Absolutely loved this book. It originally seemed to be a slow burning story but suddenly, it ignited into a remarkably sinister and harrowing tale of secrets, lies and consequences.
The reader is literally bait and once hooked, well, there is simply no escape.
Brilliantly written characters and shocking revelations, this one is well worth a listen.
Beautifully narrated by Rachel Atkins who has a natural ability to breathe life into the pages make this audiobook perfect for when you want to sit back and relax, despite the tense and chilling storyline.
Highly recommended and worthy of 5 stars.

I found this a little confusing and convoluted at times - I wonder whether the plot needs tightening but I enjoyed it

I just reviewed The Night She Lied by Lucy Dawson. #TheNightSheLied #NetGalley

A web of lies will always end up unravelling when given enough time.

The moral of this story is that the memories of abuse never die in the victim. It’s something they carry around with them forever. Damage Done.

The narrator of this audiobook was excellent and really made the characters come alive. When a story has a great narrator it can literally lift the entire tale and I would highly recommend this one!

Enjoyable audiobook. The narrator was very good! It was a good thriller and if you are a fan of courtroom dramas you will enjoy at as there is a good part of that too thrown in. It kept me engaged from the start and it made me want to keep listening to see what happened

The Night She Lied
Lucy Dawson

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a much slower paced psychological thriller than I'm used to reading but I have to say that it worked so well.

The writing was just stunning! There was so much detail in every event, character and setting that just captivated me right from the start to the end. I could not stop listening to this!

I'm not going to talk about the plot at all as there are so many twists and turns that other than re-telling the blurb, I couldn't tell you anything else without giving spoilers - there was so much going on and so many connecting details that they just have to play out ....and surprise you!

There were quite a number of characters to get to grips with. Some of whom, I could not stand!!
Now don't take this the wrong way - they were just perfectly mean and nasty. A little stereotypical in the case of Margaret and her husband - but for the plotline to work, these traits were needed.

Jude, our main character, was a little unpredictable - but I put this down to the fact she was under such stress and pressure, both at work, through lack of sleep and with subsequent events.

The supporting characters were amazing and all played their part well.
I loved Johnnie - such a great character all round - putting everything aside so that he could do his job properly but I really felt for him as you could just see how it was all hurting him too.

The narrator did a great job distinguishing between the characters and presenting the story for us - I could have listened to them all day (actually one day, I actually did!)

A brilliant read - loved the storyline and characterisation and cannot wait to read more by this author!

I enjoyed this story although I felt it dragged in parts and could have moved a bit quicker. The narrator of the audio book was very good.

First of all the narrator did a really great job in presenting the characters. I loved the way she played Lady Margaret - totally reflecting her nasty personality.

I was confused at the beginning when Jude was on-duty in the hospital but receiving a call from her mother and asking for help, then her mother said she didn’t call her. But the story then getting better and clearer.

The twist was surprising and it left me stood there with shock. I didn’t see it went like this..!

Thank You for the review copy.

I enjoyed this book from the word go. Jude and Margaret kept me hooked. Margaret more than Jude I think. I loved the kind of tension shown between the mother and daughter.

The twists and turns, the back history, the setting, the characters - everything pulled me in.

It was gripping till what happened at the end. I'm not too sure, I understood that. I feel the end was rushed.

So, I will say it was good but could have been even better, if the end was better explained.

However, I would still say this is worth a listen.

I liked this story, it kept me guessing, although I'm not sure how believable it was really.
The characters were well portrayed, but what an awful woman Margaret was.
I listened to the Audiobook. At first I thought it was bizarre with one narrator but I got used to it, and the different accent / tones.

The one negative point I would make is the constant use of 2 words, which made me eye roll every time I heard them - incredulously and empathetically. Just a bit too much.

My first book by Lucy Dawson, really enjoyed this audio version, I as other people were confused by the ending and not certain what ‘the lie’ was.
I didn’t like the character Margaret, she was nasty to everybody, but think that may have been due to her having quite n affluent but sad life, She was a troubled woman who was driven by what others had done. There was no excuse though for how she treated her daughter. I liked Johnny and hoped that he would get together with Jude.

Thank you to bolinda for their arc of the audio book, which I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the narration with the different voices of characters.

I found this a bit confusing at the start and hard to get into but I’m glad I stuck with it. Lady Margaret really made the book for me.

From the first page of Lucy Dawson's "The Night She Lied," I was completely hooked and unable to put it down. The complex story is filled with secrets and lies that keep you guessing until the very end.

I was captivated by the characters and their struggles as they navigated through their fears, doubts, and hidden truths. Jude, an A&E nurse, takes center stage in this gripping rollercoaster of emotions. Her trusting nature proves to be her downfall as she gets caught in her mother's twisted schemes.

Margaret, Jude's mother, will stop at nothing to make a historic sex crime accusation go away - including using blackmail against the accuser and his family.

Then there's Rik, a man with a troubled past and a hidden agenda who inserts himself into Jude's life for his own gain.

The story is told from multiple points of view and jumps between different timelines. The past events intertwine with the present, resulting in devastating consequences for more than one character.

But as the saying goes, things are not always as they seem. By the end of the book, everything becomes muddled and confusing. Even after listening to the final chapter twice, I still felt like I was missing something.

Narrator Rachel Atkins did an excellent job bringing the characters to life, particularly Lady Margaret's character.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bolinda Audio, and the author for providing me with a free audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 ⭐

The absolute highlight of this audio for me was Lady Margaret.... she was central to everything , but her toxic behaviour and offensive comments made her every appearance quite entertaining.
Lots of twists along the way, and by the end I'm not really sure what did happen to Richard.
Some tough subject matters, and unlikeable characters, made for an interesting listen.

I’m undecided on my views on this novel to be really honest. I was gripped but also extremely confused. The characters were utterly deplorable extremely unlikeable even Johnny who seems to have come good, and the ending left me completely unsure as to what the truth actually was. Needed a trigger warning for child sexual abuse.

Thank you to NetGalley and bookature Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Night She Lied by Lucy Dawson, an audiobook narrated by Rachel Atkins an insane psychological thriller with so many twists and turns that your jaw will never leave the floor!
I listened to nearly 200 audiobooks this year and this was one of the best audiobooks I had this year!
Rachel Atkins, seriously! You managed to deliver this journey in such a way that I would struggle to believe there is just one character/narrator!
If we talking about the book... Oh, Sweet Peppermint leaf... this was a crazy, unexpected journey with a twist that I would never guess! And it's just one of the many!
I loved this book inside out!

Jude's life is shattered when she is accused of murder which she resents is su!cide! Sadly there is one to believe and Jade is going down for the murder....
Margaret... I don't know how many of you know Hyacinth, The MRS Bucket but Margaret just sparkled that character in my mind and I couldn't undo it!

This is one of the best audiobooks that I ever listened! The narrator managed to create the room in a way that there are multiple narrators! Perfect!

Thank you, NetGalley and Bolinda Audio for this fantastic audiobook!

This was weird and so sad. I was both confused and enthralled through all of it. I did find the mother's evil to be a bit much. It was completely unbelievable, but entertaining. I loved the narration.
