. In the programs in which I teach, we stress the importance of being "good literary citizens," in leaving feedback for authors and publishers, as one day, this is something they will want and need for their own books. The journal format would allow them a specific place to write down their thoughts, which they could then translate into reviews, whether in print or online or on a booksellers' website. .Five stars!
