1 found this book really slow paced and it really didn't get me interested in at the beginning as I was confused if it was supposed to be a mystery / thriller or even psychological.
I had to read till the end as I wasn't sure where the climax of the story was but certainly was the killer actress and not just because of her acting

This was an action-packed read from start to finish based in the lights of the theater world. Jemima Evans is on her way. She just needs that one part, that one role, to get her noticed. When Sheridan Productions, with the famous Rebecca being director, chooses Jemima for a play, she will start the role of her life. Little does she know, this role may be one that really does change her life.
This story was a bit thriller, romance, and drama. It had elements of all. I found it to be twisty with an action- packed story line and an intriguing set of characters. The world of drama and acting is well portrayed and you get a look at some of the behind the scenes drama that can arise. I wish it had more thriller elements, it seemed more romantic drama till the end.
Overall, I enjoyed this story. It was written well and kept me guessing till the end.

I more so skimmed this book because I just didn't like it. Rape, murder, back stabbing, entitlement. The characters were very unlikeable and whiny and entitled. I know some of this is normal in the "acting world," but just didn't care for it.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It takes a while to build up, but the tension ratchets up, as you go along. The lead character was sympathetic to start with, but as the story progresses, her motivation becomes clearer. The backstabbIng and bitchiness in the theatre/acting world was very well described and kept me interested all the way through. Highly recommended.
Its really hard for me to get enveloped by a mystery or thriller. Maybe its my impatience. But Becky Alexander has written a memorable story. I'm partial to stories involving the entertainment world so I was interested throughout my read. Enjoyable read!

Excellent read! This book had me hooked from the start...I couldn't put it down. Brilliant twist at the end, I never saw that coming.
I look forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommended
Initially I found it hard to get into as I started quite slow but when the pace changed it was really gripping!
Jemima is desperate to break through as a working actress but everyone and everything seems to be against her until she attends a very strange casting for a 2 person play and lands a part with a dream production company.
Focus is strongly on the hidden world of the actor, castings, rejection, rehearsal and the dinginess of the backstage world, almost to the detriment of the plot.
For me the pace was quite slow, the darkness was a pale grey for the majority of the book, with the end twist ramping things up a level but perhaps a little too late.
Jemima tries to make her way in acting but doesn't quite make it until she crosses paths with producer Rebecca Sheridan.
What at first seemed like a thriller turns into a light mystery that drags on for the whole book leaving only hints and it practically takes until the last quarter of the book for it to become relevant again.
It is more a story of what Jemima has to do to achieve the fame she craves and the competition between supposed colleagues and how other people take advantage of it.
It's certainly entertaining even though it's a slow burn novel but I wouldn't classify it as a thriller.
Jemima is an actor. She has never had a professional role, and works in a coffee van.
She is invited to cast for a play, the lead being a well known actress.
From the start, the play is doomed. Jemima has more talent than the lead in the play. And then things go wrong.
This book is described as a 'slow burn'.
Slow is dead right. The burn is missing.
The first 90-odd percent of the book is about Jemima doing what she can to find regular work and to be recognized for the talent she undoubtedly has.
Definitely not a thriller.
I kept waiting for something to happen.
2/5 stars. Sorry, cannot recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
Thank you Storm Publishing and NetGalley for an early copy of Someone Like You. I’m glad I finished the book, it was only OK, the characters were not my type of people but the plot was interesting. A few of the parts made me squirm with distaste. The ending was a shocker, even though I did not like how it played out. I found it to be a bit slow moving. I’m sorry.
This book is definitely a slow-burner. I felt disengaged at times but persevered. The pace was too slow for me and the ending was unsatisfactory due to it being crammed.
3.5 stars for Someone Like You by Becky Alexander! Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. This is a dark look into the cutthroat world of professional theater. From growing up poor to having difficulty making connections at a prestigious drama school, Jemima has so many cards stacked against her. Then a strange request for an audition changes it all, or does it? How far will Jemima go to achieve the fame she feels she deserves? While I liked the overall story, I feel like it needed to go all in on the twisted, dark theme. Perfect guilty pleasure weekend read!
Jemima Evans is ‘resting’. Despite attending numerous auditions, she is still to make a big break. Offers of readings are now becoming few and far between, and Jemima feels that her agent Elle is losing interest. However, when the offer of a casting with highly respected and extremely influential executive producer Rebecca Sheridan is up for grabs, Jemima is prepared to go to any lengths to prove she is perfect for the role.
This was very much a slow action book. It took a while to get going, then the ending was all of a rush.
Unpleasant characters throughout, with a fairly convoluted plot. The insights into ‘luvvie’ land were interesting and the lengths that the characters went to were very believable.
Not a totally unexpected denouement, it was always a case of who to trust! The shocking climax promised in the blurb never quite materialised.
An easy read, just needed the action to be more forthcoming.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm.
This book has a slow build to an interesting finish. The end wraps everything up very quickly and, because the protagonist is pretty unpleasant, it’s not a huge surprise to learn her role in events. There are some insights into the entertainment industry which may be of interest to some readers.
truly enjoyed reading Someone Like You. I think Becky Alexander has a gift for setting a stage, and I think she really captured the cut throat vibes of the acting world.
Jemima, our main character, has a rough past but seems to have finally made her break onto the acting scene. Basically every character she comes across along the way is insufferable, which isn’t surprising. She clings to her only contacts in the industry and follows them from London to New York City where things unravel.
This book is a slow burn. It’s not a thrilling page turner. The ending feels like it comes out of nowhere, and it makes me wonder if it would have been better to have multiple POVs in the story, so we could see the different sides.
All in all 3.5 stars. I loved the story and the way Alexander kept her reader engaged through the entire book.
Thanks to Storm publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
For some reason I was really fascinated by this right from the start! It doesn't start with any massive bang or anything frantic but there's just a sense of unease from the oust that kept growing the whole way through. You know something isn't right hut you just don't quite know what and it's that desire to find out that kept me invested. It is quite a slow burn, things are just slowly drip fed to the reader but the tension and suspense and build perfectly. I'm not sure I'd class it as a thriller as such but it was certainly an entertaining and captivating story
This book was just okay for me. It was dubbed as a suspenseful thriller but it wasn't that - it was a slow burn plot. Characters were unlikeable and the plot was meh.
Oooooh, this was a nice little slow burn....
You might think not much is happening but hang in there because these unlikeable people behave exactly the way you know they will and it gets gooooooooooood.
This is a story of unrelenting ambition, lies and greed and I absolutely recommend.
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy. It is my pleasure to write an honest review.
Jemima is on the cusp of her much-awaited breakthrough in acting, and her life is about to take a turn for the better. On a rainy afternoon and evening, I found myself engrossed in her story, reading it all in one session. This book stands apart from my usual reading choices, but I quickly became immersed in Jemima's world, losing track of time. This book is a suspenseful yet cozy thriller that surprisingly deviates from the expected, keeping its secrets well-guarded.
